Intro: Got some ides for the current maps in EvE, both regarding options and interface. Let me know if there is anything to these ideas, and about integration with the contemporary map solutions.
Star Map: lines The lines in the star map are nice, let-¦s you see which systems are connected. But with the great number of systems, and the function that show lines whenever you hover over something, it gets confusing. You have the option to show a constellation or region in the star map, but as soon as you touch anything else, the lines change. So the idea is to have lines that are fixed to a point-of-interest, a place you have clicked or asked to be shown. That way you don-¦t have to re-apply lines everytime you rotate the 3d map.
Star Map: selection As an in-depth option to the previous idea: To be able to select a point-of-interest and see it alone in a 3d map. I imagine most people tend to stay roughly at the same place for a period of time, and does not need to take in the entire know universe of EvE when consulting the maps. So to be able to see the region or constellation you are in, withouth the rest of the universe getting in the way, should be a relief. This does already exist, to some extent, with the option; "show in map browser." But the idea is to have it in 3d map, with access from the main Map directory.
Star Map: zoom To be able to zoom in (if combined with previous idea; then zoom in layer by layer) on a solar system map from the star map. With lines from the stargates that you can trace to the connecting system. This of course implies that you must be able to see the system maps of other than the one you currently reside in. Could be restricted with a limitation to available information depending on the distance to the system you want to explore. Much like the planetary interaction scanning system. This would be like a micro view of the star map.
Star Map: fade An option to fade away the systems that are a spesific distance away. So that again, you don-¦t have to consern yourself with the universe as a whole, but can concentrate on something more spesific; like sovereignity or waypoints.
Waypoints and Destinations: a detail Please make the glowing green dot only go one way, the way you-¦re going. Not back and forth, unless my waypoints do just so.
Conclution In general, I think the star map is too messy. It-¦s nice to see all the places, and how far New Eden stretches. But it is limited in practicality when you cannot narrow it down with more options. The interface in EvE let you gain access to information very easily, so I think it strange that the same does not follow information regarding places. Spesificly Regions and Constellations.
