titel says everything, is it doable solo in a raven?
any tips would be appreciated as well.

After never going for it in the past, I decided to give the bonus lvl on the Guristas Extravaganza a try. Its definetly doable in a Raven solo, shield tank for thermal and kinetic and you're all set.
HOWEVER - you may have to warp in and out 1 or 2 times. This is because you will probably be busy killing off the lvl 3 Sentry guns, posse of scrambler frigs and cruiser rats before you head for the big guys. Once the small rats are gone, you can take on the big guys - largest bounty rat was a 2.75M Dread Guristas rat in a Raven. Then there was another 2.5M one, 2.25M and a mix of lower bounty BS. All doable IF you keep your DISTANCE and pick them off one at a time. Make sure to pack plenty of torps too 
As for the rewards...  it was mainly a bunch of contraband, and of course the nice rat bounties. I'm certain that there's GOT to be something useful in the loot tables

A buddy of mine do them all the time, solo in his raven. However, he did lose an excessive amount of raven's before he got his tactics right.
He's recieved a Dread Gurista ballistic, Dread Gurista Webber and Dread gurista warp scrambler if I remember correctly, from that mission.

Bonus is easyly doable Solo, I never had to warp out.
Kill the sentries after warp, then imidietly get the webber/scrambler frigates (Eliminators). Kill the cruiser afterwards, then the battleships ... use the slow frigates that dont web to suck cap out of (2x NOS ?).
Last time I did it I got a Dreaddy 425mm Railgun =]

I go striaght for structure, pop it, pop the sentrys, pop the webbers/cruisers then work down the BSes

well i tried it but not alone
a freind in an arma and another in a prohecy came along with me, after seeing it i could have soloed it but its nice to have some company.
we found a Dread guristas Claocking device
1x ZW-4000 seige launcher.

how exactly do you get to this bonus section? I've done Serpentis Extravaganza 8 or 9 times and have never seen anything beyond the normal 3 stages. Is this something that is specific to Gurista or am I missing something?

No bonus level on the Serp version as far as I know. There's an extra warpgate on the Gurista version.

Gurista Extravaganza has 5 mission stages. When you warp to the 5th stage you arrive at an Acceleration Gate that looks like not activated. After completing this stage you can go through the bonus gate, get an information that it is not neccesary for completing. In Bonus stage you have 3 BS (1 2.5Mio Massacrer, 1 1.5Mio Dread Conquistator, 1 1Mio Conquistator), some 160k Cruiser (Crusher or so), some frigs and 2 Sentry II.
The mission is soloable in a Raven (i wouldn't say it's easy, but doable). Did it a few times, only once i got no dread gurista loot.

The safe way:
Move opposite direction from the rats. Do not lock anything. Just tank the sentries for now. When at max locking range for the sentries, take them out agroing the whole lot. When 3 salvos put in each sentry, start moving away and pick off the fastest moving ships at max locking range. Doing it this way you might not be hit even once for any others than the sentries.
The quick way:
Move opposite direction from the rats. Lock the sentries and the closest of the fast moving frigs immediately. Once locked, unleash on sentries, 3 salvos each then take out frigs and so forth, steadily moving away from rats all the time. you need some speed for this to work, preferrably 325+.
For the record: I've done this in my Cerberus, so a Raven should be no problem.

well i just attack and kill frigs and attack the weakest bs first to reduce dmg. it aint easy to tank but with my fit i do it rather easily with 2heat/2kin hards

I warp in take out the 2 sentry guns (15 torps each) while flying to the guristas storage facility, once they are gone I take out the frigs (3 torps each) and cruisers (9 torps each) first then bs last.
Sometimes there is good loot sometimes there is standard loot in the storage facility.
I suggest to always do it though :)

With the right set-up on this mission the only thing that runs out is ammo.
Including the bonus stage, it just the set-up and knowing which ships to hit first and, more importantly, what not to shoot.

I received this mission again and am happy to report the bonus stage was a walk in the park solo, only got a 350mm scout but meh it was fun. and the isk was good.

No need to kill the npcs (although there are nice bounties) - just kill the structure that drops the loot, bookmark the can, finish mission (so the NPCs dissapear) and then take a frig to pick up the can.

man ive done it solo like 4 times and the best loot ive gotten is a muon bcu  just use 2heat and 2 kin hards amp and xl sb and 2x heavy nos 5pdut2 and 6 siege

Finally did this extra level solo in my Raven, and let me tell you, I am SEVERELY disappointed. The last time I poked my inquisitive nose in here, sometime in the new year, I got it nearly bitten off. It was a tough extra level: so tough, that I remember warping out on ~20% hull.
Today, I strolled through it, after wiping out the five levels before it solo. Took me a while, I can tell you. CCP... please do not 'dumb down' all the really hard stuff in EVE. Why do you think we keep playing? So TomB can gank us all or something?

I always call for backup. Just makes sense to do so and means you get everything.
Ive had a Dread Guristas Large shield booster, ballistic control and explosive hardener, an XL CL-5 and a Pandemonium. All of which im trying to sell (I fly an Apoc :P)
