Yep, agreed... BP copying is it's own little micro-industry. We can't and shouldn't have that eliminated.
BUT... replying to something on the first page, I disagree about what's wrong with EVE's market. Being in-game since beta, 2002, I really haven't seen any overall inflation. In fact there's been deflation, and players ourselves, not the devs, have been partly responsible for that.
Undercutting = bad
Mineral prices sky rocketing? Go figure... we all started out mining like mad in EVE, it was about all we could do, and the best/easy moneymaker. Now there are many more things players can do to make money almost equally well. Hunting is infinitely more fun and challenging to most of us. Agent missions are quite productive too. Who wants to be bored out of their mind mining? Only the macro'ers with multi accounts that make a living off it & ebaying, live with 19 cats and never shower ;) (anyone remember my joke in local chat? heh)
Get more players mining, more mins on the market, and I guarantee that mineral prices will drop back down. For now, miners are just very much enjoying the perks of their trade, especially those that have specialized and have always stuck to doing it.
I know many would-be miners (yes boredom but...) have been turned off by getting ganked in high-sec systems while mining, when they should have been safe. A skilled enough player can get into even 1.0 space, rig their ship for insta-killing frigs & indies, and kill miners, then run from the cops for 15-20 minutes. This has become enough of a problem there are actually players who now patrol and risk Concord agression to counterattack those who kill miners in 1.0 - 0.5 "safe" space.
Anyways, NO, I also don't think agents pay out too much, maybe only very slightly too much. There has to be some incentive to do these missions. PLUS, the payout you get from agents increases in proportion to the agent "difficulty" and your rating with them, and also with skills you have to invest time training up.
I disagree with broker fees. Sales tax, eh, maybe. At least it encourages building up relations with certain corps/empires. Broker fees are just stupid. They DIScourage use of the market system in EVE rather than encourage it, plus it's buggy. One little slip of your finger or not getting that decimal point in there, and you've lost 100x the amount you expected in broker fees + 1 sale order that will never go through. You never get it back, poof, wasted. ANY kind of broker fee is always contingent on sale and assessed AFTER or UPON the sale of any commodity, NOT BEFORE. Plus, what kind of broker is managing supposedly, player orders in EVE? None... the player has to still do everything, including training various skills to allow modification, placing, etc of sell/buy orders at certain distances. It's contradictory and illogical, and shouldn't remain in-game. Why punish players for using the market? Bad idea, especially for higher cost items. To make up the cost of the stupid broker fee, sellers have to jack up their items even higher in cost. Vicious never ending cycle.
- Eliminate broker fees. - Get more players mining (but not a glut). - Talk to your fellow players & discourage undercutting and cheap sell-off of loot items (recycle!! The mins are probably worth more anyways) - TRAVEL, put items for sale in farther out systems, keeping in mind a slight cost gradient from empire centers.
