Originally by: Lygos It would probably be an odd sort of thing, but imagine you had 7 sellers and someone placed an order for 6 units. The first six sellers would each sell one unit. The seventh seller would have to be first in the que on the next round if it were to be fair. The initial ordering would probably have to take on the newest seller at the end.
Markets arent fair. Never have been, never will or should be. You have the same item at a lower price, people will buy from you. No que is needed.. it would open up exploitable system that I wont explain.
The real trouble with such an approach is that the database would have to keep track of the que, and the market is simply too big. Therefore, I think the idea is only really applicable to commodities in numbers that are at least a few powers of ten. The market 'works' in that it moves stuff around and gives you stuff fairly consistently, so I don't want to mess with or break that.
This makes no sense.. you dont want to change it, then whats all the above?
The other question is how do we add a second (or really third or fourth) market system to the game? We have the total clarity market that is fair to all buyers and we have player to player bartering. My point is not that we need an ingame auction system to replace the forums though. What I am interested in is what sort of effect the presence of any such a system would have on the existing market.
What effect it would have is to make people more confused.. you can have too many choices. Lean is good.
How do we make manufacturing more of a steady thing? Maybe we need to take another look at the means of production. Anything you buy, except charges and ammo, has infinite potential for returns. Hence, people might only need to buy one.. but noone pays like they only need one. Maybe we need more disposable items, or maybe we need more charges in items to assuage the problem. Most importantly, how do we conjure that pattern without asking for anything really sui generis to be coded? How do we use the existing materiel to get others to pursue what we need?
How do we "conjure that pattern" and "get others to pursue ehat we need?" .. sounds like you're wanting someone else to do your work for you. IMO, the markets work currently sufficient for the purpose they are intended for.
