Moved from EVE General Discussion to Out of Pod Experience - Jacques Archambault
Edited by: Gunsnroses on 10/04/2005 03:07:54 Edited by: Gunsnroses on 10/04/2005 03:02:43 Yes Yes I know, another post, i know we've got to many of these. But oh well :D
I just Wanted to say bye. I've cancelled both my accounts, This char, and my alt Gigaindy. Gigaindy has already expired, and this account has less then a week left.I may be back once the bugs are fixed and customer service is better, assuming these things ever happen.
A brief summary of my reasons to quit, if anyone is interested. Last sunday, I escrowed a chunk of minerals from my Character Gigaindy to my character Gunsnroses. The escrow appeared to go through, yet didnt. It never changed screens like it usualy does, back to the escrow basics. It sat there so i was able to hit submit again, which i did. My char was not able to claim them, while being in the top station of pimebeka, Which is where the escrowed minerals were. Could not see to claim, so i thought hmmm... Odd. Tried all the tricks i knew, never appeared. I then looked on Gigaindys escrow, under the "show escrow issued by me" None was to be found. I figured, ok... Bug. I sent petition in, and thought nothing more of it. Aprox 10mins later, i succesfully escrow 3 small lasers to gunsnroses, in same station.
30 mins later, I escrow a chunk of minerals, to a customer of mine. From the character Gunsnroses, same station in pimebeka as previous 2. Same thing happens, It doesnt appear to go through, The minerals, 5mil trit, 1mil pyerite, 300k or so mex. Worth aprox 25mil give or take. Is missing from my hangar, and is unclaimable.
Petition went slow as usual, but im being told there is no record of these ever exisiting, and im given the shaft. I understand there stance, noone else appears to have ever had this problem, so why would they think im not a scammer.
This isnt just money that is lieing around, its my livelyhood. I make money, by using my money on the market, buyng low, selling high, or buying minerals low, building, then selling high.
So im not only out 70mil, but im out my source of income as well.
As it seems, i will be going, I figure worst case senario i get a tan, Summer is finnaly here, so its not to bad.
I do hope that if anyone else has ever had this bug, they can post and let people know. I also suggest noone use escrow for any valueables until this is sorted.
Thanks all. Happy Fraggin ~Gunsnroses/Gigaindy ~Ceo of Gigacorp ~Proud member of Huzzah federation.

quitting over a bugged/bad escrow is a little rash dont you think? Eve has lots of potential. Instead of quitting over a bug give it a chance.
oh btw can i have your stuff? will accept escrows :)

Edited by: Gunsnroses on 10/04/2005 03:19:20 1/4 of your assets disapearing is one large bug. That would be as if you rich 1billion isk folk, just lost 250mil outa thing air. Or your richer 4billion isk folk, losing 1billion isk. Just gone, to a bug. Rash? I think not.
Its summer, just 30$ more to spend on beer i figure.

If i had 1bil and lost 250mil, i'd say "oh well i still got 750mil" :) Just escrow your stuff to me, then you can quit in peace :)

Mate, I had a TL2 bpo worth 3.5 billion vanish due to an escrow bug. So 70 mill is pretty damn small potatoes.
This story ends happily, however - when the escrow would have normally expired, the package appeared in my hangar, complete with the BPO again.

When i was active as a trader i did put up like 15 to 50 escrow missions a day. In a few months of doing that, i had the same happen to me maybe 2 or 3 times - so it is very rare. Once i lost a very valuable item and therefore tried to petition but with the same result as you had - denied. However after the escrow mission expired, i had a unexpected package in the station with the content of the escrow. You may still get your stuff back after the escrow timeout.
A even rarer bug was when a customer of mine seemed to have a collision of claiming a escrow together with somebody else. That happened only once in my whole eve time with all my chars and could be traced from logs after petitioning so it was replaced. Still it was funny to see it beeing possible...
ps : i assume you know some of the tricks to see "hidden" escrows like restricting your view to station and sorting by assignee. Esp. the first one can show more escrows - also hidden escrow offers (a nice advantage over other traders who dont know it) |

If you're saying you didn't get this back then I don't believe you - seeing how CCP can track EVERY SINGLE Tech II BPO (as they have unique IDs) ...

Quite frankly, I too am tired of the "we can't prove your not, so you must be a liar" stance of CCP. I'd prefer they refunded people who didn't deserve it, than didn't refund people who did. These kind of bugs make this game lame, and CCP's stance towards the issue makes it even more lame. Honestly, 70 mill isn't much to me, and if I lost it I probably wouldn't even bother to file the petition (basically, because I know what the response is, NO NO NO NO and we don't really give a **** about your loss, but here's a worthless statement of how sorry we are.) Give up on petitions...they don't do any good...CCP has the crappiest server logs possible, I think they prefer it that way. Easier to copy their template response and say "you're a liar, and you don't get your stuff back" than to say "oh, yeah, that's a bug, let me take the time to give you your stuff back".
Oh, and for anything else I've missed: rant, rant, rant...mkay?
--------------- I guarantee that my opinions are the complete opposite of those of my corp and alliance. Get over it. |

I strongly disagree with that at the current state of their "logs". IMHO there are enough ppl who would abuse that to replace serious losses and also to make a lot ISK by "scamming" CCP - that would lead to serious economic problems and would make the game even more a "CS-in-space".

That is the real problem for me - that their logs often seem to be useless. Now likely it is simply a resource problem that they cant log everything through the net on one of their servers, but technical problems are here to be solved and not ignored. I wouldnt mind dedicating another 20 or even 200 Megabyte locally on my machine for decent logdata which can be remote accessed by a GM/CCP employee to verify problems/bugs with eve.
Ofc. the problem is that locally stored data can be manipulated so you would need to seriously try to avoid that. Mechanisms like digitally signing the data with a "custom" version of MD5/Sha-1 or something equally and transfering the signature to a remote server from time to time, could mostly prevent the manipulation of local data. To overcome mechanisms like that you would need to seriously re-engineer and manipulate the eve client so it wouldnt be a easy/likely task. To add more safety to it, you could simply change your customized signature algorithm from time to time. The code itself should be implemented using the "usual" "anti-debugging/anti-*****ing" ways.
Or just make the code a tiny download fragment each time you connect with eve. That may be a security risk though :D
Anyhow - after (nearly?) 2 years after release, these problems should at least be traceable in logs instead of the "we cant see it" or a "yes we can see that you have a load of crash info and error logs stating internal eve problems at that time, but they could be faked so we ignore them" reply (small logs already exist localy).
One thing i learned through all my eve time - you can only rely on yourself. That includes not relying on CCPs mechanisms of petition/bug replacement Do not escrow something you seriously cant afford to lose and dont fly a ship with stuff on board you cant afford to lose. |
