Scanner probes
Over the last 5 days in Impass and Feyth fighting 'those who are not nice to xetic' (to avoid flames) i have been playing probe jockey and WOW it works. Friday night taking UB5 station vs an Ex SE corp i made their entire safespotted fleet log off and on a good 10 times as they say my 3 x 3au probes v close to them. Same in impass, as i write were camping a bunch of log off'ers in 68ft and yeah once again the MIGHTY SCAN PROBES makes them run for the log off button.
Comeone guys dont make me shame you in this forum, im now keeping a log of all log off people so that i can SHAME you utterly.
Yeah im sure you wise ass forum warriors will come up with your clever one liners to this but i says it like i sees it. Scan probes for the win. ULTIMATE WEAPON

why flame? cant we just all get along
The post is about scan probes. the point i want to make is that they maybe need to remove the ability to see them on scanner. Why does it always have to be about Xetic? you guys like really hate us (yet you dont know us, its a game and you have no rational reason to hate what is 'another group of people sat behind a PC screen when i bet the sun in shining')
Spread the love, its all fun but at the end of the day......its a game

I had once a scorp log off 3 (THREE) seconds before my probes finished their analysis. Talk about frustrating, heh
But true, people look for probes on scanner and move or log as soon as they see them, so probes are rather pointless. Even faster probes are so-so because people will keep moving if they see probes or make safespots out of grid or out the galactic plane so they can't be spotted.
Probes need improvement, give it time ;-)

At the risk of sounding daft, but how exactly do scan probes work? I mean, I can use the ship's built in scanner to tell me what's in the system, and with a little time, I can use it to give me the location (within 5 degrees) and distance of any ship/structure/asteroid. Are they launched in the same way as moon probes, but into random areas of space rather than at moons?

The jealousy people have of Xetic does get old.... FAST.
As for scanner probes, maybe they could be made so there is a skill at detecting them? So when you scan you have X% chance that they appear on your radar?

2 things to help scan probes:
Make em faster
They shouldnt show up on Scanner. People just move when they see em on radar.....which defeats the purpose of scan probes.
Less safe safe-spots for the win!.
No one ever runs. They just safespot. And log. Or move then log.

Edited by: Reite on 10/04/2005 17:59:24 Are you serious? No seriously, you must be kidding right?
Ive had some encounters with xetic the last days basicly it was about 6-7 battleships friendly to me vs a fleet of about 11-12 xetic battleships... Wanna know what happened? Xetic warped in and out and in and out and did never dare to engage us, it ended with us getting 1 BS kill before all of the xetics logged off :\
Edit: This was really only ment as a counter to your ridicolus thing about SHAMING US? How can you shame us when u dont dare to fight us with 3/5 numbers =)

The most powerful weapon in EVE is the "/ban player" command. There is no defense and it never misses, there is nothing you can do against it, short of real life intervention
The concept of scan probes is okay but they have been poorly implemented and way overnerfed in my opinion. You'll never catch a person at safe spot with them. Many times you won't even find what you are looking for.

to try and get this back on topic and away from the flames, yes scanprobes in the right hands are an extremely powerful tool, even more so after tmrw as the scan time will be greatly reduced. Overpowered? not at all. It takes 5 seconds to make a safe spot, it takes a lot longer to narrow and down and scan for that safe spot

The most powerful weapon in the game right now is a FRICK pilot named Farjung in a covert ops ship with scan probes.
The least powerful weapon in the game right now is the same pilot in any other frigate with guns. -

Is it just me or is there far too much talk of logging on and off?
Forget how useful probes are and speed they work the fact player are happy to just jump out of game to avoid the conciquences of anothers actions.
Don't know about anyone else but I log on and stay logged on until I go to bed or have to log off and stay off. If I get caught due to my own stupidity then I take the conciquences and remain logged in, if I am camped in a system I stay logged while I try and escape. If I attack something I am always in local and not hidden off game waiting for a wordto log back on.
Maybe my stupid honour gets in the way of winning at all costs but I would rather use the ingame tools given to try and achieve my objectives than some lame arse log off and on to gain an advantage.
Anyway sorry for semi off topic comments....

Fact of the matter is ships shouldnt dissapear as in magic when someone logs off, the ships should remain in space where the person logged off.
you want to be safe? log off in a station. this logging in space has got to be dealt with a spaceship should be able to be found if it is not cloaked whether the person is logged in or not.

Worst idea ever tbh. Maybe if you're a sad git with no life who mistakes Eve for Real Life this would be a good idea. If like the rest of us you occasionally need to log out in the middle of a 20 jump trip between stations in 0.0, this would be the cause of many cancelled subscriptions. Theres no way I'd carry on playing if I could lose my BS while offline.

Simpler solution: ships try to warp away, and then after 1-2minutes tries to cloak, when logging off (as if the ship had a Cov Ops Cloak). If the ship manages to cloak, the server can magic it away to save the Niyabainen node. Only case these standard "Covert Ops" cloaking rules would be suspended would be for NPCs - I bet there are a lot of players legitimatly lagging out in middle of NPC spawns. --

Pyrex, I really liked your story. I hope you continue to improve your search and destroy skills. It's too bad your enemies had to log off. I feel that breaks the immersion of the game. Ships shouldn't be able to just disapear. Keep it up

Has anyone noticed an improvement with the probes post patch?
I am stuck in the star system of London at work for the week and cannot find a suitable jump gate other than Paddington to Esa gate.
Let me know if people are happy with the changes to the probes and if they are more useful
Also can someone (sorry to talk techincal now) tell me if the problem with the planetary plane is sorted?
