Quote: Tho i have like soooooo many questions now to be honest :| I was doing missions and trading (atleast here im pretty good) lol and only now i understand how much i was missing :D Judging by your 2009 join date and the monocle you wear your income doesn't seem to be the problem. Trading is and will always be the best profession, if you want to hoard ISK.
Quote: Researching ... i can do this with alts right ? it doesnt need to be my main , i can get the bpo's somewhere safe in low sec , then get an alt there , research the hell out of them = profits ? seems kinda simple and easy using 2 skilles character for such ehm a big deal , or i am missing something ? I don't think there's a profession that is more suited for doing it on alts than research.
In other news, i switched to a different template for my blog. I am probably going to change a few things here and there, but i kinda like how it looks right now. Also, it should be easier to read than before. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

I love you for this guide Beckie :) "That's okay it annoys me when people pile on new definitions to the word sandbox every time CCP does something they don't like." - Alara IonStorm GD is where 60% of threads make you dumber and 10% which provide you with entertainment, the remaining 30% is a mix of both. |

Beckie DeLey wrote:Another week gone, another update done: How to get your BlueprintsQuote:Before you can start throwing minerals at your manufacturing lines, waiting for them to spew finished product at you, you will need to acquire blueprints. Blueprints determine how costeffective you are at what you are doing and how much time you spend on a given manufacturing job. Blueprints bought from the market are hardly fit for mass production, as you will need way more materials and also time to produce what someone else, your competitor, could produce in less time for lower costs. So, we will want to use researched Blueprints, but how do we get them? Do you want to know more?
Two things you may want to add. There is an ingame chat channel for blueprints that occasionnally has good deals on blueprints or where you can ask if anyone is selling a particular researched bpo or bpc. Also the website games.chruker.dk/eve_online has a lot of resources and for blueprints you can look up any blueprint and it will tell you the optimal amount for ME and how long it would take to research it. |

Good point. I will add something about the ingame channel.
I want to make a collection of notable 3rd party tools and calculators along the way. Chruker's site is great and will absolutely be mentioned. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

Beckie DeLey wrote: Thanks. I know that a lot of what i write is fairly basic stuff, but one of my goals is filtering the basics out and making new guys aware of them instead of swamping them with every detail. Yes, i'll absolutely continue updating. I am aiming for more than one update per week, but sometimes RL gets in the way. Other times, i update twice on a weekend *shrug*
Just wanted to add my appreciation and encouragement Beckie...
I am going to switch one of my characters over to a full time industry/trading focus and I believe your guide, along with other forum threads, will help me be successful. I have dabbled in industry a bit, but only when I have found short term opportunity - such as cheap BPC, cheap minerals, and rising end product prices.
My biggest concern at the moment is location selection - and the lack of standings with 'my' trade hub owner...
PS - your writing is fine; don't worry about the grammar, etc.

Yeah, standings are a *****. Mission running is in order, probably blitzing L3s. You can also buy some standing with tags... hm, might be another topic to write about (EDIT: Heh, it's on the roadmap already.)
In other news, new update: How to get your minerals
Quote:Everyone can manufacture things and sell them. Many do and some of them even turn over a profit while doing that. To increase our profit margin, we either need to sell our stuff for more ISK or we can just make sure that we only spend on minerals what we absolutely have to. There are many ways to get minerals and depending on which one we use, our investment of ISK might just change considerably. And with it, our profit margin. Likely, we are going to use a wild mixture of several of the available ways to fill our ressource hangar. LetGÇÖs look at the options we have. I just wanted to say I appreciate what you are putting together. Myself and a few other folks have just started playing and I found the information you provide very useful! Since I am looking for any info regarding POS's I am looking forward to your "uses of POS's" section you have. Thanks again! |

This is great stuff. As some of you have figured out, I'm the uber-est of n00bs in manufacture/indy side of Eve. I'm getting a lot out of this.
Thanks again. |

First off, I appreciate the work you put into this. Very interesting read and I learned a lot. I have been thinking of getting into trading/industry for awhile now and have saved up about 3lbn ISK, and I have all T1 frigate BPOs, none of which are researched. Just nervous about dumping a bunch of money on something I am obviously not proficient enough in, yet. Looking for a group of people I could tag along with, learn the ropes.
The more I read, the more I start to see myself enjoying this aspect of the game. If anyone is free in game to work on some stuff, shoot me a mail. Thanks again Beckie! |

New Update: Synergy Path: Mining
Quote:SoGǪ Mining! ItGÇÖs certainly a topic that divides the masses. Today i am going to take a closer look at this profession. After a quick recap of what i said about mining in my overview over the three (dot five) synergy paths, i am going to talk about what kind of player might be attracted to the life of a mining manufacturer, both good and bad. Also, i will go over the relevant skills and how much time we should sink into them. What i wonGÇÖt do is go much into the details of the actual mining activity. I am not a miner myself and there are plenty of mining guides around. Thanks. But please, don't expect too much from me on the topic of POSes. I can speak only in very general terms about them. While i read plenty about it and used one from someone else for a while, i never built one myself or know much about how to layout one. Hey, long time, no see. Yeah, i know. It's all going quite a bit slower than i wanted to. So i decided to split the update i was working on into two parts. Here's the first, who knows when i get to finalize the second...
Anyways, new Update: Spreadsheets in Space pt1: Numbers and what they tell us
Quote:EVE Online got a lot of fan nicknames over itGÇÖs years. GÇ£Internet SpaceshipsGÇ¥ and GÇ£EVE: A Terrible GameGÇ¥ are two of the more popular. However, the one thatGÇÖs referring to the kind of things that manufacturers and traders do in the game is GÇ£Spreadsheets in SpaceGÇ¥. And for good reason: the market dynamics and the dependancies between various products are complex enough that a serious market player canGÇÖt live without some out-of-game resource trying to present the information in a filtered and sorted manner. There are a variety of third-party programs out there, developed by other players. Those are excellent for the players who are just dabbling into industry or doing it on an alt, they can get the most important information delivered to them without having to care about the inner workings. If thatGÇÖs enough for you, go ahead and download ISKperhour or any other program of its kind and be done with it. For anyone who actively wants to understand whatGÇÖs going on, there isnGÇÖt an alternative to making your own Excel spreadsheet though. HereGÇÖs a rundown on what i added to my own spreadsheet, why i did it and what numbers are important. Part 2 will deal with the actual spreadsheet, how i built it and i will probably give you a template to work with for those of you who donGÇÖt know their way around Excel that well. [Do you want to know more?] So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

Here's some flamebait! It's the spreadsheet i use to manage my manufacturing.
New Update: Spreadsheets in Space pt2: An example
Quote:In my last update to my Industry Guide, i went over the things that i view as essential parts of a spreadsheet that is meant to help with evaluating the profitability of potential things to produce. Sadly, i lacked the time to discuss my own spreadsheet. What i got for you today is a cleaned up copy of what i use, some explainations of whatGÇÖs going on there and some more words on why i did what i did GÇô and more importantly, why i didnGÇÖt do more. This is only interesting to those of you who even want to customize something for their own preferences. Most industrial characters that only want to generate some passive income for their main will be better off just going by available third party programs like ISK/hour and DedafGÇÖs Industrial Tools. Compared to what they offer, my solution is laughably low-tech. However, going through the motions yourself will help you not only finding an answer to the GÇ£What?GÇ¥, but also to the GÇ£Why?GÇ¥ LetGÇÖs dive in. [Do you want to know more?]
Please tell me if the download works. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

your mining guide: electronics IV is missing. as a new character you'll want to spend the 17 or so hours i think its, in order to have enough CPU to fit 3x mlu IIs to a retriever along with t2 strips. (the alternative is mining upgrades V but let's not be silly). you won't have enough CPU for a survey scanner but who cares. not to mention as useless as the venture is, it's going to be a prereq for mining barges, you'll need mining frig at III according to the latest devblog. generally, i would also throw in the point that if you're a solo player flying exhumers, rank V of exhumers isn't worth it on a mackinaw. 1% more yield for that length of training? finally, 3% mining implant is always worth getting. very cheap, very quick to train for.
just some things for you to think about when you cover the topic again due to the impending changes. |
