David Braben is having a look at refreshing the Elite game.
Should CCP use this model, or even present different WiS proposals to EVE players to see which we'd prefer to invest in? I'd happily pay a bit up front to have something named after me etc.

I don't see why they couldn't port some of the code used for DUST to create WIS, discarding all the current code. Maybe it could even be a shared environment between DUST (without their weapons) and EVE players. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTzA_xesrL8 |

I'd be willing to donate to get stuff named after me. PLEX for system rename anyone? 10 PLEX, and you get a 0.0 or wormhole system named after your character. Though I'd want options as to what department the money goes to. |

this would only work as separate game experience. You cant take the money from eve subscribers, so you have to reach other people via kickstarter.

That is much, much, much, much, much harder than it sounds for a variety of reasons of which the most important one is DUST and Eve use 2 different engines and, suffice to say, we could literally talk game engines all day and still barely scratch the surface.
Also, I believe the plan is to eventually allow Eve and Dust players to share the same environment sometime down the road.

The thing is that CCP has absolutely no excuse at all for asking for Kickstarter donations and they would be mercilessly mocked by the entire internet if they did so.
Kickstarter is for indie developers who need startup cash, not proper companies who already have one very popular subscription MMO and are working on their second (and third?) games.

I would if it was developed and released as a separate game like DUST. Make it something similar to Second Life so that when Capsuleers do get to use it, the station will be filled with roleplayers, cyberwhores and peasants too poor to afford spaceships. |

That could work. Let anyone download the station environment and get to look outside the windows of everyone flying around in spaceships, or watch tv of dust wars from the CNN of eve, Scope. Let them mop floors for 8 isk a hour. Run into instances of CQs to collect capsular trash and make beds in epic dungeons. |

Its all about developer time. To get more WIS content you're going to need artists, animators, content developers, coders, QA'rs, etc. They aren't going to pull people off the internet spaceship game to do WIS for a LONG time. This would leave you with an enormous kickstarter requirement to actually hire a whole new dev team.

WIS could be reserved for those that choose to utilize it as well as anyone with a negative wallet balance, then all that remains is to remove CONCORD and institute a fine system rather than CONCORD instapopping you. I agree with the following assessment of the Mining Barge Buff and as a reformed "Greed-fit", High-sec AFK miner, I think that is saying something. -áMining Barge buff: CCP has acknowledged that miners in general are too stupid to make the correct fitting choices to make ganking them unprofitable. |

While Kickstarter idea (crowdfunding) seems to be inappropriate for successful company such as CCP - idea of "PLEX voting" seems to be ok. I.e. CCP could set up list of goals which could be boosted and assign certain value of PLEXes to each of them to be in priority (for example "common station halls in 3 months = 5000 PLEXes"). Although it may be seen as bad precedent for the company extorting additional resources out of subscribers it could clearly indicate players' interests and priorities to certain branches of development - unlike not-so-clear non-stop forum whining and silent exodus after nerfs and content-less "expansions". |

Hell, I would pay a little extra to get WiS off the ground.
It would leave a bad taste in my mouth though, because frankly I am already paying them pretty regularly. In fact I have been paying them for four years on two accounts, with the hope that they're spending some of that on developing WiS. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

Axtually, I'd appeciate that as long bas CCP doesn't deduct any ressoruces outside the Kickstarter money to it.
An option to pay CCP for scrapping WiS may be more lucrative though, at least from me... |

It should be free to play so explayers can log in as WIS'ers and talk to old corp mates and what not. That'd hopefully pull more people back in. |

I like it, let the people who want walking in Stations pay for it. All they need to do is "borrow some code" design station environments and they are done. < Just imagine it without the gun or monsters.
If their is anything left over from this high quality station design they can use that money to redesign the Moa, Imicus and Celestis. |

I've suggested this before. I think it is a great idea if only just to show how little people would actually pay for WIS. Or if there is enough support then that is great.
I don't see anywhere where it says you have to be Indie to use kickstarter or why anyone would care if someone random game company laughed at CCP.
It's really simple business here: Will the increase in subs/plexs redeemed be enough to justify the expense of adding in more WIS. Kickstarter will answer this. |
