First off I'd just like to say how much i'm enjoying EVE at the moment. I've only been playing a week mind you! i tried it a long time ago but was younger and a lot more impatient and couldn't stick with it. But this time round I'm prepared to put the time and effort in, and it already feels like it's paying off.
Apologies if this is the wrong channel. I had a look through the other channels and this seemed like the best option since i'm a newbie.
My first question is pretty general and has probably been asked before; where do I go from here? I have finished the tutorial agents and the Sisters of EVE epic arc, and am currently flying a Thorax cruiser trying to learn drone related skills. I really want to get involved with some PvP (I am aware this will cost me but I have sold a few plex due to friends signing up, so money isn't that much of an issue) but every time I ask about it on the rookie channel People all say the same thing; 'Don't do it, you'll get your arse handed to you'. Which I'm sure is true but in order to learn you have to fail a bit surely? Is it just a matter of joining a corp and learning from there?
My second question is the effect of implants. I'm currently trained to level 2 in cybernetics. If I were to get all the tier 2 implants which raise the 5 base attributes by 2 each would I see a significant decrease in training times? What other benefits would this bring?
Thanks for reading all, and a bigger thank you if you reply :)

There are several corporations or alliances that are out there that will train new players in the art of PVP. Red vs Blue and EVE University are two of the largest and best known, but by no means are the only ones. You can probably look around and as long as you are eager and not loss adverse, people will be willing to help you shoot stuff. CCP Eterne | Community Representative

Rule 1 of PvP: Expect to lose, a lot!
PvP is not about win loss ratio, it's about having fun and learning. People who say "dont do it" are people who are scared to loose so go for it!
I teamed up with someone after a week and we flew down a low-null tunnel and killed a couple of people and got killed a hell of a lot more!!! Gang up with someone and enjoy! Eagles of Essence is recruiting mission runners in Gallente Hi-Sec Join EaglesRecruits to find out more and get to know us! |

Welcome to EVE.
As for PvP: In my opinion the only way to learn it is by just doing it. Sure you will get blown up a lot of times at the start, but learn from every loss and eventually you might not loose ships as much.
The best way to get better in PvP beside doing it, join a corporation that is doing PvP and is willing to teach you how to PvP. Tip: Even though you have enough ISK to support you now, get a solid flow of income started. 500mil disappears quite quickly when learning PvP etc and having not income to back it up.
Last point, drones as primairy source of damage are hardly used in PvP cause of the type of damage they do (delayed damage due to travel time, low DPS, can be forgotten/shot down) so best would be to also cross train into one of the more primairy weapon types (hybrids, Projectiles, lasers or missiles - where hybrids are most likely as you are a Gallente pilot).
As for implants, on a single skill you with +2 implants you won't see a huge decrease in training time. But on long term skill plans you will notice a decrease in training time.
I suggest to download EVEMON or EVEHQ to plan your skills and you can also see what time reduction you get with implants, just keep in mind while doing PvP, don't use +5 implants (or anything really expansive) cause if you get podded (and you will at one point) you will loose them. Personally the biggest learning implants I use in my PvP clone are +3's cause they do help in training yet don't cost a fortune to replace.

Bolded and underlined the most important part of both PvP and in general EVE.
EVE is a game. This means you should play it to have fun, if you ain't having fun you are playing EVE wrong. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Screw the guys in rookie channel.
The most important is ofcourse to have fun. Most often people find fun by achieving something, hence you have to find pvp with a goal.
Your best bet is: Joining faction war, finding low sec pirates, joining a WH corporation or a null alliance. Some of those have requirements in order to be accepted but others don't. Find those that a nice people and want to play with you.
What ever you do get out of Hi sec. Staying there for too long is the single best step to never explore what eve has to offer.
Any one with an attitude of I wanna kill stuff is most often welcomed by any one reasonable. |

You have a few friends signed up so form a gang :)
For PVP, 3 or 4 of you in Atron/Slasher/Executioner/Condors can wreak havoc. Yes you will lose a lot but learn a lot also. They cost about half a mil each so you can just buy and fit 20. You will get kills and most likely you will kill things many times more expensive than your entire fleet, and people who have been playing for many years. In EVE, teamwork is much more valuable than anything else.
For PVE, a gang of newbies in cruisers can have great fun and make (relatively) loads of money doing level 3 missions. Just pick a corp you like the sound of, and find an agent. If your mates aren't around then you should probably stick to level 2's for now.
The effect of implants will depend on your attributes. If for example you have perception 20, then adding a +2 implant will make training skills based on perception approx 10% faster (it's a bit more complicated than that cause of secondary attributes but it's roughly right). If you're planning to PVP though, you might want to look into jump clones, so you don't lose your implants :) |

Good solid advice, though I won't agree with the leave high-sec ASAP.
That totally depends on player interest, people saying that null-sec is everything are saying that cause THEY find null-sec the best.
I've been in both high-sec and null-sec for a good time, and I will give you my opinion:
Both have their positive and negative parts.
High-sec can be very boring and safe. Null-sec can make you good ISK, is more thrilling but SOV comes with the price of Blob warfare, boring structure shooting and lots and lots of diplomatic bullshit.
Currently back in high-sec cause RL is busy, but I won't be joining SOV null-sec anytime soon cause of the things listed above. What I rather would do (and friends of my are doing just that) is live out of high-sec/low-sec and just roam into null-sec and shoot who ever you like. Wow! I was told the EVE community was really helpful and it really is true
Thank you all so much for the advice. I think I'm going to hang around in high-sec for a week or so more (train up, get my crap together and maybe even try a little mining for cash flow) and then try and find a corp willing to take on a newbie such as myself.
Low-sec sounds pretty daunting to me at the moment, but you're all right, I need to get out there and get blown up a bit to improve.
Thanks again! If i see any of you in game i'll be sure to say hi

The next step is quite easy, and you'll learn to pvp.
The next step list
1. Warp to a random belt.
2. If there is a miner go to to step 3 otherwise go to step 1.
3. CTRL+LEFT MOUSEBUTTAN on the miner in the overview.
4. Press F1, F2, F3 remember to confirm the dialog.
4. ???
5. Profit "Hot pilots we have problems too, we're just like you." |

Ooh and most importantly:
If you see anybody talk that has Goonswarm Federation as their alliance, DO NOT listen to them. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Goonswarm Federation have helped more new players into this game than most alliances in EVE Online, EVE-U may be the only alliance that have helped more players if there's a comparison made.

Goons also scammed more new players then anybody else and scared away more new players then. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station.
