Courier missions have such poor rewards compared to their kill mission counterparts it's like going from one agent level to a higher one. Why though? Courier missions take time, often more time than a kill mission, and time is the most important thing of all. Just ask the creator of the skill system about time.
Comparing kill missions to courier missions, kill missions generally have:
- more monetary reward - more Loyalty points - more standings increase - bounties from rats - loot from rats (sometimes uber rare stuff that you can sell for millions) - more fun!
Courier missions have nothing going for them except they're easier. Well so what? Risk vs. Reward? Yeah tell that to the skill system. Everyone goes at the same snail-crawling pace learning gunnery skills no matter if your risking your ass everyday fighting pirates or sitting at an asteroid belt mining Veldspar.
This agent system caters too much to the fighter pilots. :(

My level 4 courier agent used to give me more lps and reward then my kill agent. The lack of bounties and the time required how ever dont really make em worth doing. ---------------------------

Really? Well that's hopeful then...
As of now I'm comparing two Level 3 Quality 18 agents. Recorded only 15/26 missions for them so far but the average loyalty points per agent so far is:
kill agent - 392 courier agent - 197
of course it's not perfect because there's a standings diff. of about 3 pts and the kill agent has given 3 or 4 lousy courier missions

I thought you got less because you could pretty much do them AFK, where as with kill missions you actually have to do something.
Granted you get alot of items needed for offers as rewards from the courier agents that you wont get from a kill agent.
You also need alot more skill to do a level 4 agent mission than a level 4 courier.
And to resopnd to your comment about gunnery, thats false. There are alot of people outh there that do strictly manufacturing/research/hauling. The courier agent gives them something to do.

I can do most kill missions semi-AFK as well. Maximize EVE, click Keep at Distance, activate guns. Minimize EVE. Few minutes later, repeat process for next rat. Granted, some kill missions really do make you work, the others I do while browsing forums or reading a magazine.
With courier missions, you can be totally AFK... if you're in empire space and don't care if you waste hours by not using insta bookmarks or at least clicking 'Activate Microwarp/Afterburner' every 2 minutes...

Yeah, skills in gunnery/missiles... what about us who want to focus on manufacturing/research/mining ? We get the shaft and that is that? And from all the buzz around the forums it does not seem you need much skills to do level 4 missions. I'm working on it, but seems like torps and Raven plus some engineering skills in lvl 4 is all I need. Should take 4 weeks. Maybe I'll have to decline a select few of the notably tough ones.

Level 4 kill missions semi AFK yeah right, you obviously have not done them.
As for the rewards/offers of things like race specific planetary vehicles, high tech tools, etc.
Regarding skills, if you have only trained 4 weeks in gunnery/ships/engineering you will get a quick insurance payout more often than not. As for the buzz, its the same people saying the same thing even though they haven't even tried the L4 kill missions or don't actually solo them (using an alt or having a buddy means you are not alone). Once they do, miracously they shut up. BTW I am for groups doing the missions, and don't do them in secure space.
The game is about choices and specialization. You want to be a hauler/trader, etc fine. You get some missions too but its hard to make them equal when one type is MUCH easier, requires less skill and less isk investment. A fitted hauler costs 5M with decent gear (a frig 60k) vs a stock fitted raven at 120M.

Well I checked with my lvl 4 manufacturing agent for the first time simce patch and got a "various deliveries" mission. The reward was something around 1.6M + 1.9M + 5600 LP. And I have 6 hours to do it for bonus. So its not too bad in my opinion. But you have a point in that kill missions give bounty aswell. Xerxes

Yeah you found the one mission that offers a great reward for courier, in fact I'd say the reward is TOO high. For every one of those missions you get, you do like 20 worthless ones... though I've been doing over 30 now since the last time I got that mission =\

Nah i would say the rewards are better after the patch. Before I would get something like 2.5M + 4000LP in reward for the same mission. And believe me well paid missions came quite often before, so now its even better :) Xerxes

She's in a 0.6 system and has 18 in quality. I think my EQ is above 40 something. Xerxes

I don't know what kind of hauler you use for 160k cargo, but i prefer a Iteron V with local hull CE, which is also worth over 100M ISK, and which can be easily destroyed, when you compare it with a Raven.....

I remember seeing some devreply on issues like this a bit back where they said that couriermissions have much less rewards since they have much less risk then kill missions. He eventually wanted to add more variety and possibly risk to them thus making them more fun/challenging and motivate higher payment but that was quite a bit down the line as they're busy with other parts of the agent system. ------------------------- "Real Men Hull Tank" CCP Hammer |
