Now that i have 14km optimal on my med pulse II's instead of 20km with radio.. and 5km with multi I figured i better make my tank a bit better since everything can shoot me from 14km..
Ive run into a small problem though Im trying to figure out what is better
Having 1 thermal hardner, and 2 small tech 2 reps, and running the 2nd rep only 1/3 of the time
Or, Having no hardners, and 2 small tech 2 reps that can run forever...
for either of these setups ive also had to take off my afterburner

I have tried various permutations on the ret and to be honest I always end up going back to a fairly standard: H - 4 x medium pulse II, M - 1 x 1mn ab II, L - 1 x small armour rep II, 1 x thermal hardener, 1 x heatsink II and 2 x cap power relays.
It's a pretty standard setup but it works and it works well, even after the pulse nerf it works a treat. The Crusader has been hit much harder than the ret by this last nerf, mainly due to the way the ship is used but I won't go into that here.

Dunno what im gonna do with the retribution i have as well. I was considering dual light beams as an alterntative, but that gives up alot of damage by comparison. I still cant shake the idea that the ship wont survive against a dedicated close range ship without a web + speed module though, considering the new range while fitting multi frequency. Ships like the vengence or stock punisher however, ill prolly end up fitting rails or howitzers on them.

Actually the effect of the range reduction on the pulses isn't as bad on the retribution as you might think, because with assualt ships 4 which is what I have you get a 40% range bonus anyway so you still outrange what the guns could do pre-patch on a ship other than the ret or vengeance by virtue of that. I've found it annyoing on the crusader as I find myself either within web range with radios using dual light pulse II's or virtually in blaster range using MF's, but the retribution works fine still, optimal with MF crystals and medium pulse IIs on the ret/vengeance is down to a little over 5km so not too bad, not blaster range anyway.

Edited by: LUKEC on 14/04/2005 12:24:07 pulses now generally suck, except on one ship... battleship...
good work ccp... really good work...
i think of putting mapc & medium beams, but then everything is problem, cpu, pg, dot(you need webby for beams... which means no disruptor), etc...

Yea Medium Beam (II)s need their grid reduced. By quite alot.
But as usual, the easy changes seem to take CCP 9 months, and the hard ones just get a 'SoonÖ'.

Do you have any idea how much resources they use? 21 cpu 18 powergrid
to fit all 4, you need 72 power grid, you gert base 70 with skills
that means you need a mapc to fit even just those... they cripple the defense of the ship... though 30km optimal is nice

And exactly how many frigs can fit all best long range guns without MAPCs? ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I dont fly amarr frigs, but Im curious here, I can fit 4 280's on a wolf, but i have no room for anything else, if u fit 4 of the best beams u have to use a mapc to fit them? Same story w/ my enyo (cept 150's), if thats the case, they prob could do w/ a slight grid reduction
there are you happy now, my sig fits every rule. Now, no delete me pls, I promise to be good!!!11010101!! |

Medium Beam IIs use 18 grid each. Retribution with Engineering V has 70 grid.
4 * 18 = 72
So you've fitted nothing but guns and are already short. Oh and for the people who are going to point out that you have plenty of lowslots for a MAPC: Give me another medslot and that excuse would be viable.

Even the Amarr Assault frig, largest PG of the all the Amarr frigs, can't fit the beams with maxxed skills. Now where does that leave the poor interceptors, the tech 1 frigs, and the Destroyer?
S.O.L. - that's about where. So now if you fit short range weapons (pulses) you have to use a webber becuase of tracking problems, but then you can't AB/MWD to get in range....but that doesnt really matter because you can't scramble them anyway. No other AF has to make this kind of sacrifice.
Oh yea, Beams CPU is also 30% higher than 280mm II's as well. In one final bout of oddness, pulse fitting requirements are almost exactly the same as 280mm II's.
All this is why beams (and consequently small Amarr frigates) need some love/tweakage.

I have to recover my Crusader from bad country and refit it. I can fit 8 named Dual light beams plus armour on a Coercer easy enough (armour rivals base lvl of an Omen). Looks like my Inties are going to need a rethink though.
Least the Maledictions got 2 Launcher slots, so it aint hit as bad.
