- I would increase the armor HP of ships by about factor 5. - I would combine passive resistance plating and HP plating into one item, for example: 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Reflective Plating 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Reactive Plating 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Adaptive Nano Plating And so on. - I would multiply the HP on the plates by 5 too. - I would introduce a tech 2 version of the different plates with 25% resist and 12500 HP after the multiplication (So they would be like 2500 HP in the current system). - I would remove the Cap-hit from MWDs and add a -100% ROF penulty to every weapon when activated. (Basicly you can't shoot while having it active)
Yea, that would about fix the ganking problem, balance short and long range setups better and make space combat a lot more interesting.

Well, yea, shield expanders and resistance emitters would be combined into one item too.
But I would not increase shield HP significantly because that would result in either unrealistically high regeneration, or regeneration becoming irrelevant because it would take ages to regenerate the entire shield. I would want the natural regeneration on shields to be more of a factor, with the improved expanders it would be easier to maintain a high regeneration factor.
Armor repairers would have reduced efficiency. I would increase their cycle times to about 30 seconds to discourage active armor tanking, and instead make armor and shield truely different.
Repairing shields would be extremly fast and possible during combat without problems, also it will regenerate during combat. However, shields still leak dmage and have low HP. Armor on the other hand is slow to repair, hard to maintain during combat, but extremly high in HP.

Originally by: Vegeta Good job at creating a game where EVERYONE has the same setup! To tell you the truth that has to be the most short-sighted post I have ever seen. A plate with 25% to one resistance and +12.5k armor hp? And I can fit 8 of those on my armageddon?!?
How exactly would that make space combat more interesting? It would take about 40 minutes to kill each ship, since everyone would be flying armageddons with 75% resistance and be able to MWD away from you without any loss?
It seems you only want to your specialized things better, you didn't even mention the shield penalty on the MWD or a change to shield extenders. All you said was that we should worry about not making shield recharge too good!
- It takes 30 seconds to kill a battleship now. - If you fit 8 armor plates you won't have any repairers, harders, hull mods, damage mods or range mods. Bad idea. - Why would everyone be able to MWD away? Where would they MWD to? - I did mention shield extenders in my other post. - MWDs don't have a shield penulty anymore. - I don't really take DBZ kids seriously anyways. I would own you in a fight because you would have to spend 3 hours making loud grunting noises before you're ready to atack.
Well, ok, I'll give you this, multiplying everything by 5 is probaply too much. Maybe x2 would also do the trick...

If you just use whatever is overpowered at the moment and enjoy yourself doing it... yea. Heck, we all know the vast majority of all players are so simple minded that they tick exactly that way, doesn't mean a game is good though.

Edited by: Noriath on 17/04/2005 15:46:18 Well said.
A lot of the problems from Eve come from the lack of choices that will lead you to the best outcome.
It starts with ship and module balancing because there its easily visible: An Apoc is better then a Dominix, so if I make my choice on preference rather then merit I might end up with a weaker ship just because I like drones more then I like lasers.
Same is true for complex mechanics though. Running missions vs. trading or manufacturing. Passive gameplay vs. Agressive demeanor. Highsec vs. Lowsec.
There is just never a balance between the two that allows people to choose on preference alone.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say that if I like to run level 1 missions I should make the same money as someone who runs a megacorp that mines lowsec, or that if I like to fly my noobship I should still be able to kill a battleship. Clearly there still have to be different levels of gameplay and a certain mobility between them, but inside of these levels it should be how well I do at something I like rather then what I do that determines my overall success most.

Edited by: Noriath on 18/04/2005 03:21:26 Tanking is not even worth the while right now and everyone knows it. Ships need a lot more HP so that ganking setups won't continue to dominate every aspect of PvP, just because it doesn't at all matter how well you're tanked when you can't run your repairers more then twice before you get blown up... x5 is too much, given, but still a change is needed to make it more worth the while.

Uh hold on, I edited my post to say something completly different to confuse you.
Ahh well, anyways, this is becoming a flamewar that really doesn't help anyone, I already said that the numbers in my initial post where too high to be a reasonable change...

So what if you increase the ship HP significantly? Then a 1600 plate is even smaller of an improvement over what you have and even less worth the while.
I mean why is it that fitting a 1600 plate into a cruiser considered a good move by many, but fitting one in a battleship is not even considered for most setups. I would say it's because in a cruiser 1600 extra HP makes a world of difference, in a battleship the improvement is too marginal to waste a slot.

I think both have to be looked into simultaniously, there are just too many armor-type mods that are not very useful right now. (same goes for shield) Also if only ship HP goes up guess who benefits the most - ships that don't use tanking setups. Namely gankships
