So... I should turn my sound back on?
Seriously though, the new turret sounds are amazing. Content Designer | Team Five 0 @regnerBA |

Sophisticated metrics say it's likely you already had your sound turned on in the first place. CCP Eterne | Community Representative

Sentient Blade wrote:Sounds good, no pun intended.
The only thing which comes to mind is for ships which are on the very edge of cap stability, potentially ticking back and forth over that 30% every time the shield booster fires. That could get a mite annoying. You can set the threshold to be wherever you want actually, just like with the other warnings. |

Salpad wrote:I don't think the Capacitor warning should come as early as 30%. I'm sure a lot of players rely on peak recharge, which AFAIK happens at around 35% cap.
So, seriously... Consider moving the threshold to 20%. Or make it customizable, like the warnings for Shield HP, Armour HP and Hull HP.
It's fully customizable, like the shield, armor and structure warnings. |

The music from the jukebox won't go away. All of it is still being used in the improved system. No tracks were harmed during the making of this expansion. |

Eskimo Spy wrote:Being a self-important audio engineer myself, is there anyyyyy chance CCP can enable an HQ audio option? I simply cannot stand the 128kbps mp3 compression applied to the music, as I usually play with head phones on.
I realize this would eat up some computer processor/ram stuff, but as with graphics, it'd be nice to have the option.
Also, remix competition on a song. My vote is for Below The Asteroid.
Music is compressed by a modified .ogg encoder provided by our sound engine and I use much less than 128kbps
Changing the compression would mean bigger client download, it should cost the same processor time to decode and no RAM since all the music is streamed from the harddrive. |

Of course. We have a prototype of the combat mission music. *tease* |

apart from that excellent blog. We had a video but it was from a broken build where you couldn't really see what was going on, we decided to release the dev blog rather than wait for a new video. We'll try to get something out to you, -if that fails, you should hear it on patch day! |

Panhead4411 wrote:You also added some annoyingly repetitive sounds...
Undock sound Dock sound Initial NPC aggression sound End of NPC aggression sound "New" Stargate sounds still just sound like broken TS or Vent noises.
Just to name a few...and these all stack on top of each other, if i undock while still flagged with NPC aggression i then get both new sounds...
Also, would it be possible to give us an option to turn turret sounds UP...currently in order to hear my turret sounds i have to have the environment sounds to a point where the VERY repetitive NPC rat sounds get extremely annoying. Also, with the volume at the level needed to hear my turrets shooting, while avoiding the even more annoying and very repetitive active module noises, it would be nice to have a "station" volume option, so we don't have to keep turning our volume up and down constantly.
There should be no docking/undocking sounds.
As for the aggression timer sound that is a bug. |

Mikron Alexarr wrote:As a veteran who played with sound, it saddens me a bit to hear the music will go to the cloud. "...But Still We Go On" is the first thing I always heard when I log into eve. That welcoming music was part of the routine that kept me grounded. I understand the reasoning, and Eve is all about reasoning and cold numbers. As I listen to the music now though (on sound cloud), I am reminded that all things change, and Eve should be no exception.
My sincere hope is that the music team can come up with tracks of the quality that these old legacy tracks had. Bash the old music all you want. It has been there for a long time, and I've always loved listening to it. I'm glad that the option to listen to it in the cloud is there just in case the music team cocks it up. Actually, I think it would be great if we could hear more samples as they are developed from the music team. You could put those on sound cloud too.
Weird, my client will always plays "Miner Stories" first.
All the old music still plays in hi-sec, and different songs for different situations/locations. Try to hear them all. |

I have some comments but please note that these are strictly from me as a player!
I am really excited about these changes - For one thing, ship environment sounds make a ton of sense and it's something I've wanted to have for a while. Just add actual crews that modify the ships stats and we're gold :P
I understand the soundcloud initiative; but does it have any impact on people with a limited data plan ?
In the same feeling; can this impact on players with limited bandwidth who perhaps play eve and listen to other online streaming services like EVE-Radio ?
The jukebox vs media player comment is relevant - but don't forget that adding a jukebox and having the ability to play your own MP3s in the thing are not date related at all. If this is not going to be an option moving forwards, will we be able to export our current playlists ?
Sound made when finishing a mission - I hope it's a Ding! :+P
Otherwise, I really can't wait to hear (pun lol) from you guys

Please give us the option of turning the B/G music off?
Sorry guys, but it is --IE, the last Duality build I played-- sometimes just jarring, and that's annoying as Hell. Options, please, options!
That, and please don't change the sound of Dual 180mm Autocannon IIs. Best-sounding guns in the game! You can set it off simply by putting the music volume to 0. The setting gets persisted to your next sessions, so in essence that's how you turn it off... |

Just to be clear, Soundcloud is ofc just a website. We are not streaming music into your client when it's running, we're putting the music on Soundcloud as a backup. So people on limited data plans can simply stay clear of that website! :-) |

Mara Pahrdi wrote:I'm using the jukebox occasionally. And this is coming a bit early, since I'm still waiting for that 50 MBit connection I ordered and that I'll probably get in q1 2013. Currently I'm still running on 384 KBit/s , so streaming whatever ist not an option.
So, if you open up your EVE folder, and go res > audio > jukebox you'll find all the mp3s used in the game. Just copy them out and put them into your favorite media player. |

Terrorfrodo wrote:The dev blog sounds really promising and I completely agree with the approach However, I will probably not benefit from any changes unless some other improvements are made because frankly, I have turned music off. The reasons: 1) music interferes with voice comms during pvp 2) when running two clients, as I usually do, each client plays its own music which results in an intolerable sound mash This would be easy to fix: 1) Make a hotkey to mute and unmute music. I don't want to go to the ESC menu every time I need to turn music on or off, but if I could mute/unmute it with a simple keystroke, I would enable music during quiet periods like pve and mute it when there is need to talk on TS 2) Make sure that only one instance of the client (the one started first) plays music. Shouldn't be too hard. (I guess I could install a separate client and disable music there, but I'm not willing to maintain two clients just for this. I don't even have enough disk space left on my SSD.)
I often use the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F12 shortcut to disable sounds; but it would be nice if there was a modifier that could toggle the music but leave game sounds.
Just out of interest, are there any clips on YouTube demonstrating the new turret sounds ?

Dersen Lowery wrote:Would there be a way to have EVE only play music if it's the frontmost window, and to play environmental effects at 25% volume if it's not? That way, if you had sound enabled, you'd only hear one soundtrack, but you could still make out the shield alarm on your AFK Mackinaw (frex ;-) ) in a background window. That's a good idea and worth looking into, if we can do it technically! |
