I'm currently flying a tristan, and have been using a certain tactic for some time now but want to gather other people's experiences on it. Because 90% of the time NPC shields are weak against EM and their armor is weak against explosive, I'll carry both EM based missles and Explosive based missles.
When I start attacking one ship with my rails, I'll launch EM missles at a seperate ship so that by the time I get to it, it's shields are completely gone. Repeated over and over again. If I meet a cruiser or larger ship (and occassional frig work), after I have the shields down with the EM missles and rails, I swap over to the explosives and start pounding away at the armor/struct.
How efficient do you feel this is, and would sticking to thermal just be a better all around choice? There is a delay when switching missles, but if they hit for much more due to ship resitances.. is it worth it?
Side note: NPC hunting, not PVP. ------------

it depends on what NPC you're fighting.. but as someone who has been flying Caldari for a year and a half I would say a single missle type is just easier. I use Kenetic against Guristas..
I don't think it's worth it. Go to Eve-I, see the group of ships you're fighting in object explorer. Most ships will have a lesser average resist for their tank, use that kind of missle.
Kenetic for Guristas.. some have lower EM resists then Kenetic on shields, however, overall, the kenetic resists add up to more (or should I say, are less). ________

Well, easier isn't what I'm after. It's really about efficiency. I don't mind micromanaging my missle/rail turrents, if that's what you mean? ------------

NPCs all use different resistances..
for example, most amarr ships actually have a weaker resistance against EM on armor then explosive. Pretend most of these ships are using hardeners. It might be better to use EM missles once you get to armor on some Amarr ships.
It's not like this with every ship.. some have very basic resistances. Other then you learning the resistances of every ship in the game there isn't much you can do for efficiency except for using whatever resistance is generally better for the NPCs you fight.
Like with Guristas. Some have 0% resistances to shields, sure. However, the majority of harder NPCs have lower resistances for shields against Kenetic. Odd, but that's how it is. It's not like this with every NPC.. understand that they're all different, I would study Eve-I and the different ship resistances if I were you.
and personally I don't think changing out ammo is very efficient.. but this is against fighting a lot of different NPCs while mission running, it would be nearly impossible to learn everything like this. I know it's different when you fight in asteroid belts though. I would probably do it if I fought a lot of the same NPC and could learn when to change ammo and fire different types of missles.. mostly on the bigger NPCs that might take a while to kill.
Sorry if i'm not making much sense or if I'm rambling.. it's late here and I shouldn't even be awake right now. ________

Edited by: ErrorS on 18/04/2005 09:30:43 I might not be right on what damage types are best for what NPCs.. so ignore that part. Just understand that resists on different NPCs don't always make sense. ________

eve-i.com and the object explorer if you dont know what the lowest resistances are or damage they do. Fluffy carebear (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination. |
