Has anyone done this yet?
I know of a pos that was destroyed yesterday with a full frontal onslaught and I was wondering if it was the first one ever taken out in this manner?

Huh? I've never heard of that before, was the POS online and were its guns online? Also was it a large one or one of the smaller ones?
Taking down an online POS with guns online is going to take you pretty long. It's possible as long as there aren't too many weapons around - they cycle jam and you can tank their damage. When people are inside of the POS it's a whole different story, and it's not pretty. :)

Yes the pos was online.. yes it had lots of guns.. and yes they were shooting back
I dont know if it was a large or small one.
I didnt make it in time to take part, got to the system and had to log for a few hours. There were about 50 people in the system (almost all in bs's pounding the thing) when I got there and it took them a few hours but they battered it down.
I'll ask if anyone has a fraps or something and if it can be released.

Few hours like 2-3 hours or 3-6? What were your loses, if any?

Edited by: lythos miralbar on 18/04/2005 15:32:17 These are from the closing stages of the assault when pretty much only the control tower is left. There were more ships involved but I am told some hostiles appeared so a portion of the gang pealed off to go deal with em.
Im pretty sure there is some fraps footage kicking around.. I'll see if i can dig it up.
only one thing left to say really... STAIN EMPIRE FTW!!

I think your best bet is to blockade the system till it goes offline. Unless you have an unlimited supply of ships that is.... -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net http://www.serenitymovie.com |

it had 1 medium gun, so the damage output can't have been too crazy :|
the fully fitted ones are pretty much impossible to kill atm

Like i said i didnt get to see it and i have no idea what was there. I do know for a fact there were 4 large beam batteries as I was told this by several different people.
I was assuming they werent visable or were hidden behind the icon blobage.but anyway.. it still made a nice bang

it has been done several times already. what has not been done yet to my knowledge is to take on a fully armed pos and down it.

Dreads probably going to change that, but I just hope its never going take like 6-12 hours to take POS down as it would lead players forming fleets when most others are in sleep.

Edited by: Leno on 18/04/2005 18:13:26 Well we attacked one the other day, with 2 med guns, tanked it with a med armor rep 2 on my apoc. Sent it into reinforced mode and came back 8 hours later. Sadly when we came back it was all online b/c the corp who owned it didnt get a mail it was being attacked and petitioned (even tho they scouted us attacking several times).
Then when we petitioned there was nothing that could be done, though the GM was nice about it and did admit it was a mistake to not just extend reinforced mode.
EDIT: BTW the Med guns where doing 2700 dmg vs unhardened ships ---------------

What Leno said.
If the POS is not set up right, 20+ battleships can take the shields down to the 25% level in about 6 hours.
Not exactly my idea of a picnic, but definitely something everybody should try once or twice.
I still think there are significant BUGS with the way a POS assault goes, the notification procedure, and a host of other issues.
I hope CCP is looking into it, because otherwise it's a waste of people's gaming time. Yes people have done it, is the answer to your question.

you can target sentries that are inside the force field or only the CT ?

After you take down the shields you have to wait till it runs out of fuel, which can be a long while. IMO, if you can get past the shields, uber guns, scrambling, and EW, you should be able to take over the POS.

Our POS was almost taken down the first day it was up. We didn't have the proper defenses in place (only a bunch of small and medium turrets).
There were a ton of attackers, pretty much everybody that lived in fade or deklein was there. They would have had it, had we not broken through the blockade and warped into the forcefield. No matter what the actual POS defenses look like, 4-5 BS's inside the POS prevents any take over.
And no, you can't target turrets inside the POS while the shields are up.

Do you know that for a fact, because allthough that was promised it does not seem to be the case.

Edited by: Ikvar on 19/04/2005 02:35:03 Modulated Mining and Slacker Industries just killed a Phantom Renegades POS in KBP7-G in a full frontal assault with about 15 Battleships. The owner of the POS is now trying to get it back via petition because the Medium Beam Laser batteries fitted with Radio Crystals with a 90KM falloff couldn't break our tanks/remote repairing at 15KM. She chose to lie to a GM by saying they weren't firing when she knew they were as she logged on a corpmate who bounced off the POS bubble and then had his Apoc and Pod destroyed.
I frapsed the whole thing and will be putting a video up tomorrow. _________________

I took a POS down solo, I was in a bestower. After staring up at my large opponent I proceeded to charge into the midst of combat and quickly began to unanchor everything.
