And a lot of other 5's but also a ton of 4's, I'm actually quite happy with all those pesky skills trained but quite unhappy with consequences of getting higher and higher SP on those toons, soon enough my pod will cost me about same price the regular ships I fly...

I'll let you know in about 3 days...about to jump into a paladin and I hit amarr bs V by mid-day sunday. After using a tengu for over two years, I figure switching to marauders might be a refreshing move. It was a bit of a pain because I had originally very little sp devoted to guns and fewer still for armor tanking skills, now (after amarr bs V) I have large pulse/beam spec skills at 4 and all of the support gun skills maxed or at 4 and armor tanking skills and marauders skill are up to 4 or maxed as well. |

Each long skill makes future look brighter. Indeed, before I was seeing Cruiser V as something heroic to train, now training T2 larges and a lot of subcap ships seem doable. Especially since I got proper remap. It's hilarious and sad how I was training guns and ships for so long without any real remap |

Finished that one on two characters - I just hope OGB nerfs and ship rebalances will make it useful again...
Other than that, I think it's the novelty value and how hard you waited for the skill to finish. I think I was excited when I finished my first BS V - last one wasn't so special because I did it seven times before.

AWU5 is the worst skill to train for.
It's really a must have, but it's annoying because 8/10 fittings don't need it, so you don't even get more dps/tank etc out of it like you do for training BS5.
Apparently Fleet command 5 is annoying as hell too. "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared." - Niccolo Machiavelli |

I think Recon Ships V was the skill I was most happy about when I completed it on the first character. It makes a huge difference because you have a whopping 100 more CPU available and it also boosts the point range of the Arazu considerably. Neut range on the Curse, too.
Logistics V is similar, with IV all your fittings are crappy and when you get to V, suddenly everything works.
Now it's been a while since I completed any skill I didn't already have on another character. In 30 days I'll get to Tactical Logistics Reconfiguration V (T2 Triage), that'll be a new one :) . |

Caldari BS 5.
Then, when I decided to take my alt's Widow out for a spin, I found out that I'd somehow lost almost almost 2m SP from it without realising. But hey, it's my own fault for not checking a small piece of text hidden away on a submenu somewhere.
So while we're talking about long skills; I'm going to use this opportunity to say that the SP and clone system *really* needs work. How it's lasted this long without something as primitive as an automatic pre-undock check I will never know. |

AWU 5, put it off for ages and it finally completed core competency elite, I can't imagine not having it anymore either with a lot of fittings that benefit from it (mainly being able to use implant sets with omega instead of a pg implant)
BC5, because it's an awsome skill to have that improves 12 ships.
Recon and Logi 5 because they both vastly improve those ship classes.
Drone interfacing 5, my first 'long' 5 skill which gives a very nice boost for training time. |

My favourite ones to have completed are those which don't have a very tasty and tangible reward at the end, but that you somewhat "need".
AWU V, Trajectory Analysis V, Drone Interfacing V, Command ships V, HAC V, Recons V, etc.
Training the racial cruisers to V, for instance, was easier in my mind, as there were particular ships I wanted to fly at the end of it. You felt you were getting a BIG reward when you finished.
AWU V...not so much. You need it and you want it, but all you feel is relief after getting it out of the way. |

I wasn't, either, but I wanted it so badly. First, because with it and Command Ships V, my autocannon Sleipnir hits further than a Null BlasterTalos, and Hail actually becomes a viable default option sometimes.
Second, because I like "finishing" trees, and perfect support Gunnery skills is always useful.
Eventually, I did wait until a business trip that would keep me away from the game a few days. Once I had less than 10 days left, I could finally force myself to finish it.
Now I am training Amarr cruiser V...not having flown an Amarr ship ever. At all. And not being able to fire even a T1 small laser LOL. But it's better to put this Per/Wil remap to good use and not waste the remaining 4 months. |

In my very early days of EVE I thought it would be awsome to mine, so I got industry, refining and mining to V. I wish I could remove every industry skill off my skill list as it's a blemish to my mostly otherwise purely combat char.
Gallente Industrial V I do not regret, as the itty V is great for hauling and if I'd ever want a freighter isn't far away |

I was quite happy when I finished Amarr Cruiser V and Gallente Cruiser V since I could then train Recon and Heavy Assault Ships, both took about 16 days so over a month for both. I followed those up with Covert Ops V and I'll probably do Assault Ships V after I'm done with BC V (next skill up after Rapid Firing V is done), along with the rest of my x2 Gunnery support skills and the other Cruiser skills to V.
Still have a lot on my plate. |
