Why not just see the whole episode as game content, which it is. Player driven game content. If you are annoyed about it, why not shoot at the perpetrators in game instead of ***** about it on the forums?
Eve is a game of ego's and reputation. Isk means nothing. By flaming this subject you are adding to reputation and ego - the only real currency in this game. Can you see where I'm going with this??
There is a war dec system in this game, so use it. But stop *****ing about it. Its really dull. --------------------------------------------

Edited by: Ghost Red on 19/04/2005 08:44:40 Let's not forget here that the game mechanics facilitated this sort of action. There is simply no way to effectively kill off an enemy in Eve. There is no end game. I have hammered on about this before, and its still a major downpoint of the game. To kill off a corp, an enemy, you have to wipe them out completely - assets, ships, morale, the lot. Its not nice, but there is no other way to do it. The alternative is to blob war an opponent into submission through tedium.
So please, save all this phoney concern and moralising - its just a fricking game, its just a bunch of pixels, you dont own anything, it all belongs to CCP, so easy come easy go. The game is more than ISK and owning uber ships - its about creating a stimulating game environment. One person lost, one person won. Big deal. It happens every day in RL - do you guys cry like babies when something goes against you in RL too? How do you cope?
In conclusion: you all suck.
Edit: for spelling --------------------------------------------

Who wants to play a game where 50,000 players are paranoid and suspicious, where they fear to share or make friends because of the risks to them in the game?
Sounds like the perfect game.
How is this any different to Enron? CEO acts irresponsibly and gets shafted. The parties involved get punished. C'est la vie.
In Eve, punishment is dished out a different way. We've already established that Isk means nothing, so GHSC punishment is lack of respect from certain aspects of the Eve community. Further punishment could come in the form of a war dec. The important thing is, if you feel so strongly about it, as many people clearly do, then do something about it in game. Pod GHSC into next week. But take some action. Otherwise, quit whining and move on.
All this thread is, is a load of suckbutts competiting to see who can climb the highest moral peak.
Those that can, do; those that can't, talk about it. Think on that. --------------------------------------------

Originally by: Choralone I see no problem with monopolies - one can either substitute the product in question or find a way to compete.
Tell that to my friend who lost his independent record shop because Virgin and HMV complained cos he was undercutting them. The cartel of music suppliers froze him out and his business went to the wall. Monopoly means you cannot compete - its a monopoly. Geddit?
If you allow monopolies and cartels, then surely corp theft is no worse. Its morally on a par. It happens. If you remove it completely from the game, it would be one helluva boring game.

Not in the UK they aren't. And thats first hand experience talking.
Mailana - he was devastated, but my point is, he dealt with it. He has another shop now. Its called "being an adult". Adults move on, sort things out and can distinguish between bad stuff and good stuff and acknowledge that sometimes you get shafted and there is not you can do about it.
Children cry about it. --------------------------------------------

Really, most of us have dealt with enough crap in the real world and don't need it in a game. Spare us the "insightful" life lessons.
Whoa! wait a minute - you willingly subscribe to a game where thousands of other people compete in a gaming environment and you expect everyone to leave their competitive baggage at the log in screen?? Thats hilarious! How ridiculously idealistic of you. --------------------------------------------

Valentine, what the rules say and what happens are two completely different things. Its called "real life".
Like I said, I have first hand experience of this. The rules didn't apply. Thats called "big business impinging on the law". Its how rich people get away with stuff that less well off people don't. --------------------------------------------

So just because some people can abuse the law becomes a reason for moral disregard?
I'm sorry, I don't agree with the attitude of 'Well he did it so why shouldn't I?' It's a mere sop to excusing one's own guilt or responisibility.
Just because someone else may have no scruples or morals does not lessen the need for them. Humanity is nothing if it allows itself to be ruled always by the lowesr common denominator.
I'm talking from a capitalist business POV Valentine, not a wider moral issue.
I agree with you to an extent, but in businss - whether running a corp in Eve or in RL, anything goes. I ran a business in RL for 4 years. Recently sold the company. I did everything I could to screw over our competitors and I don't regret a single action. Its what happens. Its business. Same as here with GHSC. You can like it or not like it. But its business just the same.

Why is this thread still going? There's nothing left to argue, I already summed everything up perfectly.
Move along now, nothing to see here. --------------------------------------------

Is that or is that not a preplanned attack on my gameplay experience?
