Dude, if people can fly around in an Corp named "Ballsaximus", they should be able to fly in pink ships.
"Immersion"...lol.

250,000 ships all with unique paintjobs to render would add much lag and is as such a silly idea. There is already serious talk from CCP about implementing a few custom paint jobs, this is the only way to do it without possibly making things unstable.
Deal with it. That's how it is. If you have any further thoughts on something i've posted, or want to ask an unrelated question feel free to contact me by EvE Mail or by private conversation if i'm online. BUDDY TRIALS AVAILABLE - 21days plus big ISK bonus and starting assistance |

Galaxies was also possibly the WORST Star Wars game ever. Not a great way to set an example. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Hows about this...
Every alliance selects three colours as their scheme, this can be done through the management screens or when an alliance is created. Corporation colour schemes can be based on the colours of their logos or editable through corp management.
These colours automatically create a skin that is available to use on your ships or remove as you like. Perhaps give us a toggle on the fitting screen to apply or remove alliance/corp paintwork. Perhaps CCP can make a texture to overlay the original with different areas that respond to the specific colour choices. You could even give alliances or corps power to impose paintwork on their members.
No chance of people making ridiculous or lewd skins but gives fleets a chance to 'fly the colours' and individuals a chance to advertise their membership to corps or alliances.
No lag from server delivering custom paint jobs since all of the work can be done by the client based on a small amount of data: - Paint job applied Y/N? - Corp/Alliance Colours? |

Pohbis wrote:We don't have it because the aesthetics of the ships in EVE, is pretty much all EVE has going for it when we're talking visuals.
CCP has put a lot of resources into creating distinctively different themes for the ships. At the moment they are expanding upon it by reworking and introducing more colour schemes.
The ships are one of the few things CCP can work with in a space game and they are not going to compromise the integrity of that by letting people paint their ships bright pink and yellow. For every 1 fleet that would use the option like you describe it, 10000 players would paint their ships bright neon and sit at the Jita 4-4 undock.
It's simply too valuable of an asset to let people "ruin" it by turning EVE ships into the new West Brit Bank, and I don't think the marketing team feels there is any reason to widen the gap between their trailers and what people will experience when they start playing either.
Then they can charge a huge fee to customize a ship skin and a huge fee to repackage a ship with a customized skin. |

You do realize one of the reasons we had these recent texture revamps for the ships is to support color change / logo decals right? "Oh, you can't help that," said the troll: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" -ásaid the forumwarrior. "You must be," said the troll, "or you wouldn't have come here." |

Have you seen what has been made with WIS? You think CCP will deliver?
Expect the worst. Red Maiden: People actually play with WiS off? Why? It's really well done, and adds an excellent layer of immersion in the game. Plus, my character's ass is out of this world and I like looking at it. |

Ok then ill play a little compromise here.
1. CCP only allows the change of base colors. (Plain colors, nothing extra fancy with lines and stripes and fancy giggles) 2. CCP chooses to only allow you to change to the colors they approve of. (Like the hair color options on your avatar.) 3. Either decals or a second pre set coating option to color on your ship for additional individuality. (Like... halo's second base color option, less of the second color, but in cooler places.)
Result everything is just different enough to satisfy BOTH halves of community one wanting customization, the other that's seems to be extremely concerned with immersion. No additional customization beyond that point, No custom genitalia ships. Why is it that people think this game is for everyone?A better question would be "Why do some people think this game is only for them?" |
