hehe Popular Science did an article on this years ago (prolly 10 or so) when the pentagon admitted that there was a base there, but wouldn't say what is was for. They had declassified russian spy sat pics of the base, very close to these but in B/W. The western runway in the photo extends 2+ miles into a dry lake bed. Wonder what lands on that?

2+ mile runway? probably hypersonics, if you build it sturdy enough to survive Mach 6+, it's gonna need a lot of speed to stay airborne, and it'd need that kind of distance to get up to speed for takeoff, and slow down while landing.

A bit of info on the supposed successor of the SR-71... A cryogenically-fueled, Pulse Wave Detonation Engine (or similar engine) equipped plane capable of mach 6+. Had a model kit of one of these babys when i was younger, so it's something that has been around for awhile (the concept at least). PDWE tech is some exotic stuff, the cryo-methane fuel described is quite interesting
