As i went to a belt in an indy to set myself up for some afk mining i noticed a group of apoc's and an indy. Looked kinda odd, so i did a show info on them all and they were all in noob corps, all made around a similar time also. Getting even more suspisious i decided to try and convo them , i tried with them all and none of them responded. This only strengthened what i thought. So i proceeded to fly to the can, i took all but 1 unit of ore (bearing in mind an indy was already sitting in the can, why did the indy not grab the ore as they saw me approach??). I took the ore, and nothing, they didnt speak, didnt convo me at all. Now i knew for sure they were macro miners. so i repeated the same again , after a couple of times whoever is behind the macro came back and saw me do it once more, and began to talk , trying to squirm his way out. Anyway, thought i would name and shame the chars here so if you see them, take there ore too. petition is also on its way

Edited by: Khrystoff on 22/04/2005 03:55:11 There's the same situation in my system.
Is Macro-Mining defined as:
1:Using Macro commands to automate the process as much as possible and just pillaging fields for money by yourself with multiple accounts??
2:Very large mining operations, also perhaps run by one person with multiple accounts. But not using the "Marco" automations.

They have been macro'ing for a long time, ive sent a few petitions but the gm's dont do anything, doubt they will this time. He uses a few more characters, they always work in groups though so its hard to catch'em, not like that 7-8 man large barge gang.
Heres an old screenshot of the most famous macro miners in eve history, they got banned, or i think so ,Munarts . That dude is back, but now with 7-8 covetors ;P dont remember the char names.

This guy is on my friends list. I get rich stealing from these guys. You wouldn't believe how many of them there are. Fly around Luminaire and Algogille and witness.
They tend to "Wake up" once in a while and try to stop me, so I know there are real people behind the odd silent BS carebears. But they never say a word. Creepy.

I can assure you, CCP takes macromining very serious. I petitioned macrominers twice before, and got a GM response within the next 30 minutes. In both cases the accounts got banned 24 hours later.
Make sure you petition in the "exploit" category, and mention macromining in the title. Give the location and all character names involved. The GM's will check their logs to detect any repititive behavior.

Check for repitive behaviuor ? Wouldn't 'all' miners come under that description.

Well, the same could be said for gatecampers - pretty sure a macro could easily be written to sit in place, lock and snipe everything that comes in range.
The key thing here is the level and precision of repetitiveness. For example, sure, the "live" miner will be repeatedly dragging ore from their hold into a can. But the "live" miner will not be doing it at exactly the same time every cycle. The "live" hauler will not be warping, docking, undocking etc after waiting exactly the same amount of time between each activity. The other key thing is that a macro is likely to continue repeating it's actions even when they become pointless - e.g. haulers going back and forth despite someone having stolen all the ore, miners continually locking and trying to mine targets despite there being no more roids in-range, etc.
It's the precision of the repetitiveness, and inappropriate repetitiveness that gives the macro miner away. I mean, after all, the GM can "relocate" a suspected macro miner - if they then try and lock the nearest target and activate miners on it, there's a good chance there isn't a human behind the wheel

2 sounds like 1 account is mining and your alt's indying. Nothing wrong with that.

he might have simply gone afk for a crap.. the trick is if the ore keeps going into the can while he does jack all else..

I parked my Badger II right next to the Mammoth, within range of the jetcan.
with every mining cycle i dragged the recovered ore straight to my caro hold.
This went on for a loooooong time. ore would show up in-can. ore would "show up" in my cargo hold. All the while new asteroids were being targedted and mined.
It was very obvious that the lights were on, but no one was home.
He only noticed what i was doing when i popped the can to see what would happen . . . he promptly asked in local "why you are taking ore thing? you did not dig it here" and all 3 accounts left the system.
They're in my address book now, so if they come back i'll be there.

Here's a thought, instead of whining for CCP to help you git the ebil macro miner, why don't you just roll up your indy every so often and snatch the ore. I mean hell, you'd only be as bad as Tenaj then right?
Could be lucrative.....tRit iz TeH powa these days!

I can back this up, when it comes to macro mining the GM's are on the case pretty swift. What they do is usually show up in a Polaris frigate and inspect for a while, convo etc. then if there is no response they monitor logs for a day or two and if it contains macro-like behaviour their accounts get suspended for a few weeks.
Then if they get caught a second time, they are perma-banned.

It's a case of better safe than sorry with macro miners, as far as I'm concerned. They ruin the game for everyone so if you even suspect someone is macroing, you should report it asap.

I would just like to point out that given:
1. A very fast ship (we are talking 4000M/s+ here, folks). 2. A good startup point far out that gets you up to full speed. 3. Giving a dead on approach command.
You can bounce a ship a good long ways. Applying that to the mining range of mining lasers is an exercise left to the reader.

GMs do take macro mining seriously to the fact that since names are specified here a Forum mod will come and lock this topic and probably delete all these threads. ~

i personally don't have a problem with macro miners unless they are selling on ebay. At least it helps keep mineral prices low

I just wiped 2 macro miners from the face of Eve today myself. I warred them a while back because of it, I'd been observing them for some time. Finally remembered to go shoot them today.
1. Entered system. Said hello. 2. Entered belt. I was flashing red to them I'd imagine. Waited 2 mins 3. Warped to them and locked them. Waited 2 mins 4. Killed 'em both. Waited 2 mins. 5. Podded 'em both.
The best thing is, I don't need proof beyond what I've seen with my own eyes. If I was wrong, sue me. I think the loss of 2 ships, 6 partial expanders, 2 ice miners, 1 T2 MWD, 1 T2 Med Shield booster and implants was a bit more worth it than a 24hr ban.

If you suspect someone is macro mining you have to petition them. If you do not petition them and profit from thei marco by either stealing their ore or shooting at them when your at war for their loot you can be accused of exploiting it yourself.
So, before you steal their ore or profit from them in any other way from the marco ( and their afkness) you have to petition them otherwise you are at risk of being accused of exploiting yourself.
