When EVE Online: Retribution arrives, so will a whole host of inventory improvements.
Team Game Of Drones has been working flat out to make sure that these are not only awesome, but useful and efficient for both players and our server infrastructure.
CCP Arrow is here to tell you all about the upcoming changes, and how they will affect the organisation inside your internet spaceships hangar in his new Dev Blog.

Ah, it wasn't mentioned in the blog but if you have your Active ship's inventory selected and switch to another ship, the Inventory will stay on the active ship, instead of the ship that was active before you changed ships, because that is what players expect. @CCP - I have a (terrible) recording of some UI latency while fitting ships. Figured I'd pass it on, but who would want to see it?
Was looking at performance issues together with a few other team members. Feel free to post it in this thread or the Inventory Performance thread. Though it may have been caught as part of the general improvements.
Also you are welcome! Feel free to poke me on: Twitter |

I can't tell the difference between the limited and restricted icons. My digital color meter is telling me the limited is 115,101,34 and the restricted is 136,47,34 but I can't tell them apart as it falls too much into the golden/greenish area. Can you make it more yellow (like the wreck icons)? Which type of color blindness is it? We tested this out using both Protanopia and Deuteranopia and it had a visible difference between the two types. Let me know what type of color blindness it is and I'll look into it for you.
Hope that helps. CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Xikuan wrote:Nice work, the changes look nice.
While you are looking into corp hanger permissions, would it be possible to address the issue of not being able to directly drag items from a corporate hanger to the trade window? At the moment (even if you have the correct permissions) you must first move it to your personal hanger before trading it.
I understand this would probably be a small use case, but for test_free (the program that we have to give out free ships to newbies from the corp hanger) this is used very heavily and would make our lives easier.
Will do. This is a defect, will investigate if there is a technical reason we cannot allow users to drag directly from a division to the trade window. A few people have mentioned it in this thread so I would assume that this is a problem for more than some.

Also if you are using the Back or Forward buttons on your mouse for Push-to-Talk, (like I do myself) it might be good to open SetPoint or whatever software you use to set up your mouse. There you can change what these buttons do by default and set a custom function for them per software, which allows you to turn them off for Browsers only, for example. It was a defect that has been resolved in the Retribution build. Nice work spotting it though CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

War Kitten wrote:I may have overlooked it in reading, but is the "Open Corporate Hangars" button coming back in station, or do we still have to find it on the tree? It will be available as a direct Icon link in a new tab called 'Inventory' in the EVE Menu. This EVE Menu is located in the 'E' icon at the top of the Neocom. You can drag the Corporate hangar icon from there to the Neocom root so that you can access it directly there whenever you are docked in a station with an office. Devore Sekk wrote:Oh, one more Q, since the nice CCPs are answering... Will the 'scroll on drag' behaviour be copied to other windows we can drag to? Specifically, bookmarks. If you have a lot of personal bookmarks you're trying to move to a corp folder (or another personal folder), and you can't make both the bookmarks and the target folder visible by resizing the bookmarks window, you have to move your bookmarks to an inventory container first, which takes a long time and you can only do 5 at a time, then move them into the target folder, which also takes a long time. Copy/paste would also work great. Yes! We didn't just implement scrolling inside the Index Tree, but also inside the content areas of all Inventories so when you drag items to the upper or lower edge of the content area, it will scroll there as well. But as you point out Copy/paste can also work great in these cases so hopefully using one of those two options will make this specific use case easier once Retribution hits CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Would be nice to be able to navigate between the info windows on various items without having to move the cursor over those tiny things and try to click click them. ( As far as i am aware we can't do that, feel free to prove me wrong and educate me if we can.) Ahh it so happens that if you choose to use the Back and Forward keybindings on your mouse (which is customizable in the Esc Menu) it will in fact work for other Back and Forward buttons in EVE, in the Show info windows for example CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Styth spiting wrote:Any chance of enabling/disabling the auto open option when dragging items to a container in the tree view or setting a longer duration? Or what about once you wait the 5 second time every container you mouse over opens instantly after the first? I find that most of the time when this feature happens it was unintentional, and the only options are to drag back the items to their original container, drag them off the screen because the original container is not displayed, or wait though 45 seconds of checking each additional container to find the one I was looking for. I could deal with it if I didn't need to wait an additional 5 seconds per container after the first one.
So yeah, enable/disable, or set wait time, or after the first 5 seconds any additional moused over containers display the contents without a 5 second wait.
This is no longer the case in Retribution. Hovering tabs while dragging items does not change the selected inventory, it does however allow you to expand collapsed tabs so that you can drag items into a sub-category and you will be able to darg to the lower or top edges to scroll the Index tree while dragging the items CCP Arrow-á-á|-á Senior Game Designer-á|-á @CCP_Arrow |

Fire Stone wrote:I may have missed this but was the issue resolved where you have 3 windows open in a station
1) corp hanger 2) item hanger 3) ship cargo
Un-dock and you get 2 windows open showing your ships cargo? This will result in you only having one window open, Ship cargo (3) since that goes with you when you undock. When you dock again in any station, the item hangar (2) will appear again as you left it and when you dock again in the same station with the office you left the Corp hangar (1) open in, that will welcome you exactly as you left it.
- All windows that show something in your active ship will persist between undock/dock.
- Item hangar and Ship hangar will persist in all stations globally, how you left them once you dock again.
- Corporate hangars will persist how you left them when you dock again in each office individually.

Although from the performance part wtf is "Plastic wraps"?????
Also I'm not colour blind and I didn't notice the difference between the icons until I went back and looked at them again. (Maybe my quick glance only sees grey-scale :P ) Different Icons will be better, agreed with the circle and cross from the Cert Planer
Plastic Wraps are the containers used to do courier contracts. They apparently make the database people cry a bit as they have no set size (being determined by the contents of the contract)
Basically. A plastic wrap had almost unlimited capacity and was a unique container in that it could have multiple more containers inside of it (containerception). When the Inventory opened with a "plastic wrap" it would go and ask the database about all the contents in the wrap and if there were containers too, it would ask what was in each container. So we were having to check multiple levels down of an Inventory without you choosing to look as a user.
This is fine when you choose to look into a wrap of your own accord, we make one call and it is quick. But the game was deciding to check all wraps you had access too in a station and this was just taking far too long as it was having to load them all up.
Regarding restriction icons The restriction icons will have instant tooltips that should help tell you what access you have where, but we hear your concerns. Feel free to poke me on: Twitter |

The new Active ship cargo window will take care of 2), but 1) is a good suggestion and I'll look into it personally.
Pierced Brosmen wrote:Thank you so much for the improvements detailed in the dev blog. Looking forward to seeing them and using them in Retribution.
But two small questions. As a person who more or less always have my ship's cargohold window open when I play. 1. Can the state of the cargohold window persist between log-ins? If the cargohold was open when I logged out, I'd like it to be open wehen I log back in. 2. Would it be possible to implement a feature where you could set default location, size and stacked/unstacked parameters on the cargohold window? Like place and resize the window to your liking and click the window settings button and chose something like "save as default". So when you get in a brand new ship where you have never opened or moved the cargohold before, it will open with those parameters.
