Um, obviously I would perfer the fastest route. Unfortunately, there are services that require occasional trips into "crowded areas". A decent city, in this case a game, would widen the roads to ease the traffic.
If eve is growing beyond its server capacity, perhaps it is time to "widen the road".
Just a thought.
Don't think the city analogy works so well. They don't widen the roads they create a bypass or a ring road. Alternativeley you sit in a traffic jam (USA maybe different but looking a NY I doubt it). Darth Solo replied on another thread that they don't tell you to avoid London center because its busy. They do its called the congestion charge.
Despite the current widespread issue lag has been building in crowded systems gradually. Seems like some load balancing has been going on. If you're in a 200 person system Hastrabull is right, don't whine about the lag, move. We do pay for a service but there are limits to what can be achieved and what is reasonable expectation.

You have 300 people in one system and you dont want lag? Think!
this problem has nothing to do with congestion i'm the only person in the system i am in and it is still laggy any other helpful suggestions?

You are absolutely right to an extent. My only point is that sometimes you have to go into those heavy traffic areas, which is now slowly beginning to claim the ships of lag spike victims. I almost lost a few myself. It is at this time that the issue of lag should supercede the fact that people can just "spread out" to ease the lag. People are losing hard earned assets now that are directly related to a server that has out grown its capacity.
This game rocks my socks...and as of late, will sell them to me too! But there comes a time when the most die-hard fan must get a grip and stop making excuses. This game is just too damn big for its server. (No hard feelings CCP, I am sure you are on it...) ________________________________________________ 0.0 Come fly with us... |

From one of the dev chats posted around a year ago its not really their server, its the way that they coded the game to assign threads to each server based on which one has the least amount of load stress

it took me 50 minutes to make 3-4 jumps..kinda hard to jump when you cant see the gate or you get popups messages saying you cant jump while undocking...i hadnt docked in 30 minutes. yep, so its kinda laggy you know, maybe even destroying every on his gaming expirience and hanging 15 minutes in space jumping from kemerk to yulai sucks.
So can you please fix this, so we know what were paying for? that would be cool, thanks in advance.

Anyone care to tell me how to avoid the market being down? Transactions not being completed?
And some of the worst affected systems has no resonable detours around them. We might need a new layer of roads around the big hubs. Again.
In general it sucks though, having to take gameplay decisions based on stuff like that. And having to know about it to take the right decisions...
Pretty sure they know they face a challenge and apparently a larger reworking of the code. But then they shouldnt rub it in by boasting about the number of active players.
Cause plainly it can't handle it atm. in peak hours. Trak Cranker |

Here is a exert from the dev blog i found. Im not expert with networking but sounds to me like its how they wrote the code. Quote from red button: Today however load balancing is based on preset factors. When new services are started (a user entering a solar system which no one else is using for example) the total load for each sol server is calculated from the number of services and their corresponding load factor and the sol server with the lowest factor accquires the new service. Unfortunately it also keeps it until nobody is using it any more. This has the unwanted side effect of ultimately collapsing that server if too many users are using the services it has assigned. This very seldom happens although we have occational hotspots of activity which may cause lag for some users while others are fine since they are not using services from that particular server.

ah well its still the #1 limiting factor of eve. This game would rock if you could have 100 v 100 ppl with the lag spread accross the whole game instead of one server

Reading that Blog it's evident that if you wish to avoid lag then get the hell out of the laggy sectors regardless of how many people there in local. You may find that a system 1 jump away is running on a different SOL and therefore has less lag. Hell that different system could be somewhere like Oursalaert, though I wouldn't reccomend it, Ours is criplling systems left right and centre atm. .+ (_) Fetch the holy hand grenade |

What you are experiencing is the combined load of high traffic systems, sometimes a highway system, with the associated market, manufacturing and research load combined. In other words, there is too much of core activity in the same systems.
The solution to this isn't pretty, but will be implemented alongside the New World Order where we both remove some highways in Empire and we will disperse a number of agents that are in the high traffic systems.
No, they won't be thrown into 0.0, but they will go into lower secs.
Now, before complaining about this movement of agents, consider this: You get higher rewards in lower security and you will have your agent in systems that have less load during peak hours. We are also adding refining services to all stations in Empire so there should be no risk of getting your agent sent to a refine-less station.
Stay tuned for blogs about all the major changes in the New World Order, they begin to surface when the details are nailed down over the next month or so.

That's very reassuring, Oveur. As we all known, low sec. space is safer than 0.0, and the chance of being ganked in a 0.4 system is lower than 0.0 ( anyone remember Aunenen a year ago, about this time?)

Aye, Oveur, it'll help me sleep better at night knowing that, after a NWO, I can lose my ship with mods that I've spent months on to acquire and, possibly, my implants (which are the only way to reduce the fuking boredom of waiting for a stupid 12+ day skill to complete, and even after a year, still have a buttload of them to train), to a gank squad camping an agent station. These increased rewards sure FAR outweigh the risk of that happening.

Oveur, I get stuck anywhere in Forge region, not only in high traffic systems. Yesterday Forge was down but Genesis was still running fine even if it had a few hundred people in Yulai and Kemerk. I got stuck in Reisen, where I was alone in the system, when attempting to use the market. Log back in, got the 0 skills bug. This never happened to me before the last patch (April 25th). How come a few hours after downtime every market is working fine with 10000 people logged in, while a few hours before downtime with just half the population everything falls apart? And I keep being told to wait for downtime, it will fix all the problems. I DONT WANT to wait for downtime, in my timezone after downtime is bedtime, if I want to do other things next day at work rather than sleep at my desk. Can we have at least 2 downtimes daily please so I can enjoy the game too?
