Originally by: Mar vel There are multiple problems here, folks. I repect a lot of the opinions given here - most of us know each other from one aspect of the game or another, and have discussed these in part or in total amongst ourselves for a long time.
1. CCP - time vs.isk rewards of owning operating a POS is pathetic.
Case in point:
Scenario a: I can spend 4 hours working 2 level 4 agents in the same station and make 100m between kills, drops and loot/minerals.
Scenario b: I can spend 4 hours moving consumables to a POS at a cost of xx isk (usually about the same price if buying materials)
The net/net of my expenditure (and this applies to Empire folks, not 0.0 POS, which is a completely different beast) - I might make 2x my expenses if I am mining or reacting the right stuff. But hen I have to check it all the time, and then either react it again or haul it.
SO the net/net is that I have a vastly elongated ROI that requires massive amounts of my playing time on a constant basis, as well as a huge capital outlay for equipment and materials and consumables.
Nope. not going to happen for this guy.
Here's a comparitive sketch of other isk-making activities:
1. Ice Mining: Large Barge, minimum 24 units per hour @ 140k pu. Gross Isk: 33.6m / hour Risk: 0 Investment (isk) 0
2. Ore Mining Gross isk: Risk: 0 Investment (isk) 0
3. Normal mining: Apoc / DCM2 Gross Isk: Risk: Investment: 0
4. Agent Runner: (pick a division) Estimated isk: DOE (mine is about 20m an hour) Risk: minor to moderate Investment: minimal, torps/drones
5. POS Estimated Isk: Uncalculated, market dependent, demand-oriented, and moon/reaction specific. Downside Risk: Destruction of POS, POS-equipment, haulers, vast manufacturing timeline. Investment: 300m per POS in equipment (minimum), 52m a week in consumables (buy all), reaction bp's, reactants (raws/advs), and component BP's, factory rental costs, labrotory rental costs, delivery costs, escrow costs, and cash flow issues of escrowing big orders and waiting to recoup investment. Fluctuating pricing, competition from other POS owners and their organsations/cartels, undercutting tactices, alliance/trade wars, a lack of access to critical moon materials (specifically Dys and Prom), and a very limited vetically integrated market possibilities due to general state of dysfunction in RA's and T2 BPO market.
Need I say more?
and btw, I own / operate 4 pos's successfully but prefer to do agent missions - more fun, more isk, less time investment. And that's a game and entertainment. Running POS (or multiple POS's) is just work, and I don;t need any more of that, tyvm.

Just like to point out you are a decimal point off. Large Mining Barge should be 3.36M per hour and not 33.6M per hour. If it were 33.6M per hour I would be like and mining ice all the time.
