it occured to me while flying a lvl 3 with a brutix again. 7 turret slots is great but i would love to get defender on, but lacking the missle slot again.
So basically the idea i got was that there should be a gun, working the same way as a defender missle. eg. like a gatling gun that shots the missles. The stats of that gun should be about the same as defender with rocket launchers. It would add a lot of variety to the game since you could choose either sacrificing a missle or a turret slot.
The only problem i see is the raven getting a real use of the 2 turret slots it has left so there sould be something done about that.
what do you think?

I would like to see them add this weapon since sort of sucks having to be forced to use a defender or SM to stop missile's but i do not think there gona add it any time soon.

This idea is suggested over and over. In fact, someone just suggested it five minutes ago... http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=175314

Why make it a gun though ? Why not just something like an ecm burst but then just anti missile ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

Edited by: Lord Sidious on 26/04/2005 22:58:12 I see that a lot about the defender gun, but the smart bombs are also an alternitive also for the missles. I doubt if they will ever do that.
Life is what you make of it just don't get in my way. |

Smartbombs arent really an alternative as in empire space they are about as effective in combat as setting your ships auto-destruct.

Not only are they suicide in empire, but they are cap and fitting hogs. A rocket launcher takes nothing to fit and uses almost no cap to fire. Give us a turret alternative. Hell, the US Navy have vulcan cannons that do this exact job. Sounds like a good name for the module too..."Vulcan Cannon".

We'll see what the missile overhaul (read: nerf) brings. I doubt we need more anti-missile defence after the next patch.
Besides, this isn't Dark Space y'know.

We already have a vulcan cannon, 220mm autocannons iirc. Anyway it would be nice to see some sort of integrated missile defence system, like hi-slot ecm or some kind of flares. Shooting missiles down/smartbombing them is a bit clumsy, and kind of unnecessary. I've always thought its a bit odd that eve never had some kind of passive missile defence, something which just makes a fraction of them miss/get scrambled.

How about a 'targeting re-programmer 1', like a burst but it has a % chance of turning round a few missles in range, and sending them back at the ship that launched them
Id pay good money to watch a raven killing itself with its own torps! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Smartbombs defending against missile spam is a total myth. It doesn't work! Even if the missile ship pilot activates all launchers at the same time so the missiles come in in waves, smartbombs will not kill every single incoming missile, because now missiles are fast enough to cross the AoE between cycles. Fitting enough bombs to sustain a missile shield of sorts will rob you of so much of your offensive capabilities that you can't kill anyone back. Maybe this did work when missiles were really slow, so people still believe smartbombs can create a good missile shield, but now that they are much faster it just doesn't...

Well instead of sending them back atleast make them fizz out or mess up their targeting computer. kind of like jamming the missile ~

I accept the fact that the smart bomb will not wipe out all inbound missiles, much in the same manner that one launcher with defenders will not wipe out all imbound missiles. The difference is in timing, range, cap, options for use, and fitting costs that really cause the missile tubes to really be far more effective. If anything, i would expect the fitting requirements to be reversed between smart bombs and missile tubes, if for nothing else just how plain useful they are. Personally i wouldnt mind a more reliable non-missile tube option method of flagging down a percentage of imbound missiles for ships that do not get the option to fit them and also have utility slots in their abscence. Having something on par with low end blasters or lasers with similar area coverage, would probably be appropriate. To be honest though, something like that would probably require a bit of coding and i doubt anything along those lines is going to be made anytime soon.
