Edited by: Kryzaan on 28/04/2005 20:45:22 I've been reading this thread with interest this afternoon as i thought it might provoke some interesting view points. however, it seems to have failed to provide in terms of explaining the way of thinking of people/corps/alliances in 0.0 space.
i have to say, i was and am still trying to fathom why on earth i would risk my hard earned isk / ores and equipment in 0.0 for an alliance. while reading through this thread, i checked a few links people provided and one of them was a link to the Stain forum where i was suprised to read about various rules and regulations a person or corp must conform to before they will even consider membership. ammusingly some of their own people even stated in this public thread on their forum that alot of the people and corps in their alliance didnt conform to these rules and regulations.
now, this is no slander on Stain. this is purely something i am trying to recount as a train of thought. i was trying to understand some issues and thoughts about things i had read over the last few days on these forums. fortunately or unfortunately, the Stain forum was the one that stuck in my mind. like i mentioned, this is of course in their public forum so anyone can go and read this for themselves.
firstly, people complain there are not enough people in 0.0 while alliances like Stain set up these rules and regulations about how only effectively the select few can and will be chosen to join them in their claimed terratory. this seems slightly self perpetuating in as much that the Alliances make it impossible to move around or join groups in 0.0 yet they complain there is no-one new there. i must be missing something because their rules seem to be their own worst enemies.
secondly, the "don't step on my property or die" slant that most Alliances take on their 'claimed' land/space seems a little..well... "cave-man-like" in as much that if we still did this in RL we would all be living in little secluded communes.
now i am not saying that everyone should be friends and travel freely in 0.0 cos that would kind defeat the PvP combat aspect buy surely there is no reason for a transport ship or something completely lacking in thread level to be attacked.
I am just going on what everyone says about 0.0 and am a relatively new player (1.2mill SP and not a great deal of cash) but i am hoping to provoke some interesting and constructive posts by this post. No unintelligent flames as seems the norm when 0.0 and PvP are mentioned.
Anyway, correct me if i am wrong (which i am sure plenty of you will do) but in my thinking, an Alliance has to offer me something not the other way round. They want me to rally to their cause yet they want me to offer stuff to them to consider me suitable to their alliance. This does seem backwards.
Like i said, these rules seemed a little archaic and backwards. Is this the same for all alliances? or is this a Stain thing or just an old rule that never took off. I would be interested to see 0.0 for myself sometime BUT there is a time and effort factor involved in getting the ships/isk/equipment and ore i currently own and it HAS to be worth while for me to risk everything i own in 0.0 for some alliance that want me to potentially fight for them.
So my question is WHY?
[EDIT: I just reread this post and so i ask you to excuse the disjointedness of the post. I was thinking as i typed so it jumps around abit. Plus the beers after work probably didnt help. Anyway, this is purely a post about trying to understand why things are the way they are. Slightly illogical in places (ermm... my thought patterns as well as apparently life in 0.0)]
