The "connection drop" feature in Monday's patch is HIGHLY annoying. I, like a lot of traders and manufacturers, often have the interface open for hours at a time with sporadic activity. To have the server close your connection after X minutes of no activity is HIGHLY annoying.
If I have to install an automated "thumper" to generate clicks to keep the connection open I will, but hopefully this change will be QUICKLY removed so this will be unnecessary.
Once again -- dropping the connection for lack of activity is EXTREMELY annoying -- please stop doing this immediately. _____________________________________________ I am motivated by various things, mostly ISK. |

Edited by: ManOfHonor on 29/04/2005 02:23:48 YOU are the reason this improvment was made if YOU are gona leave the comp sitting there, doing NOTHING you should be dropped
id say you should also be fined 10mil isk... but CCP woudlnt do that unfortunatly
its lame *******s like you who create lag by straining the servers, a inactive player in a stn gets just as much server priority as any other player
i dont want the servers wasting their power on some afk dumbass who cant stomach logging back in, which takes, [sarcasm] omfg 1-2 minutes [/sarcasm]
DROP THE AFKS

Maybe a better idea that might work for both sides, is possibly this.
I'm sure the server knows when you are docked in a station by coordinates. When it knows you are docked, give less priority or processing power to the person docked in the station, Afterall its not involving logging combat info, etc. I would imagine the server has less of a load on it when a person is docked provided they arent clicking every button under the station menu at the same time.
I could be wrong, but I would hope the server would have less to computate then if a person was doing a level4 mission or mining, npcing, etc. Besides the market and escrow using some power to pull up items from the database, the rest of the functions in station seem kind of simple compared to combat, mining/hauling etc.
Just my 2 cents. Love it, leave it, I dont really care!

This change does not protect against macro miners because the macro makes clicks and stuff.
I am not a miner, but obviously if you are a miner there are long periods of time where you are just drilling rock and not doing anything.
Also, traders and manufacturers sometimes just sit there and listen to the chat forums. Forcing these players to make mouse clicks to stay logged on is totally obnoxious.

I would say it drops you for having *no* activity (keyboard or mouse movement). No one sits for long periods of time in front of a computer and does nothing.
And unless you are going to support a subscription rise, CCP has to take measures to conserve resources for people who aren't AFK.
P.S. And it does nicely stop AFK Indy miners --------------------------------------------------

It's certainly not an inactivity timeout. I get the connection lost drop even in the middle of activating guns. No hint whatsoever of lag, just BAM, and connection lost. This started after the most recent patch and is causing me to drop upwards of 5-6 times a day now.

AFAIK CCP is having major node death issues ATM.That might be why.

I'm getting continuous 'connection lost's as well. Several times a day after the last patch.
Immediate reconnection is fine for a while, but it's getting very annoying.
