Well, looking at it from a production point of view, it is better that the weapon drops are more rare now. The pirate drop weapons pretty much killed the weapon production market. People would sell weapons cheaper than any production person could make them. Most people just got out of the weapons market all together.
As for pirate drops in general, it was really sick when you could kill pirates for 40-50k each, then sell the loot for millions later.

This still needs fixing heavy mods rarely dropped off blood arch engravers and dropped frequently off juggers. This was prepatch.
Now nothing drops but crapola.
Every pirate cruiser should drop at least 3 items. Every pirate killed of a certain pending on what the loot table is should havea percent chance of dropping depending on rarity.
I have a feeling what happened is things that dropped previously got switched with things that weren't for the most part and got fubared?

The Drop rates make much more sense now.
Bascically you have an incredibly low chance of getting the "very best" weapon, say a Prototype 250, but a more reasonable chance of getting a lower-spec version (eg a Scout 250 or a Compressed Coil) and so on down the line to standard guns.
What has ALSO changed si the "width" of the loot table - now the individual facctions dont just drop "their own brand" of item, but draw from their particular "type" of item (eg weapon).
Thus: Serpentis pirates (Cruisers) will now drop one of "any" of the types of hybrid blasters - but they won't drop railguns. A different "Corporation" drops those (and of any type).
This means that the actual number of items than any indivudal Cruiser can drop is FAR higher than previously.
The result is that you will get a much wider variety of drops but, on average, of a lower quality.
- - -
End result for those of us who speicalise in obtaining such items:
The "very very best" items are now incredibly rare. You might hunt for a week or more and not find one. Their value is far larger than previously.
We're now charging 7.5 - 10 million for a 250 prototype railgun. If you think that's a lot bear in mind that I can make that in 4 hours trading safely in empire space.
It took us 5 days of constant pirate hunting to get ONE - where we risked ships, items etc - not too mention getting them back to EMpire for sale AND having found where might drop them in the first place.
RARE now means RARE.
And that, imo, is good.

I hate to say this but the weapon and bp drops are not rare at at all... you are more likely to win the lottery than get a decent weapon now.
I'm still using bog standard market bought weapons because I've never seen a weapon that is any better than them.
Rare is good... but this is beyond rare.
Has anyone got a bp since the patch?

I never got a bp before the patch. I've also never met anybody i trust who has either.
AFAIK the idea that BPs were dropped by Cruisers went out with Beta and has never been in final.
If i'm wrong then i guess myself and my partner/Corp are the unluckiest people in the game - as we've killed literally thousands upon thousands of cruisers.
It's what we do for our "living".

Well my patience has finally paid off... I just managed to get a Heavy Anode Particle Beam... and I'm well chuffed...
I think rare is true... and when you finally do get the payoff it's a hell of a lot more rewarding.
Well that's me happy... but oh god... tomorrow is patch day! EEEK! -------------------------------------------

I don't think pirate cruisers have ever dropped BP's. I've killed literally hundreds from 20k-50k and not seen one BP. Only BP's I have seen drop came from spawn containers or an event (in beta).

The guns are dropping guys.
When CCP changed the loot tables i suspect they also changed not only the %drop rate but the actual pirate who drops it. The REALLY REALLY good stuff probably just comes off the 50k pirates and alot of them are damn hard 2 find.
That said i know that the guns are dropping b/c we have been picking up 250MM coil railguns sparodically since the patch

I totally agree with the tuning back of the drop rate for the high end gear. I do think it was turned back a bit much. I hav not seen a high end gun drop since the last patch. Please consider adjusting the drop rate upward just a bit.

Well directly after the patch yesterday I had 4 Juggs that didn't drop ANY loot whatsoever which was rather frustration. I just got crap single items at times too...
Then I went on in the middle of the night and lo and behold I get 3 heavy laser beam I's plus a heavy afocal beam I which wasnt too bad.
The loot is dropping but varies greatly with the time of day it seems... sometimes it's junksville and at others it's back to phat lewt time.
I've decided I'm going to keep a log of the loot I get and what is in the pirate group.
