I used to buy plexes for my account since almost a year, I have been very surprised about the rise of Plex prices which doesn't seem to stop and I made some quick research on Internet to look for players "feelings". I have been very surprised about the answers which can be resumed in few very simple words: Open market, players driven economy, Demand/supply.
To all those guys who belive in that I say: WAKE UP. The probably truth behind the price rise follows: NOTE: I say probably as I have no proofs but follow the argumentation, it's logic:
You know that: 1 month subscription is 14.95 Eur 1 plex (same subscription time) is 19.95 Eur
You can assume that: For CCP is better to sell a plex than have a one month subscription
and also that: More expensive is a plex more reasons players have for buying it
Than comes the self CCP question: How can I rise the plex price and make it more desiderable for players? Translated: How can I make more money?
I think you now know where it leads: 1- CCP buy PLexes on the market to rise theyr price 2- players buy more PLEXES to make quick isks 3- CCP makes more real money.
Who loose? All the non hardcore players who doens't want to pay for theyr account and cannot afford plexes anymore as they don't spend lot of theyr life in the game.
Who win? CCP and all those players who has real money to spend and not much time to rise isks (think about alliances or corps too).
What's the solution? Well, there always a solution but it is hard to be applied. 1- Stop buying PLEX 2- If you don't want to pay for subscription, freeze account (which is what I'll do till the PLEX price drops)
I am not suggesting a "revolution" but stop thinking EVE has a 100% player driven economy or an Open market, CCP may influence that and it happens (with skill books for examples).
Eve it's just a game.... For players Eve it's just a business.... For CCP |

Its actually a bigger difference for UK since they added in the GBP pricing.
1 month sub = -ú9.99 1 plex from eve site = -ú16.99 2 plex from Deep Space Supply (battleclinic) = $34.99 at current exchange (x0.624) = -ú21.84/2 = -ú10.92
Why oh why dont you just charge $ for everyone and let paypal/banks handle the exchange rates :( |

Came looking for conspiracy that CCP was deleting PLEX to raise prices and encourage more purchase. Left because it was the more generic call to arms to stop playing until PLEX prices drop. OP your absolutely right.
Ask yourself:
If you owned a online game company and you are able to purchase items off a player driven market with a account that you can create for free and use in-game currency that you can create for free, wouldnt you secretly buy large ammounts of plex in-game thus driving the prices up and forcing players who plex there accounts to either pay a sub or grind more in-game currency to afford plex.
You will never see any proof of this as it would destroy CCP's reputation and the current player base would leave faster than a child at a michael jackson charity event on the penn state campus.
If it smells like rose, feels like a rose and looks like a rose then it must be bull$hit.
Do you think CCP would do this? Hell yeah I would if I owned CCP DUH if you think this is some sort of tinfoil conspiracy then you rode the small bus too school. Open your eyes and think for yourself.

If your argument is true, why aren't they removing the 3-month, 6-month, 12-month subscription discounts? Those are even worse prices for them. Why are they offering unlimited (buy as many as you want) PLEX for $30 over Thanksgiving (and probably Christmas too)? Makes no sense.
I think you're seeing a lot more ISKs flying around, and attributing it to plex when in fact ships also cost more, everything costs more, and it's because they've nerfed bots that were mining and everyone's been running complexes for easy 100-200 million per day in bounties. There's lots of ISK around and not enough ships, minerals, etc.
ISK is devalued.
Prediction for you: with the changes to NPC AI, and the introduction of a mining ship, I believe trends are going to reverse. More minerals, less ISK from missions and rats. Minerals will come down in price, and plexes along with them. |

More players have more isk now a days = more players able to afford PLEX to pay monthly sub = more players paying sub with PLEX = higher demand for PLEX = higher price for PLEX.

Thing is, there's no plex rarity, it's not like even CCP could corner the market. They buy all of them we just put more up for sale. It's only $20 per, believe me, I would rather pay $20 than mine, mission, rat, or 0.01 ISK in Jita. Everything is a mind-numbing grind in-game, and I do have a job that lets me afford $20 per month.
Instead of making an alt or two to grind more ISK, it's easier to just keep the main subscribed, and buy plex for ISK for riches. |

You can still grab 600 mil ratting in drone regions (which holds no decent isk whatsoever) in 6 hours. Its still damn cheap to play on plex. |

Two problems with the CCP is buying their own PLEX theory: 1) You need proof. CCP buying enough PLEX to change the market would be shown in market statistics unless CCP is covering up that as well. 2) If CCP buys back their PLEX, they can't count that money as revenue because they didn't exchange goods and services so CCP would be shooting themselves in the foot.
Lastly, EVE is a competitive game. If everyone else makes more isk than you and can afford PLEX and you cannot then you lose. No one is going to rally around some guy who is failing at EVE and whining on the forums, HTFU. |

Doing this would probably cause significant inflation. I would imagine it's possible that the guys crunching economy numbers would notice something like this.
I'm not sure if it's out of the ordinary for a CCP employee to inject ISK onto a character. This would be required to accomplish this conspiracy. If it is, someone would probalby notice. Once someone notices its' only a matter of time before it's leaked.
Plex price manipulation by CCP?
Possible, but IMO, extremely unlikely. |

It is also full of r*e*t*a*r*d*e*d*.... Like you. I don't care about who makes more isks and/or if someone buys more plexes than me and/or if i can or can't afford Plexes. The reason of this post can be read CLEARLY, i am not hoping to see players to unsubscribe or not buying PLEX as it wouldn't affect my personal decisions. But I can understand for some idiots might be hard to understand the point. |

19.95 for a plex.
I pay 10.95 for a month. Why because I can budget.
PLEX is a way for people who can't afford 10.95 a month to play the game but at the cost of time.
As far as the prices. Well freedom of choice. People have to realize the price of Plex is entirely dependent on the number of people who are willing to pay 19.95 in RL cash for them to get ISK in return. That is NOT a bottomless well folks.
And coming to the forum and complaining that other people don't want to pay for your EVE subscription is well.......... EVERYBODY KNOWS |

Interesting read,
However, dude you can't post a thread with that... You nuts? CCP devs nowadays get bonus for closing threads, there's not much to do in coding so they roam the forum, never seen so many dev post/blocks as the last months, on top of that they have the emergency crew ISD... Don't see this thread alive for much longer, if they don't closed it I'll run for pope, I actually think they will delete it entirely, that or my post has got a sure death... |

The real reason plex prices rise is because of goons ofc, when CCP logs a big plex purchase, they monitor the account to see if it gets moved, then goons gank it.

It's "just before" an expansion. Looking at this from a statistical point of view, some characters with trillions of ISK, will be sat there trying to remain cool on top of candy mountain. They'll try anything to feel cool, otherwise they'd treat EVE as a game, instead of a new market, with *unsuspecting customers ingame* and *dangerous sharks that could topple them*.
All the locked threads seem to revolve around half-story questions until tonnes of answers flood in then the usual suspects get the batphone and the thread is locked. CCP will have read that thread, moderators only need to act/react when the forum rules are broken.
Imagine the following:
Corp A. doesn't like Incarna Corp A. posts on the forums that they don't like Incarna People shrug Corp A. unsubs.
Now try it this way:
Corp A. doesn't like Incarna Corp A. buys cheap PLEX using buy orders and "legit market manipulation" Corp A. posts on forums Corp A. sees some people agree and others don't Corp A. has tonnes of paid-for-by-plex alts Corp A. has a dialogue on paid-for-by-plex alts until a turning point Corp A. uses the forum troll account to lock the thread / invokes a circular argument to frustrate their opponent and he or she gets the thread locked. Someone gets bored and unsubs. Corp A. continues playing Corp A. sees controversy and this cycle rinses/repeats.
One of these affects CCP's customer base, Corp A. unsubbing alone doesn't Corp A. buys more plex from the market.
Not saying that's what is happening but its definitely more likely than CCP rigging ISK levels against PLEX, wallet transactions alone would indicate the point of purchase and point of sale.
If the PLEX price is unaffordable in ISK terms all other arguments re: balancing income fall over. It's likely a natural process of "feel big <-> push players out" move.
You can also see that in scenario 2, Corp A. needs *unsuspecting observer 90210* to join in the charade otherwise it fails.
A real truth or dare question would be: How long does it take to buy all the PLEX and relist for higher?
If you see a region with 8 buy orders and 1 sell order they've likely all been bought for a higher price than the buy order, which was marginally lower than the average sell order. Jita Central made that line of market domination possible.
No one is to blame here but the process of PLEX/ISK and it's a much more integrated/appealing process than RMT. Anyone notice that around the time these threads opened up Fanfest was announced proper? that also has a secondary affect on PLEX prices compared with the primary raise of plex prices for people to see the expansion. |

I agree that ISK is the problem but solving that has more to do with null sec being a field of blue than missions pumping out too much isk. Missions are pumping out at the same rate they have for quite some time now. The problem is that ships aren't disappearing at the same rate. NPC AI changes won't do anything to solve the problem. |

A thread came up a few weeks ago where the OP accused CCP of creating isk, buying PLEX off the market & then trashing them (Ironically, it was made just a few hours after Andski's post about what he would do with 1 trillion isk).
