I'm currently training up all my secondary Gunnery skills to level 5. I intend to do them all, except for Trajectory Analysis. I'm not sure if the additional 5% falloff bonus is worth the 24 days it would take me to train it. I use both long and short range guns. Anyone able to recommend it or tell me why it isn't worth it? -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

If you're an autocannon or blaster w***e it is, but only if there's nothing else you want to train. It would be better to train a battleship skill to 5, or heavy assault ships, than TA5.
If you're obsessive-compulsive like me, though, you need to train trajectory analysis (and indeed, all the skills in any given category) to level 5 to maintain order and sanity.
Don't bother for now, is what I say.

I did it.. don't regret it. If you have better things to train then just do them first? But you'll eventually get to it. _________________________________________________________

I can see how the extra fall-off would be nice but i can see other rank 5 skills i want first, heavy drones for example.

I would agree that its nice for all the guns whose falloff is greater than their optimal, but as was stated, there are alot of other skills that will be more usefull.
Really, how often do you try and fight beyond you optimal? Its nice to get longer hits, but 24 days is alot of other skills, and many more usefull. save it for a vacation or something after you have the skills you need.

Depends what guns you using. With projectiles (howitzer) then the falloff will be god to have. As projectile user you will rely more on falloff than optimal. Is all about the poor tracking on those guns.
So itĘs all depends on the guns you will use.

this training provides some terrible value for the time involved. however, if you want to be perfect gunner it's necessary. -------

It is worth it, if you have the patience or the desire to prelong the patience for such a level, but before you do such a level, it is at best, to have all other skills to level 4, before you are prepare to commit yourself to such a long traning period.
Afterall, a level 5 is only necessary right away, if you need to train to a higher skill that requires level 5 of that skill, but otherwise, train a little now, and a little less afterwards.

My character is specialised in combat and as such eventually I ran out of useful skills to get to level 5 so eventually trained it up to 5. I'm still sat here wondering wtf to train next when all useful combat skills are already trained to 5, more combat skills please CCP! __________________

The inherent paradox to training so many skills to V is the fact that clones become VERY expensive.

No matter what you train the cost of the clone goes up.. _________________________________________________________

I'm at the same position, as a Gal specialist with all t2 specialisation at lvl 4... this skill is slowing creeping towards the top of the queue... but it takes so long to train for the increase in falloff.
has anyone actually noticed the difference since training.

Drone Interfacing 5? Heavy Drone Operation 5? XXXX Drone spec?
Engineering skills? Navigation skills?
Quite a few things ahead of that yet. ------

As a purist I would am of the same opinion as Selim.
First do learning of course...
Then pick a group and clean it up, everything on level 5 will surprize people when they are shooting at you. I have had HAC pilots going I thought I had a good damage dealing setup but your BC just takes it whille sitting still in space.
Of course you will sometimes have to take a time out and go for other skills to an acceptable level to use these new guns or to compensate for CCP dropping the nerf bat on your setup.
The missile skills are a intresting thing, before patch having torpedos at lvl5 make people go . Now they are looking a people that have their torpedo specialization at lvl 5 the same way. I say let them laugh let them all laugh some day when CCP decides torpedos are still doing more damage than they should then I'll be the one laughing
