Short and simple...do you think canflipping in high sec as a whole will dwindle or eventually stop now that they'll be aggressed to everyone when they do it? Canflipping is a form of PvP that many new players experiment with in their first days. Curious about what the fine folks here on the forums think about how it will change with the new crime system. |

It will happen in modest population centers. I suspect it'll decrease drastically in high population centers though. Jita undock will probably change a bit. |

can flipping? hah, 2011 called, they want their jetcan mining back. they said they'll give you a retriever as payment. Reading my posts is like panning for gold; most it will be useless, but occasionally you'll find a nugget of gold. |

I'd guess most canflippers aren't new players trying it out, but old players trying it out on new players.

Am I alone in thinking that crimewatch will lead to a revival of can-flipping? Flip a can, get a whole system chasing you around, bait highsec warriors into shooting at you, then kill them. Kill all their friends too, then when things get too hot, head for a safe place to wait out the timer, then head for another system and repeat. Am I misunderstanding the mechanic somehow? Because that sounds like fun to me. |

Can flipping, you mean people are still mining with cans ??????
As long as someone uses a can for mining someone will see it as an opportunity.
Who was it that was doing all that bumping junk. IF people are wasting there time on that you think they won't can flip ?
Drop a can and they will come EVERYBODY KNOWS |

Its not that can flippers will flag red to everyone as "suspect". The real fun is that as soon as you loot anything in hisec that is not yours, you as a suspect will immediately incur security status penalty upon looting. So after, lets say, you loot anything 20-30 times in hi sec, you will be concordoken because your security status will drop to negative. In essence, hi sec becomes safer(thats the CCPs intention.)
And i like it, lets force all can flippers to rat for 2 hours to make up for the sec status loss every time they loot someone elses container in hi sec. LOL. Gotta love CCP punishing thief's immediately when they loot so i can laugh at them. In essence, if you want to stay in hisec, you better not touch any containers that are not yours or no hi sec for you. :) Finally i can mine in peace.
to quote patch notes:
Quote: Security status
The way that security status penalties are applied for illegal attacks has changed. The penalty is now applied for any aggressive action that results in a Criminal or Suspect flag at the point that the first action occurs. (Previously a small penalty was applied upon the initial action, and then a larger penalty if the victim was killed without retaliation). Criminal actions will give a larger penalty than Suspect actions. The penalty is modified based on the security-level of the location, and the difference in security status of the attacker and defender. |

This is going to be huge fun for those that love to mess with miners and their precious ore, which they have so cruely stuffed away into a cold, dark, and lonely container out in space. Don't worry scordite, I shall be your savior. Having the whole system chasing you is going to be a blast as well And no, there is no sec hit for taking from cans. That would be a terrible idea |

I always use jetcans when mining because i don't care about the isk that much, and people still can flip me often enough even though i'm an older character.
Then I tell them to consider it a donation in local and they get mad about it. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

Canflipping is exactly what I did as a newbie to learn how to blow up spaceships. Also while administering another corp we used canflipping as a way to teach our newbies how to fly their spaceships independently, in order to canflip successfully and actually get kills and not get blown up you had to be able to do a bunch of different stuff that is legitimately useful as you progress in the game. Things like actually knowing what you are capable of beating in a fight in any given ship, being able to estimate how a ship is fitted based on visible turrets and effects as well as how important it is to look much weaker than you actually are if you want to actually make a fight happen.
In my personal experience the actual people flipping cans was pretty much a 50-50 split between newer players trying to do some non-consensual PVP in highsec and somewhat older players doing the same thing. The age of the people targeted isn't really a factor, because even the highest end mining ships have traditionally been pretty trivial to kill in a T1 frig with 3 million SP and if you're a high SP character you would more likely be aiming for a group of miners with a bunch of corpmates in system so you could escalate the fight.
But hey people don't seem to be interested in the actual reality of what people do in the game and would rather baselessly suppose that all canflipping is done by 50 million SP characters in their faction battleships against rookie players in starter systems so obviously it is bad and shouldn't be in the game. |

Since the hilarious mackinaw over-buff, can flipping miners isn't really a thing any more.
This will affect the really high population trade/mission centers though. Basically kills arranged 1v1s and mission trolling. |
