As earlier reported the New York Museum of Modern Art has acquired EVE Online as part of its permanent collection.
We will capture one day of life in New Eden on video and present it as part of this exhibition that would play acrosss two large screens. This video will also show gameplay videos recorded by you!
Yes, you have the chance to get part of your video and your EVE life presented to millions of visitors at the Museum of Modern Art!
Read all about this incredible opportunity in CCP t0rfifrans' devblog here. CCP Phantom - German Community Coordinator |

DaiTengu wrote:Does the video have to be captured on December 9th?
(I'm asking this now, because I know someone else will if I don't) Yes, preferably. The concept is that this shows a slice of EVE, one day thick. Otherwise we would use various existing player videos that are online already. By having it captured on Sunday, Dec, 9th, we can intercut several videos from different perspectives, both in the same solarsystem or different parts of the universe. It also allows us to show infographics of the same events or a collection events, using the backend data we will capture the same day. |

Kemeton wrote:Will there be a screen at the museum that show EVE statistics that update in real time?
Getting statistics on the core features of the game. Destroying ships, the market and item manufacturing.
Lets say a screen that shows: - Number of ships destroyed in the past hour or 10 minutes and the ISK value of them. - Number of market transactions in the past minute and amount of ISK changing hands in thoes transactions. - Number of items being built by players. - Number of EVEmails being sent in the past 10 minutes. - Number of characters online (obviously).
We did consider it, but being that the exhibit is up for 11 months, and we couldn't ensure uptime ( expansions, patches and other downtime ) we opted for a perfectly pre-cooked exhibit that will aim to show the metrics you list, but for that date, rather than in real time. |

Also... It doesn't say for how long it will feature? It says it start March 2013, but that's it. You see, I happen to be moving to New York on May 1st, so could be real damn fun to go watch it. :-)
/Besbin It closes end of Jan 2014, so you should have ample time to go see it! |

It's only a temporary exhibit? I got the impression it was permanent The exhibit is temporary, for 11 months, but EVE is being acquired into the permanent collection. Things like the original box, running code etc, will be stored in some underground vault deep below Manhattan. |

There is a thread on reddit on the same topic, I wrote a reply there to this question:
It would be best to have the ingame music and other music turned off, since many videos may be shown together.
Having your comms would be great, since we're trying to communicate the fact that EVE is massively social science fiction simulator, where the world and its story is mostly written by its players.
In general, short, unedited clips would be better, since we're trying to portray what actually happened from the player's point of view. However, if you have great video editing and production skills and experience with making ingame videos and using advanced camera moves, then by all means go for it, just be ready to have your "baby" chopped up on the editing board, as it is mixed or placed side by side to other videos, player made and CCP made.
Thanks!

By sending the URL to CCP you are giving CCP a license to use your material and forfeiting copyright, so CCP is in no way obliged to compensate you for using the video in the exhibit. They even forfeit the copyright... wow. Youtube hosting the **** doesn't even do that. Hell in most of the world this isn't binding at all. Hell a corporation without exhaustive copyright handling legalese in the employment contract often doesn't have the power to take the copyright as much as they want. Furthermore you are trapped in an authenticity disaster. If sending a link is all it takes for you to take the copyright. What if I were to send in Farjung's videos. Are they urs now? Well, I said it was evil.
Basically what it means is that you are agreeing that we can use the video in our video. |

"Rather than having a PC simply running EVE somewhere in the corner with a keyboard and mouse and risk the untrained audience spending their time angrily trying to open the door in the captainGÇÿs quarters or being serial suicide ganked in Jita"
Doesn't this say something about the game that deserves being looked into? I mean, as a game company, if you acknowledge that these are in fact negative aspects of the game experience, shouldn't there be some internal commitment to correct them?
Foo Well, they have the same challenge with Dwarf Fortress. Now that's a game even more hard to get into. It should we noted, we have a full team dedicated to improving the usability and player experience, and they are doing a good job, IMHO. Still, even if it was all great and streamlined, you wouldn-¦t be able to get to grips and understand the depth of the EVE Universe in a hands on demo lasting 2-3 minutes. Plus people at museums are shy, the only people that engage in the interactive pieces are geeks and children, who have no fear of technology. |

One more thing to mention, I was asked of this outside this forum: The last day to submit your captured video is Dec 31st. After that date, the videos have gone into post-production offsite and we can't commit to your submissions being part of the source material used if they arrive later. Plus by then the Mayan Apocalypse is done, so it may as well be best to get the videos finished before that takes place. |

By the way, is there a need to record sound? I seem to have gotten it into my head that the exhibitions won't have audio and that I can cut down on the filesize/listen to my own music as I record gameplay. yes please, keep sound in there, but keep music volume to 0, as we will add music to it. It will be up to the person doing the edits how much original sound he uses, but having the source gives him a better choice.
Thanks!!

Hey everyone, I'd like to extend our deepest thanks to all those that took part in today's capture.
There are already lots of cool videos that have been uploaded to the CCP Archivist mailbox. Tonight, three of us from CCP roamed around in cloaked ships and recorded some amazing fights and views around the universe. There are probably more people yet to upload their submissions, but from what we have so far, it's been great.
Thanks for your help to capture this moment!
