Hey fellow Trek fans! First up, can I just ask people to steer clear of the nationalist talk, it never ends well and ruins many a good thread, thank you.
Now to be on topic, take a look at these two pictures:

Alice Eve as "Unnamed Character"
I don't think its a stretch to imagine that Eve's character is Dr Elizabeth Dehner, albeit a retconned version. And lets face it, though many people would be OK with seeing Khan re-imagined, it does not fit with any of the facts released thus far by Paramount. The description released by them for the movie clearly states that Starfleet and Earth are threatened from within Starfleet itself.
Khan was never a part of Starfleet and, clever though he was, even in the original TV series and Movies he was never able to do more than attack from the outside. And while he was also undoubtedly dangerous, Khan was never considered a "One-man weapon" by anyone. He was a leader of men, not a solo killing machine.
Mitchell on the other hand would be perfectly capable of doing precisely these things; from infiltrating Starfleet, to going on a revenge fuelled spree of destruction. He has plenty of reasons (in his own mind) to hate Starfleet and James Kirk, and with his new abilities he would be more than capable of wreaking massive amounts of destruction. Consider his powers:
- Hypercognition
- Conscious regulation of autonomic reflexes
- Telepathy
- Extrasensory perception of various kinds, including clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairoratory
- Telekinesis
- The ability to control energy, including both its directed use as a weapon against other organisms, and an invulnerability to Phaser fire
- The ability to manipulate matter, including the instant materialization and dematerialization of both organisms and objects
That gets him into Starfleet headquarters, the ability to re-program peoples thoughts, create weapons out of thin air and be able to withstand weapons fire. Pretty handy if you plan on destroying a whole planet in a fit of bare-fisted rage, don't you think?
