Sieben Sevenson	Posted - 2005.05.07 16:56:00 - [1] As I look at the proposed changes for Level 4 missions, I'm beginning to think I might need a new challenge. Solo-ing Level 3's in an Apoc are just too easy (you know it's bad when you're gimping your setup to see if it makes it more interesting - turn off the hardeners, offline a repper and only use 4 highslots ) I know people will say "group for level 4's", well it's not always possible so I'm looking at alternatives. I'm guessing that a HAC will also have the same problem; warp in, shoot everything, wander out; so thought an AF would be an interesting choice. So, are Level 3's possible (but hard) in an AF, and which would you recommend? I'm leaning towards a Wolf at the mo, as I like the rifter, but as I have most of the pre-requisites, it's only a fews days difference in training for any of them.

StringBean	Posted - 2005.05.07 18:13:00 - [3] AF's are fun and i'm sure u can do most lvl 3 missions in them, hell ive nearly cleared out a 4/10 complex in a retribution on my own, although i didnt get to kill the 1.5mil bs at the last stage :( but fun none the less :D

babylonstew	Posted - 2005.05.07 19:01:00 - [6] can do all lvl 3 caldari navy missions in a harpy no sweat, its too easy to be honest. that does incude the odd sabotage the supply ines (bloods) and angel extrav to so in short, yes more than possible (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Question2	Posted - 2005.05.07 20:42:00 - [7] Level 4s are perfectly soloable with decent skills.Apoc,raven,mega........ive heard tempest has a hard time doing it though. It also helps if you go for easy NPCs like guristas.Stay away from angels.Far,far away.
WhiteTiger	Posted - 2005.05.07 20:49:00 - [8] Yes you can do them pretty easy if you match the natural tank of the AF to the damage the NPC do for example - Harpy/Hawk/Enyo/Ishkur are great against gurista and serpentis. The only bad part is that unless you have insane skills the damage output is lower than some of the bigger ships so the mission will take longer.
Esrevatem Dlareme	Posted - 2005.05.07 21:50:00 - [9] I've done lvl 3 Angel Surprize twice in my Enyo, and it does the most damage to me by far. Lots of missiles, and the frigs do a little explosive damage, which the Enyo is naturally weak against. The first time, I beat it by using two hardeners. Second time, I'd forgotten hardeners, so I loaded on a rocket launcher with defenders and used that to block a large portion of the missiles, which bought me enough time to whack all the frigs, which are the main threat, secondary threat is any cruiser shooting heavies, and then everything else after that. That's the only lvl 3 mission that really made me sweat so far. Haven't tried lvl 4's in it... ______________________________________________ As I stand, dazzled by the shattered twilight, I think back... I think back to all the events that have brought me here. And I realize... I realize I was ment to come here. Someone wanted me to come here. And now, I have come here.

N1fty	Posted - 2005.05.08 01:18:00 - [11] I do most of my level 3 missions in a Retribution, i find its faster and more entertaining than doing them in a BC or BS. I run tech 2 medium pulse lasers, tech 2 ab, small tech 2 repper, thermal hardner, tech 2 tracking enhancer, and 2 cap power relays. Im hoping i can squeeze a micro smartbomb on when my skills improve. First i take out any frigates i see while blasting about with the AB on. Speed is this ships best defence, its resistances is secondary. Webbers get extra special attention obviously. Then its a simple matter of orbiting the cruisers at about 5K and blasting them with multifreqs, the tracking enhancer ensuring you get those hits in even though your transversal velocity is over 500. I would avoid any missions involving NPC missile spamming, this is the kiss of death for your ship as it negates its speed advantage. A few missiles is fine, a dozen spammers is not fun. If i had the smartbomb on i could cope with missiles much better. ................. stellarwolf	Posted - 2005.05.08 12:23:00 - [12] hi, I manage most lvl3 missions with my wolf. With just over 8 millions skill points I find it really challenging and fun. As some of the other contributors to this post mentioned, it is imperative that you fit it carefully. Armor hardeners are a good thing, the performance of assault ships for this time of missions seems to be primarily limited by their ability to sustain damage rather than their ability to cause damage. At least that is what I experienced as I use tech2 guns and find it easy to take on any of the rats provided thay are in small enough groups. On the other hand I sometimes find it difficult to take on larger groups especially when they are backed by sentries. In such conditions I sustain more damage than I inflict. In other words I find it is also a question of tactics... I personally isolate smaller groups or targets...hit, destroy and run as soon as my ship has sustained too much damage. Alternatively I use a BC when I want to chain missions quickly. To complete some of the lvl3 missions with an assault frigate can be time consumming! I hope it helps. Stellarwolf

Nikita Fontaine	Posted - 2005.05.09 10:39:00 - [15] Currently im using harpy for lv 3 missions but its getting too easy now, havent tried lv 4 yet though. done some hunting of 500k npc scorp battleships which arent too difficult to kill. done the 4/10 serp complex, couldnt break the 2.5 mill megatrons tank tho - was over a month ago, skills are better so may be able to now. Currently working on a setup that will allow me to tank raven npc's...
Gary Goat	Posted - 2005.05.09 10:57:00 - [16] If you want a challenge try a cruiser. I used to do all my lvl 3 missions in a blasterax and i can tell u that was fun. Angels suprise was always a bit hairy at times but nothin can scramble u in lvl 3's so u can just warp away before you blow up. Then i got an enyo and could do the lvl 3's about 3 times faster and 3 times easier then in a thorax I think i'll use a thorax again if i ever go back to lvl 3's.

Anyone who has a hard time using a Tempest for it just needs to train up their skills a little Just bear in mind with upcoming changes to level 4 missions that they will be a lot harder to solo.
