The purpose of the extra engine is simply to act as the "upkeep" engine when the cruising speed as been attained. Same system as older russian transport planes.
Main engines provide the oomph and the top engine provides improved fuel effiency in travel flight. This is simply thanks the different configuration of the upkeep engine unit. |
