dont think we're geting a bad deal due to down time and patches.... its lunch time anyway... actually i think this game is the most euro player friendly i ever found, and am just LOVIN IT :)
the only thing that is annoying is the euro/dolar exchange rate as most games have the same amount without considering that the euro is higher value than the dolar, so european players get a worse deal, and thats just nasty

Thats because we have to pay VAT, but that's another thread.

stop complaining about the Euro/Us exchange rate it's not that bad. Look at the Canadian/us exchange rate.
Now us canadians are truely geting hit in terms of price.

DT is bad for Europlayers? Talk about some people never being happy.
For euro players dt is lunch time. How much more perfect do you want it? I live in the UK so during winter it's 11am to 12pm but right now at 12 'till 1 it's excellent. Plus of course I'm at work during the week. As for patch day..usually I get home from work and the server has been back up an hour and has settled down.
If you think Euro players get a raw deal you should talk to the Asian or Australian segment -- (Battle hardened miner)

Actually it's not, because CCP is over-sensitive to political correctness. Believe me, I'd love a chance to ridicule Democratic Socialists.

No matter when you schedule downtime, someone will be impacted.
I think the point is, why after 2 yrs live is there still a need for daily downtime? Granted I haven't played all that many MMOs, but isn't it rather strange to do this? Monthly or at most weekly I can understand. But daily just seems to me to say that there's a fundamental design flaw.

Edited by: Hotice on 09/05/2005 20:08:04 There is no "Right" time for a mmog with players from all over the world. Just have to deal with it that is all. Even for those who are from US, there are people who play during early morning. So the DT also effect them as well. Nobody is getting a bad deal here. It is the norm for anything related to computer. When it needs reboot, you just have to do it.

I live in europe and have no probs with the downtime.
It's during lunchtime
but I could imagine that when a patch is deployed it's like 6 hours instat of 1 hour and most of the time after the server has started up the server crashes again and after 3 restarts you can finnally play again

So euro players get DT and patch deployments big deal. You guys also get all the major events. Like this last titan event, I doubt you'd see any euro player complaining that they got to do this at the perfect time while US players had to watch on the sidelines or race home was fast as possible to try to get in on it. I think DT and patches are a small price to play to get to have that kind of fun going on during normal play times. But hey thats just me.

DT from 9-10pm is brilliant and I wouldn't have it any other way..
How else could I spend an hour with the girlfriend and for her to believe I'm giving up playing "that damn game", it's great for brownie points

DING DING DING! We have a winner!
This is the only MMORPG, I have seen, that needs a daily downtime.
I think it was explained to me that having asteroids appear in space would detriment the immersion factor. Instead, to be more immersive, the universe stops existing for an hour while little men run out and rearrance the asteroid belts, then time catches up.. Or was that a Twilight Zone episode?

Heh this is also the first MMO that has 10k plus systems, and avg 12k people on same server. This isnt any other trash MMO like eq with 100+ zones and just *cough* reboots *cough* when it wants too. Go check out CCP's server's they cool. ( but Mutable Realms was WAYYYY cooler RIP WISH Alpha - beta 4) KEY WORD "was" And it isnt the Little green men putting out the new roids, Its the Gremblins .......... < insert eerie sound here >

It doesnt have zones eh? Then I suppose these "Jump Gates" arent loading another zone when you go through them.. Surely these non-zones arent hosted on other machines in the same farm either, they must be on one big machine..

hmm so we don't all log onto the same TQ then????
i believe he means EVE isn't sharded like every other MMO.
also you are on about nodes which all talk to each other or non nodes as you might say
Try again and put a little more research in .........
EDIT - Nodes control more than 1 system, so the jump gate reference is completly wrong

Edited by: Confession Time on 10/05/2005 00:25:11 Lol and another that cant read. NOWHERE did i say we dont have zones. I DID say we have 10k plus systems. ALOT more than other "multi server games". To clarify that further, You know when ya have to ask someone what server they play on? We dont need to. And Like DUH of copurse they dont use 1 proc per system, im sure they have 1 running 2 or 3 prolly running more in less used systems, like say 00? Without DT server would fudge up real fast.. Now go back to gate camping .... ...Bless me Father, for i have sinned.... BIG _______ TIME!!! Saving your soul, One confession at a time, will blackmail you later |

Oh ok, I get it.. Since there are 10K+ zones and 12K+ players, this is why they need to take the whole thing down once a day..
That makes more sense then.

lol. Most mmog's have daily downtime, it is just that Eve's is planned. ______________________________________________

WoW is sharded and they still reboot regularly. They just don't announce it before they do. Same with MxO. Granted that game is still young but still there are regular reboots because of server hickups. And that game is sharded aswell.
Please. Do your homework. Also if one or two hours a day are such an issue for you then you should start thinking about your priorities in life. If you're living in europe you should actually be working during downtime or do something productive elsewhere. If you're an aussie it looks different. I can see where they're coming from as the DT is really at a bad time for them.

To be accurate, the max is 12k, the avg is about 6.5k (over the past month according to Eve-I's statistics). Yes, I'm impressed with the single universe and the maximum number of connections. However, it's also true that Eve's ability to put hard and static zones around solar systems makes the implementation way easier than what "world-based" MMOs (like Wish) have tried to do.
Having an MMO go down daily because of bugs is bad programming. But most bugs can be fixed.
Having an MMO need to go down daily for maintenance is bad design. Fundamental design limitations are usually harder to correct.
