Hi All,
I posted on my blog a little while ago an idea I had rattling around for some time about how to balance the black ops BS in terms of giving it a niche in combat. The post in full can be found here, and holds much more detail that what I will post here. I will try to summarize my thoughts in a TL;DR form the forums below.
First and foremost we would need to modify the Black Ops Battleship (BOBS) to function much similar to their distant relatives the Stealth bomber (i.e. warp cloaked). Next we give them a unique bomb launcher which is in essence a magnified version of the SB bomb. However this version (which I will refer to as a Super-Heavy Bomb or S-HB) through some wizardry with the explosion radius & speed will do very little damage to anything smaller than 3000m (sig radius) and faster than 100m/s (speed). Finally for an extra twist (and I feel this part is somewhat optional), the S-HB can be target and destroyed by ships (if they have a sensor strength high enough to target it during its 40 second travel time. You would need multiple BOBS to take down a single Capital (say 4), and very high numbers (say 10) to kill a super cap.
If your up on your ship types you can likely see where I am heading with this one. The idea is that the BOBS can use the S-HB to perform hit and run tactics on Capital and Super Capital Class ships forcing them to bring sub capital support to target and destroy either the bombers or the bombs. Used en-mass BOBS can cause massive amounts of damage to Capital Assets, however the skill-level and cost associated with them, coupled with their vulnerability to sub capital ships (Id expect a BS pilot with a single SEBO to be able to lock a BOB before it could re-cloak) should keep them in check balance wise.
tl;dr of the tl;dr Anti capital bombs, vulnerable to other sub caps lethal to un escorted capitals.
Final note: yes I have posted on an alt; because I would rather you read the above before jumping to and conclusions about. You can easily find my main by clicking on the blog link and doing only level 1 stalking.
Flame away ;)
Thanks,
Hark (oops)

Yes there was a comment in fanfest on this subject of bombs on black ops it would make sense to add something like this to them as atm they are a little lacking they can't even warp cloaked they certainly need more special abilities. Wouldn't it be too much to allow BOBs to fit covert ops cloaks? They would be the ultimate ganking ships. |

Not if fitting the cov-ops cloak allowes you to only fit the Super-Heavy Bomb launcher and maybe small guns.

It would certainly add a interesting dimension to supper cap blobs if the black-ops bombs had the same 30 km explosion radius as normal bombs but being able to wipe out a 30 man supper blob with only 10 people might be a bit over powered.
What about if it was only able to damage up to 2 or 3 ships at once (to steal a term from a book i'm reading at the mo) when it detonates it fires out some "bomb pumped lasers" to hit the closet 2 or 3 suppers that way even if you have 10 - 15 people all bombing at once unless you are all lined up on the same target or small group of targets it's not a guaranteed kill but could severely damage the target so that your support fleet could finish it off without need 100 people |

T2 BS hulls like BlOps and Marauders just don't seem cut out for front line action. The T1 hulls are just overwhelmingly more practical. Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. Also, you can't stop moving in the game. Just add in a way so every ten minutes you are randomly warped to the nearest other player. Keeps people from going AFK. |

Black ops ships being able to fit 1-3 bombs makes sense to me. Also on the matter of covert ops cloaks just increase the fitting requirements of them on black ops ships. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=174097 Separate all 4 empires in eve with lowsec. |

Not sure I'd want to do a bombing run in a 1bn isk, slow ship. However; looking forward to whatever the blops rebalance is. |
