Another EVE Community Spotlight is ready for you!
This time we would like to introduce you to the exciting world of lotteries in EVE Online. You can win riches (or lose them), you might want to play some of the lotteries just on the side outside the EVE client or you might want to go all or you might think it would be better to stay away from gambling - the choice is yours! But whatever you decide, this Spotlight features one of the most prominent lotteries in EVE Online. As a reminder, you are only allowed to gamble with in-game money for in-game items (or in-game money).
The tenth Spotlight is about SOMER blink.
Read more about SOMER blink in the Community Spotlight here. CCP Phantom - German Community Coordinator |

I don't get why everyone thinks Somer Blink is a scam - yes you get less out then you put in (on average of course) but that's the whole point. I've won stuff on Somer Blink but ultimately lost more than I put in - exactly as anyone should expect when gambling, there is no deception here. |

If you have something that affects a large part of the EVE community, is active already for a good amount of time and has received a lot of good feedback from the community, then chances are not bad that you will hear sooner or later from us.
We are not saying that SOMER blink is a scam or that SOMER blink is legit, however, we state that SOMER blink is an interesting initiative from within the EVE community that it is well received over the years.
If someone would invest that much time and energy to pull off a scam and is still going strong, well, then this would be quite an awesome story in itself and would deserve some spotlight. So, regardless if SOMER blink is a scam or not, the effort and energy put into this initiative together with the reception from within the EVE community fully justifies this broadened attention.
The EVE community is sparkling with interesting projects run by passionate and dedicate player and I am really happy about this fact. The more everyone knows about all these projects, the better it is in my opinion.
Maybe you can be the next SOMER blink?

Do you refer to Blink's boss as a "she" just because the character is female, or is the player really a woman? (Of course this may simply be unknown.)
I refer to every EVE player as a "he" regardless of character sex, until further evidence . |

From the Devblog:
"According to Somerset, some of the lottery earnings are used to reward the staff for their great work, but quite a bit is also used to support the EVE Community. It speaks to itself that this support is usually done in the background and without big trumpet sounds, but we would like to mention here at least a recent donation to New Eden Open tournament teams."
Given blink is a self-sustaining enterprise, it is safe to say that in this context "quite a bit" is actually smaller than "some". However Somerset is trying to equivocate by using the word "some" instead of "most", and the repetition in the printed article is deplorable.
I think the second sentence in this paragraph is completely misleading. There is no value being given out to the community the vast majority of the time from blink. Assuming the existence of "unreported" support is not supported by any sort of inductive reasoning. This "unreported" support might as well be payments to alts on blink affiliated accounts.
All players will lose ISK playing blink in the long run, the convergence of the game is to a negative income for players. Any winners are beneficiaries of short term variance and even they will lose in the long run. |

on any single character, but there are individuals who will spread their wealth to different accounts or even keep it in assets. Worth can be non-liquid, which wouldn't come up as readily in a statistic :D

Good way to blow 3 billion ISK while cycling through 64 billion ISK apparently. Lost it all; not happy about it, but that's the way it goes I guess.
Regarding legit: Not likely. If the way the numbers run and players consistently pick 1 ticket and win while other players pick 4 out of 8 or more and lose to them, I'm guessing it's rigged and admins are handing ISK to alts or friends. That must be the rewarding part.
No guarantee of course, and it could be hacked. I refreshed finished blinks multiple times with no winner appearing, and then finally, it selects one. Sometimes takes as much as 30 seconds. Then there is the click and nothing happens, click and it bumps and you've just bought a 200 million ISK ticket for something else, or click and click and nothing, then click and the ticket is bought, then the ticket wins..
I did well to start, and I think probably everybody does while they are initially winning and cycling ISK back in, until they've determined they have you interested, and then you start to lose everything in excess of the odd Battle Cruiser draw, here and there Frigate draws, and very rarely Battleship, Cruiser, or random draw of relatively limited value.
My first run at it, I had 3 Moros and 2-3 Rorquals inside of 8 hours, gained and lost 10 billion, gained it again, and then steadily lost every last ISK after that. Couldn't even stay at even with small draws, but watched it disappear in little and sometimes large trickles, even when you'd think a win was almost a certainty with 6 out of 8 tickets just to test at the system.
Tried multiple strategies, from quick blinks of random tickets up to 50-60% of value, to straight runs of roughly the same value, and lost almost every draw that was worth anything at all.
<500k ISK left, some tokens, and a bonk or two.. 3 billion in 2 days.
enjoyable? ..not really, especially as they make you bet to cash out, so you can't just realize you're getting screwed and leave with what you have left. Well, if you're lucky you can cycle the draws and build up a bunch of ships to cash out on, but it seems likely that you'll end up with a lot less than you started with.
My advice? If you want to try it, put your ISK in and expect to lose it. You might have fun that way, but I doubt it as most people don't have much fun losing. If you get ahead right off, try banking the ships to pull out asap, because chances are it's just to suck you in. If you bank them though, they'll probably just pull the plug and get their guys in on the bets so they can redirect the winnings if that happens to be what they are doing.
..and why not, a real gambling site is almost famous for doing the same, with one of their admins feeding a fake player winnings. The precedent is already set; it's been done, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least given my recent experience.

case and point : look at the winners of the blinks. they always are the ones with 20 and 30k entry tickets (at 1m to 1 ticket and 5 tickets needed for one entry) and there is SUPPOSED to be a redraw for repeat winners yet this week one person won 5b isk and a jump freighter in the same week on BONK. LMAO another EVE sponsored scam just like EVES pet corp GOONSWARM whos now running a recruitment scam with EVES blessing as they wont do a thing about it. LOVE EVE ...hate the double standards. |

I don't understand why so many people say blink is a scam, while I've put 7.5 billion into blink I have won alot like somewhere in the 10b, hard say exactly how much but my largest winnings was a Pirate/Navy pack where I won every pirate/navy ship in the game (except for the Revenant). I've won four promos, which are free and managed to win a PLEX on three occasions and recently won me an Archon, oh and the I won a second Navy Scorpion after lossing the first one that I won running missions, also got 2 rattlesnakes sitting in jita waiting for me and my alt to have the skills.
as ECHBlackthorn says: haters gonna hate
