Edited by: Xyliana on 10/05/2005 22:41:39 I am moving to that black hole in a few weeks. Central Pa actually and wanted to know if anyone else had the pleasure of such a fine state to live in Can't imagine it will be much different then London although that eight hour flight is a bit grooling.

Central PA gets a bad rap, but it has its good points, like the natural beauty. Give rothrock state forest an afternoon. That place is like a cathedral (humblingly beautiful, beautifully timeworn and massive), if a cathedral could also be a rainforest.
An east-coast, PA or even central-PA gathering would be interesting. Count me in.

Coudersport, PA baby!
We are the county seat and we have about 3k ppl here
If you've never been here... well your missing out. We have lots of trees, beer and trees. Did i mention the trees?
Yeah, we drink in the woods and often times will head out into the surrounding forests to do some drinking. Beer and trees are our major tourist attractions.
Our chief import is Yuengling and our chief export is logs.
Dont miss the lumberjack festival!! Cheap beer and pwning of trees, could you ask for more? (omg there are no women hear, avoid at ALL costs)

Let me know when and where. I'm in.
@petergriffen - I'm moving to the "only town" in PA, Bloomsburg. Sorry had to plug it... it's listed on the "welcome to the only "town" in PA" billboard as you drive in. I'm finding that everywhere else is a township so it might actually be the only town.

If no one has a BBQ before the end of August I will attempt to do one.
And yes Centralia is a strange place to see. To see smoke coming out of the ground, streets and sidewalks with no houses. Very strange but I drive thru it all the time now so its getting old. :) |

Edited by: Ti Kunna on 03/07/2007 23:29:42 Centralia Pennsylvania ...truth is stranger than fiction. A Pennsylvania community consumed by an underground mine fire.
If you were driving north on route 61 in the heart of the Anthracite coal region in Pennsylvania, you may have come across a detour of 61 at the top of a hill in a community called Ashland. Thinking nothing of it you would have followed the detour signs that took you around some possible road construction or a bridge being worked on. You're then reconnected with Rt. 61 again.
Many have followed this path in recent years with little knowledge of the on going story of this little detour and the town that no longer is really a town. If you had disregarded the detour signs and make the right that 61 north takes through Ashland your first clue that something isn't right would be the abrupt end to route 61 as it once was. You can read more about it at the following link: http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia.htm

Gimme about a month or so to plan something. I have a few things in mind. I just moved in my house though and am just now getting to the last week of painting (4 rooms doesn't sound like alot... till you realize the old owner said "F'it" and paint over the wallpaper...)
I've been inspired by the Euros.... their party has stories and sounds great.... Plus when I was living out in AZ... I went to Las Vegas and that was a blast! I figure there is a good date at the end of September (Bloomsburg Fair) that would have nightlife, it's a college atmosphere and I need some people to rake the yard....errr i mean enjoy the turning colors of the leaves...
Anyone want to collaborate with me on it? (Bloomsburg Fair Info) The fair is a week long. We could do the week OR do the two weekends. Depends on what people are interested in doing.
If no one is interested :-) That would work too.

I would suggest Friday Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd.
The Idea would be if you want to help plan this with me, you'd come Friday the 21st. Then we can get things ready by noon of the 22nd(so that folks could come and do a mingle.) Folks could bring sleeping bags, I'd suggest hotels / motels... but I'm guessing the prices will be a little jacked up given the popularity of this fair. The town has only 15,000 residents and last year 40,000 people arrived each day (Total was over half a million for the 3 days.)
Tentative Plans as I propse it: 21st Friday Night - "Staff" arrives and helps prepare. This doesn't have to be a huge number and if I've gotta do it alone I can.
22nd Saturday Noon - "Participants" Can start arriving and we can have munchies and places to setup computers if you want to make this a meet / LAN party. (I would suggest this.) The Bloomsburg Fair will be opening this day so if you want to bring significant others, or if you are interested in "fair" type activities, then that will be available. Otherwise gaming / mingling / movies on my TV will all be scheduled for the rest of the day /night.
Bloomsburg Paid Events on Saturday are : ôFigure 8 Raceö - Noon @ Grandstand - Price $12.00 ( I don't know what this is TBH) Josh Turner and Josh Gracin (Counrty / American Idol singers) @ 7:30 PM Track - Price $33.00 Grandstand - Price $28.00
23rd Sunday Morning - Sleep in / Church (if you don't go to church, that's ok, but information will be provided for those that do) 23rd Sunday Afternoon - Mingling / Gaming / Movies / Fairgrounding resumes. 23rd Sunday Night - Comedian @ Fairgrounds / Departures for those that must leave to get back to NYC or wherever they come from.
Bloomsburg Driving Distances just for comparison: 3 hours from NYC (i've driven it) 2.5 from Philadelphia (but please stay on the highways I was lost for 5 hours Monday trying to get home cuz i couldn't get on the 476 toll road to save my life.) 1.5 from Harrisburg 3.5 hours from Baltimore, MD (4 from Reston area Virginia)
Somethings I worry about, I don't mind housing anyone that comes, but I'm not rich so we'd have to have some kinda price to buy food or eat out every meal. There is a Giant a block away so I'd say we get food and bring them back to eat.
Let me know what you guys think. My idea is to invite anyonein the PA, MD, NYC areas to this if we can.

See, these are the simple things I don't think of, looking it up online.
That's a relatively painless ride for me. And I've been trying to find a way to meet a friend from Philly halfway. So yea, I'd come. And I'd be more than willing to help, I'll have free time then.
