CCP Explorer wrote:The record earlier tonight, local spotted at 2,411, has been confirmed as 2,400 even. The local count is very volatile and we use another method to determine the accurate count in a comparable manner and it says 2,400. The previous Jita record was 2,302 set on 1 Apr this year. Congratulations on making history, Jita pilots. Can we get "I was there!" buttons?

I would not say eve is dying, but it is peaking or at least appears to be slowing down according to this graph from MMODATA.NET
CCP so far has done an excellent job of maintaining their user base and I think if EVE is their main focus it will eventually gain more users.

To summarize the records: 9 Dec 2012 was an all-time high in Jita, 2,400 pilots (max population). Overall it was a 17 month high in New Eden, 54,832 (peak concurrent users). Erlendur S. Thorsteinsson | Software Director | EVE Online, CCP Games | Follow on: Twitter / Google+ |

Players logged on means very little, people logged on and actually playing is important. I very much doubt that there were more real players when the record was set in 2011, there were just a lot of bots banned since then and drone region gun-miners driven away. . |

I think this is more because Steam(tr) introduced EVE to a mayor publicum ... for 5 Euro for one month (only for new accounts). So basically Steam earns 5 Euro for a test-month of EVE. I think, and please prove me wrong, that in one month all is back to normal. Especialiy since most people will be pissed off by those scumbags who make a fun out of killing newbies in beginners ground. For me this is not a healthy breath taken but a terminal one and EVE is still dying :) |

One could argue that if the tools applied to market charts analysis can be applied to statistical charts, then those tools are nothing more than voodoo magic and the next logical step would be to make trading decision based on the pattern in chicken blood. |

Well both the sources of data (markets and players) come basically from market or game actors who express their opinion / belief about buying / selling / playing / not playing.
It's expecially intriguing because it's not the first time the concurrent players history has been used to predict the player base for the next months.
In a now long gone yet actual April 2011 thread, famous poster Akita T expressed the collective blame for EvE's dropping quality in hasty, unfinished, brainless development: "Alter bad new company direction, STOP rushing stuff out."
More as a pass time than a serious intention, basing on the concurrent players chart, young me I posted a chart based on QEN's official concurrent players history, correctly predicting the dramatic drop in player base coming in the next months. Notice how I was quite going against the "obvious knowledge" back at the time, since the game was hitting highest and highest peaks with no drop since release.
Then Incarna happened. And we know how it went. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Not very bright are you? Considering 2 years ago a expansion spiked at 61k, 51k is not impressive. And while the bounty system and killrights are great features, it's hard to find a suspect or a killright in highsec anymore that isn't a setup or a noob ship. Please post again in six months, let us know how it's going....lol.
