I think I'm paying for offline training.. And IF ppl do that training until getting to lvl 5 and not paying this game will finish itself fast..
'cos ppl are not paying.. putting skill to train to lvl 5 and come back in 2 months (not paying 1 month).. It isn't so hard to think ahead what skill would you pay..
I counted today's skill wrong.. I don't have anything going fot about 30mins or so before I get home from work..
sh*t happens.. It's my loss.. If it kills me, then it will..
****happy with this original system, good for CCP and me****

I got to jump in here, the "train to lv" thingy gets my vote as in the "RL" I some times have to go away for 1, 2 or 3 months at a time so do I canxel my subs or loose training time? I will not give my details to someone else so CCP you loose real money as I wil cancel my payment! So in simple we are both loosing out here, 1 I am not getting a good skill advance and 2 you don't get my money.
GTG my boss is back :)

As a compromise, what do you think of at least being able to manage skills from EVE-online web page with an active account only? This saves having to log into the game, and could possibly save on server lag as well. If this has already been suggested, then let me offer this as re-emphasis.
cheers and happy learning. |

I think it's a bad thing you have to plan your life around switching skills. Unexpected downtimes are bad too, especially when you need to go somewhere or need to go to bed. That said, having a skill continue to its next level once finished would be a good idea IMO.
The E-bay thing can easily be fixed if you stop accounts training while they're not being paid for. ------------------------------------------------------- "Do you really think that's air you're breathing?" |

Edited by: ThorondorUK on 16/05/2005 21:58:03 Reading this i can't believe how lazy you all are. You cry because you can't be bothered to change a skill manually i mean come on...and those who go away for months on end, then you don't get max skill training so what it happens, you are a minority and if it was passed as it has been mentioned before people would be able to make a living "playing" (though not playing) EVE. Get a grip and stop being so lazy.

I can see the korean/chinese crowd setting up accounts, training base skills and then when they get to the rank 6-8 they'd just cancel the account and train Battleship I-V, HAC I-V while not paying for it.
Come 8-10 months down the road they could sell that on Ebay and make big profit.
Besides, do we really need to dumb down EVERYTHING in this game? Can't people schedule skilltraining around their daily lives? 50k people have been doing just fine for the last 2 years.
Think it's probbly best to leave it as it is
When you stop paying for an account, you stop training skills. IE, they stop whatever skill you're training, mid point. Thus, this point is not valid.

Anyone who actually belives that they should be able to learn skills without even freaking logging in needs to go play Progress Quest instead of Eve.

Although in fear of going off topic (bear with me, mods), I want to ask : where do I come from?
Im going to assume you read my whole post and didn't like it at all, so you're pretending you never laid eyes on. Denial is easy. We all pick our truths, and Im not sure it matters at all as it seems none of them are true anyhow.
If I did care for you at all, I'd tell you that I hope you learn to argue and analyze in a mature manner. Good thing I don't have to keep you on my consciosness.

I can see more positives than negatives with this idea so I'm endorsing it with my 0.02 ISK
No matter what you do. Some people will find a way to exploit a situation (as CCP already knows). As to the EBay comments, perhaps CCP should consider what Sony is doing:
Permit account sales in a sponsored web site and take a percentage of the deal. Control the situation. Might as well cash in on something that is happening anyway.
Of course CCP could put them out of business by selling accounts they created with certain skills pre-trained if they believed there was a serious problem with accounts being on EBay. |

As for Ebay, hey could make it so if the account ever becomes inavtive, all skill training stops. Should not be too hard, since they can already tell if one of the characters on the account are training a skill. Just another flag.
And you don;t have to go all the way to making it a totally learn a new skill, just give players a small window. Make it a new learning skill, Intensive Learning. Every point into it, it will continue researching the skill for 1000 SP. So at level 5 of the new skill, you can get a 5k SP window, where if you don't make it to the computer, you don't lose the SP

Didn't read every single post, but it doesn't matter. I say no to any queueing, of any form (which this is just another kind of).
As has been mentioned its the only MMO that lets you gain "xp" while not actually playing, so the need to login and *do* something is reduced to switching a skill.
As for time management, its easy. You can use a pen/paper, or something like the Eve Character Manager. Then you just keep in mind that cancelling skill training does not remove the already accumulated SP in that skill.
Switch to a different skill when you need. When you're online for 3-5 hours on a Saturday afternoon, use that time to get all your little 15min skills up a level or two. Switch to something longer when you sleep/work and repeat.
And *anyone* who says they are getting up at night to change skills is insane. Certifiably in fact. Nuts. Bonkers. Stark raving mad. Go back to sleep and set a longer skill!

that already excists, as soon as your account is deacvtived, your training stops there and then!
*signed* with one exception, the skill is only told to overlap on the current skill. i.e skill lvl3 (7hrs) skill lvl4 (23hrs) you set lvl 3 skill, and log back 10 hours later.... skill lvl3 (complete) with 3 hr's of skill training missed) skill lvl4 (20hrs) the 3 hrs missed are put onto it as trained. after logged in, no skill training is on(like the normal completed skill, you have to restart training in a skill)
this should only work with the skill your currently training. and also the excess skill points should NEVER be able to complete the following lvl. i.e if you logg out for the next 3 days, lvl4 skill will never be completed, and it would stay at 5 minutes till complete at most.

The idea of queing an entire queue list isn't good. But I was also thinking about this, it would be very nice if the training would just go from lvl 2 to lvl 3 without you having to change it, this way we don't lose any trainingtime.
Please CCP think about this :)

Originally by: Malfus Troy I disagree. Eve is the only MMO to not need you to be there constantly as you gain XP (as it isnt earned through killing stuff) and therefore is already giving so much to us.
However, they made skills take so long to train, that even if you rarely get a chance to play, you will still get a good character in a normal massive-multiplayer game faster than you will in this game. CCP isn't really giving us anything with the training system.

In my opinion,
The ability to plan out your skill training and coordinate it with your other activities is the same thing as taking time to train up your tactical skill (not an eve skill!) before going out and getting into some pvp.
If you dont make the effort you dont get the rewards. Everyone is in the same boat with this system. Eve rewards those who play it more often in every single aspect of the game.
This aspect is already out of proprtion to that in that you can train just ONE skill while not online. So you are already getting benefits here from a slightly out of balance aspect of the game.
If you are too lazy to plan ahead with the character manager then you don't deserve to never lose training time!

I think skill queuing is not wise, as most above have said, it would be exploit galore. However i definetly think that the ability to change your skill in a web page should be allowed. Of course this would ONLY be allowed on the condition that the account was not suspended.
A lot of people go away etc, and the WWW is widely available virtually anywhere. However Eve is not (unfortunately). I see zero possibility of exploit here, and i believe this would appeal to any person who takes holidays, or is employed in the vicinity of a PC.
Pros:
* Able to change skills while away * Able to change skills while working * Lag reduction on those who log in for skill change * Less annoyed customers during extended d/t who complain about their not being able to change skills, especially at those horrible (rare)times when the servers die for up to a day at a time, or a weekend (easter).
Cons:
* Might take realism out of the game (Somehow) * Will make hardcore Eve players who have no outside life cry nerf * Maybe you people can think of more cons
Before replying remember that i have said skill changing through WWW should only be available on non-suspended accounts

if you do it webbased it won't take long for a char manager is created where you queue up you skill advancement plans and that trains'm for you, but it'll only work for skills you already have in you skilltree, but in any case it could be called a skill queue then and could be considered an exploit

thanks for more people posting their positive and negative replys.
for those that think ebay is the only reason for not letting this happen, even though for the same skill only and up to lvl 3 or 4 as well.
thats just your opinion and it is WISE.
so there for i'am updating the first post and posting the new idea as well.

21/05/05 the new suggestion.
well first of all up your (___(___) EBAY, we can't have this jsut because of your ignorance.. excuse me.
NEW IDEA:
same as before, BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT,,,,,, ONLY when your are logged on.
don't you just hate it when you hear skill Training complete when in the middle of doing something (PVe,PVP)
well the same skill should train what ever yo queued up as long as you haven't been docked for more than 20 minutes(average time to equip a BS).
and it should happen in space at any time, well as long as your not AFK for more than 20 minutes, Quote: well this is average toilet breack
.
therefore you should be able to prepare your training in any sort of way possible. up to 5 skills maybe.
it will be funny if people will flame for this 2ND thought but i would love to hear them.
this may not be polular with @CCP not because of EBAY but because of the programming, and the work that needs to be put into it.

Just say no to skill queueing.
This is a bad idea and it's been discussed earlier. Your idea isn't that much different from a skill queue.
We don't need it and I don't want it. If you can't plan you skill training you'll have to suffer the consequences.

I'm quite certain that I can live with the loss of 20 mins of skill training. I've probably lost 2-3 days altogether since I started.
Do that make me sad? No.
If it aint broke don't fix it.

anybody asked about how you feel. there are more than 2 or 3 posts on this thread saying no to skill queuing, but this is not what it is.
its basiclly carry on training the same skill as long as you are online, its not gonna be esxploited in anyway, well it can't if the programming for it is well written the first time.
and as i said i ll be surprised to see people flaming about it,
u just blew me away

Geez, you just don't get it do you? I wanna keep this short, or else I'll just say something I shouldn't and you'll be upsetting the mods with your not all that respect inducing replies that adds NOTHING to your arguments.
What you're asking for is that the game plays for you. EVE is well automated enough as it is, so why are you asking for more features to let you take a break? Not only is the 20-minute feature pointless (can't afford losing 20 minutes? wtf?), but it also a database performance clog of icky goo.
Im not saying you should plan your life to accomodate skill training, Im saying you should plan your skill training according to your life. Everyone does this except first week newbies : Set a longer skill when you're away, train the short skills when you're back home. Got an erratic lifestyle with no schedule? Too bad, but long skills is still the only way to assure you're always training something. Gone for a week? Set a long skill that will surely keep training for more than that.
There is no problem here. Yesterday, I was training Energy Pulse Weapons 3. It would have ended by now, but Im not at home, so I've set my skill training for Iron Will 5 before going to bed. When I get home I can fix the last 2 hours of Energy Pulse Weapons 3 and all will be a bliss. If I want to, I can continue training Energy Pulse Weapons 4 and even 5, I don't need a feature to do this for me. Even the most impulsive life does not justify to say it is hard to plan your training.
