A dislike button that adds a bounty to a player? I like the idea. I like it even better if the button somehow shows just how much of a bounty that player has incurred due to the dislikes of the post. Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821 |

Change the topic to "Would you like an 'Add Bounty' button in Eve gate ?" already. Forums still are not a bounty office.

We need an add bounty button so people can be punished for stupidity.
Or ****posting.
Or being awarded 1/10. (really, we need to set the bar higher)
And because I think it'll be funny as hell to have someone hit me with a bounty so people will go out of their way to eliminate my talos stockpile. |

Yes but in-game bounty should be distinguishable from forum bounties so that people know that the bounty has been placed as a result of something they have said on the forums. They see me trolling, they hating... |

I see an influx of crap forum alts attempting to wrack up bounties to be taken by their mains. Either way I think it'd be an entertaining feature. |

Probably.
But itd wind up being like mining. how many noobships do you need to recieve the 20% hull bounty to rake in that 100 mil payout?
Only mining is more profitable. |

As for the idea; yes. I would love to be able to put bounties on people from the forums.

Maybe I don't fully understand the bounty system but it still seems you could claim an alts bounty using friends or a separate account since lots of people do have both. |

Yes and ideally it should say on the post how many bounties have been placed using that button.
E.g.
"Character has recieved 1,000,000,000ISK in bounties for this post" "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared." - Niccolo Machiavelli |

You can claim the bounty with an alt. You can't do it profitably, though, since the bounty payout is a maximum of 20% of the cost of the ship that the bountied person lost.
If you're flying a 100mill ISK ship, and you blow it up with an alt; you get 20mill, and lose 100mill. That's a loss of 80mill. Not profitable.

Seleene wrote:Mara Rinn wrote:
Why are you not prepared to place a bounty on forum alts?
Seeing as how forum posts have often had ramifications in game anyway, I find the potential irony of a bad posting forum alt having the highest bounty in EVE to be quite amusing. It woudl be nice to at least be able to see the other characters attached to that account.
I would agree with the alt thing, putting a bounty on a bad posting alt is kid of silly, it's one of the reasons they use alts.
"Having" a bounty isn't really useful, if it's not possible to collect on it. Dumping huge amouts of isk into the bounty system and then having a bunch of it attached to characters that never actually log into the game seems like a gross waste of the entire bounty system.
EVE is supposed to be about consequences, and a bounty on a character that is never in space or in game, is not a consequence.
And while it sounds nice an all, the only real effect such a button would have is causing even more trolling. GD forums are bad enough as it is. It's not difficult to write down a name and just put the bounty on them when you log in next.
Not to mention, I made a post not long ago asking CCP FIX THE FORUM, so that my posts aren't wiped when I hit post, forcing me to reload my post from the saved draft, and then edit it so that it's not a giant wall of tex, because it takes me longer to write things out now.
It would be nice if you guys asked them to fix the forum first.
I also have to agree with the guy who mentioned the point of the CSM members. I think I'd rather you guys pushed CCP to putNEW content in the game, instead of asking them to worry about silly little forum buttons that will ultimately have no real in game impact as it'll just be people using the forums and bounty system to see who can be the biggest troll in EVE.

WAIT, nope... not going to stop!
While I support the idea, and would probably receive some bounties due to some of my posts, I really think this would simply do two things -
1. More people would post with alts to avoid bounties.
2. A number of people would post more insulting stuff to generate bounties.
If thats what you want on the forums, then go ahead.

Devious. This sounds like it could actually be the best way to get around the alts problem, so long as it didn't mean that the bounty-setter could tell who the other characters on the account were.
Of course, it'd encourage creating worthless alts to fill up the other two slots and therefore dilute the bounties, but that's better than encouraging people to create worthless alts and post with them.

While I like the general idea, it's most likely a bad idea, unless there are some precautions being taken: By code injection (some cross-site exploit, a browser add-on, proxy server or whatever) you could essentially forge a site that will drain all your money just by visiting it. Sure, CCP could probably detect something like that in their logs, etc., but it's still something to consider and the reason for me saying "no" - at least for now. There'd have to be some confirmation dialog that can't be clicked by JavaScript or anything similar.
Also, I agree with some posts above, people would just use anonymous alt characters even more (bad idea). Looking for more thoughts? Read http://aethlyn.blogspot.com/ or follow me on http://twitter.com/Aethlyn. |
