Signed. I dont really understand why people ( ) hate pirats as they play important part in the game, bring some adrenaline to haulers and mission runners life and participate in risk\reward balance.

Originally by: Princess Skye Why is it that whenever you get attacked by pirates they either just destroy your ship, pod or ransom you?
This is not piracy - it is pretty lame and unimaginative murder (the ransom bit excluded)
Why is it that none of you pirates send a message like - jettison your cargo and we will let you go?
Then you have someone in a similar ship to pick up the cargo and sell it to make a profit - this is what real piracy is about.
At the moment most so called 'pirates' are just murderers and should not use the term 'pirate' and then a lot of others who charge a price to enter their space are little more than mafia and should also not identify themselves as 'pirates' but as organised crime syndicates.
By the way I have posted in the wants forum that I am looking for corpses please check it out.

Besides all the good points made already. I wanted to point out that "Real Pirates" like umm I guess in the real world. Can actually board your ship and stab you with there daggers or tie you up. Note, you can't do this here. You have to either A) Ask or B) Blow up the ship. Now I don't really know why people kill you without ransoming. I guess they're just mean like that ;)

Well I don't hate pirates, think pirates is a needed part of EVE, you can dislike them yes but hate ??? nah... if you travel into low sec and get hit by pirates then no problem... what I do hate or dislike very much is gateganking... it drives people into high sec and does not do this game any good but that is an other discussion.

From an in-character perspective it's very possible to hate pirates, but when you say "you hate pirates" from an out-of-character perspective you're hating bits and bytes, essentially. ;)

I'm in a Corp that Hauls into low sec and 0.0 space, this is what we do, this is how we make ISK. If it wasn't for pirates and other nasty dudes I would not be able to feed my family, for I would be out of a job. I love the thrill of the hunt...usually the one being hunted...Priate's keep up the good work... . It reminds me of that cartoon with the Sheep dog and the Wolf..In the field enemies, after well almost friends...lol

I don't want people to misunderstand my initial post - I am not condemning piracy - I just think that Eve should make it more like real piracy as opposed to just killing other people - make it a little more fun for both the attacker and the victim. You enter lo-sec space and you know there is a risk (although I do think level 1 agent missions should avoid lo-sec space - at least give new players the chance to enter lo-sec in something capable of fighting back). From the replies I have a couple of suggestions
1) long range communication jammers (stop people speaking to other people or eve-mailing outside of a certain radius - ie only the pirates can communicate with them)- and a device to counter it
2) when a ship reaches half hull all of its modules and propulsion deactivate - hull recovers like shields to 3/4 hull but much much slower - this gives time for the pirate to make their demands
3) if a ship reaches half hull it can be boarded by the pirate and the player is ejected automatically in their pod
4) as per another post I put in suggestions - a boarded ship can be towed (as someone else suggested by a tug-ship)
5) if someone is podded near a station or gate in space above 0.1 security - the person doing the podding's ship automatically engages self-destruct sequence (caused by a device on the gates and stations) - but podding in belts, deadspace or at gates 0.1 and 0.0 is perfectly acceptable - also it is perfectly ok to destroy a ship at gates and stations (if you can get by the sentry guns)
6) a bomb that creates an electronic pulse that disables all the modules in ships in a 5km radius and prevents movement for a 5minute interval - and a device that protects against such a bomb
7) pods can be scooped to cargo holds - the player is then automatically asked to pay a set ransom based on the percentage of their assets/isk which if paid they are automatically delivered to the nearest station (to stop scamming) or if not paid for the victim - they are killed - for the pirate they have slaves to sell on the market
8) like in npc combat - if a player logs out their ship remains and they are automatically jettisoned into space as a pod - when they log back on if their pod has been scooped they have to complete negotiations - if their pod has not been scooped they appear at the same location in their pod - in such circumstances a player can't be podded while offline but when they come back online they can be podded if in a location where podding is permitted.
9) not related to piracy but needed - pvp competition arenas in deadspace - could be set up as CCP run gladiator arenas where each player pays an entry fee when they activate the gate - the winner takes the loot and the money and it does not affect security status. Maybe the best fights can be beamed on those gate tv screens??
