It's a newbie station.
My guess is that When they first devised the new player taining system, the asteroids were outside the stations.
Just a guess though.

hehe, good tactical choise as we there biggest enermy, there sweep caldri aside wile you all fight over the mining & gellente ship skills im about to put on your market so so expesive & some thorax & named basic miners for anyone who cant afford the skills.

Isn't that one of those asteroids that spawns when you enter the game as a new character , that you have to mine before you can continue the tutorial ?

Usually those spawn out in the middle of nowhere, though.

i've recently seen a veld roid sitting a few k from a gate -possibly in ryddijorn (i keep passing it but keep forgetting to make a pic). Its been there for at least a week now.

Would be great to have a ship hull made out of a veldspar astroid. The only thing that can take it down to structure would be a mining laser =P

i've seen lots of roids at certain gates in empire, never outside a station tho
