Step 1: Undock
Step 2: Click shiny.
Step 3: Check space diaper for mess as you lock.
Step 4: Fire your Civilian Laser.
Step 5: Profit.
Step 6: Get new diaper.
Or you know I could hold your hand or casually spell out each word slowly and pat you on the head for getting the color of that fire truck right....
(Also folks still working on the guide just been SUPER busy) |

Stealth bump. My Adobe program has been crashing so I have yet to add additional pages. However I'll be posting revised ship fittings and I have several additional pages lined up. |

Try a Thorax. Easy to train, not a pain to lose and it's a quick deadly little ship. Get the hang of that or a frig may be even more beneficial. Also don't fret cross training is perfectly normal.

Meh.
Guide seems helpful... to someone who can't find a dictionary. Once you remove the "definitions by webster", opinions, misplaced pirate thread story, empty fluff, and extraneous line feeds, there's not much "guide" to this guide. Seems more like a promo ad for piracy, which is fine, but not too helpful.
Suggestions? Add links. Add specifics. Stop assuming the reader can't find dictionary.com.
Love how the OP gets sarcastic and condescending when asked for "guidance" in his guide on how to actually DO something in Eve but never misses a chance to define common English for the reader. http://eveprincessbride.wordpress.com/ |

Look for corporations with recruitment advertisements, then check some of the members. A high join, high leave rate is a very bad sign. A high join stay rate, and active recruit channel is a better sign of not a scam pirate corp preying on new members.
Other than that, you can pm people, but don't trust anyone. Since you just want to be shown the ropes, train tackling skills and most corps will take you in as those are always needed, and if they do kill you, your only losing a Frig/dest so its not substantial. Mean while you enjoy the benefits of them teaching you proper tackle/camp/tracking skills that mean a lot to pirates/pvp. Lets be friends? |

The title is "beginner's guide" for a reason AND a work on progress in which i stated thus in the very first sentence. Did you happen to actually download the file and skim through at least the screens and such explaining the basic overview? Like I stated before it is a work in progress. Explaining what certain things are (to a new player) shouldn't be condescending and even the most basic of things can be overwhelming and confusing to a new player.
Instead of insulting me perhaps you'd like to contribute something? Maybe on D scan methods, probing, combat etc. There is so much more to cover as I've stated numerous times before. |

I already gave you advice, brosef, and now two free bumps. Take it or leave it. If you didn't want to hear people's opinion of your guide, why post it in the forums? http://eveprincessbride.wordpress.com/ |

And like I stated it's a work in progress. You gave me "links" and "specifics" but what are they? It's a very general overview at first which is what it is meant to be. In order to draw a reader in you need to give them some meat. Why Piracy? Why not just go do something else in Eve?
Motivation is what I was after in this beginning section. Once someone says "Hey! That looks fun!" They'll be more inclined to read further and thus those "links" and "specifics" you keep clamoring about will come into play. I can see your point about the definition of "guide" but if you look at it through say the eyes of a newer player you'd see the angle in which I approached the subject matter. |

Do you think you can put up fittings for a few frigate class ships? You put up cruisers and higher class fittings, but I'd like to start pirating in a frigate that I can replace easily enough when I make a mistake and it goes down in flames.
Either way, very interesting read, keep it up! |

Certainly! When I get to a computer where I can pull up my fittings I'll list a few. |

Okay, because I think a pirate guide is indeed a good idea, I'll throw a bit of effort into constructive suggestions. Your point is well made regarding the intro.
Looking at this guide from the point of view of a new player, the first thing I would suggest is adding some simple instructions for some of the more basic beginner forms of piracy, as you define it, IE broadly. Let's take a look at some of the more obvious topics:
PVP
Don't try to re-invent the wheel here. If they intend on participating in PVP they will need to learn the basics, like mechanics, T1 fittings, etc. All of this information is already available, and I suggest you link to some of the more well-known resources. Off the top of my head, Eve Uni's wiki pages on PVP fits and tactics and course recordings are a great resource.
http://failheap-challenge.com http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Uni_Tackle_and_EWar#T2_tackle_long_range_.28Interceptor.29
I'm sure others could suggest other links.
You could also have sub-sections for various common low-sp pirate activities, and how to be successful at them. I would suggest asking the community to contribute to each subsection, one at a time, in this thread. You need to add some activities, and provide detail, so that they can get started right away, and a simple example of each, so they can wrap their heads around it.
Can flipping Miner bumping for purposes of extortion Ninja looting/salvaging L4 missions Belt piracy and other solo and small gang (2-3 man) low-sp lowsec roaming tactics Suicide ganking Camping in high sec for public kill rights Scams, with details, and a simple scam explained
Each topic should be treated from the perspective of a new player, so easy to understand, low SP, low ISK, highly specific with examples. Yes it's hand-holding to a degree, but I believe that giving them a fool-proof roadmap to their first taste of illicit ISK or PVP adrenaline will hook them and they will figure out the rest on their own. Undocking with a naked newb ship and firing their civilian laser at someone who then blaps them back to a goo vat is not as fun as having a decent shot at -winning- an encounter. "Make a bunch of frigates and go blow them up" gets boring quickly unless you have a plan to actually win and a basic understanding of how you intend to accomplish that first victory. http://eveprincessbride.wordpress.com/ |
