I think the NON-PVP server would have more corp wars and ship losses. If one does not have to worry about being ganked by a PKer then they would go out to 0.0 and get owned by a belt rat. Not to mention corp wars would still be in effect.

It¦s not true that a pure pvp-server would die without carebears. Pvp-players would do exactly the ammount of pve-work that is nessesairy to have ships for pvp. The server would have a weaker market, yes. Maybe we would have loads of tech I frig-pilots and only 100-200 BS in the game - but it wouldnt be boring.
I try to imagine a 100% pvp-server with all 0.0 systems. It would be a brutal war for the ressources (agents, minerals, factory slots and so on). It would be a great server !!!
I really have to say that pvp-players dont need carebears. CCP needs them to make $$$, but pvp-players dont need a single carebear. I can run a factory if i need ammo or a ship. But i would only do the ammount of pve that is nessesairy to have enough ammo.

Needless to say I expected to get flamed and have not been disapointed. Now there is no doubt the majority of the designers agree with you that the game must have PvP because they tweak the rules all the time to appease the PvP players. But as some of you have mentioned there are other non PvP games out there which by the way pretty much all have much higher populations then EVE. I play EVE because its the only decent space sim out there not because its PvP. I lost my taste for PvP years ago in UO with gank squads that ran around jumping any solo player they could find and even if you killed them they had nothing on them but a few worthless items but odds were at 5+ to one you were the one who died not them. When EQ came out people left UO in droves to go to a non PvP game. I see 0.0 space people complaining that its all empty, because the only ones that come out there are those that are looking for trouble. The rest of the player population if they wish to play at all and aren't interested in PvP have to remain in secure space. Well if your bored in 0.0 space with no one to blow up its your own fault for createing the current situation. Enjoy.

/sarcasm
Eve does not aim to be mainstream, hence CCP probably couldnt care less for comparisons to EQ or whatever.
If you want to play without any risk of combat, play another game. That is the message. It's not a flame, nor is it me uttering my disgust for you or trying to get you out of the game. It simply is Eve's nature that players influence players, and that includes modes of influence that can inhibit your gameplay.
So, if that is unacceptable, move on, don't whine.
As for why 60% of the former 0.0 players left for empire being pvp combat. Let's just say we can disagree on that being the cause. _______________________________________________

I'm sorry but there you are dead wrong on that. I won't go to 0.0 because basically there is nothing there for me that I can't get in empire and until CCP fix that Empire is where I stay unless I get an offer to join an alliance/0.0 corp.
Peoples reluctance to go into 0.0 has nothing to do with the PvP for the most part. It's just a helluva lot easier to get what you want faster, safer and cheaper in an empire system running missions than it is, say, avoiding gate camps and travelling 20 jumps into 0.0 to mine that Arkanor your corp needs to build ships with.
I must also say that as a both a PvPer and a bit of a carebear at times (I'm only a bit furry honest!) that EVE with a what basically you are suggesting as a hardcore and sandbox server would be nothing. PVP in all it's forms fuels the player driven economy. Without pirates less ships would be lost to attrition causing a downturn in the market. Without miners there wouldn't be any resources to build said ships. Without researchers there wouldn't be as wide an access as there is to blueprint copies to allow small time manufacturers to get into the business.
EVE is a symbiotic game and the sooner people realise that the better. The game cannot exist without either party. So in closing EVE has worked like this for two years now, it's a winning formula so why change it just because YOU don't like it?

I was going to prophasy upon what Eve would be like if there were multiple servers some PvP and some PvE, however I cannot quite put what that would be like into words, so I'm not gonna. Suffice it to say that the game wouldn't be as good, and neither would the community (check the Wow boards for evidence of this latter assertion, contrast that with ATITD, a PvE one server game).
The real problem is that people complain unnecessarily about getting ganked. You've been ganked, I've been ganked, we all have been ganked. And those of you who haven't been ganked, your time is comming. However this is part of what you signed up for when you decided to pay your 15 bucks a month. Don't complain when Eve does what it says on the tin.

Understand what exactly? While I respect and have agreed with some of Lifewire's posts in the past, this particular bit you've quoted actually means nothing. The same thing can be said of the other side. People who prefer consentual PvP CERTAINLY do not need hardcore PvP types.
If the sever were split, and for the record I hope it never is, history suggests that the hardcore, all-0.0-systems, PvP server would in fact be a ghost town and possibly be enough of a drag on CCP's income that it would be shut down. In fact, quite the reverse of what Lifewire said is possible. The "carebear" (for lack of a better word) serve would have to generate enough income to support both servers hence the PvP server would indeed need the "carebears." ___________________

I'd rather think that none of em would generate enough income since both would suck compared to other games that do either the pve or the pvp part better then eve.
It's the intereacition and co-dependence that makes Eve special. Thinking that shhould be changed is equal to saying you are in the wrong game. _______________________________________________

Wasn't anyone paying attention? It's already happened. The PVP server is where you are when you go through a gate into 0.0 space. It's guarded by gank squads who don't want any more people in THEIR server. (then complain that there aren't more people on THEIR server)
The non-PVP server is empire space. You can fight corporate duels by paying a war fee, but if you don't want to fight you can just bail out of your corp and back into a noob corp.
And of course you've got low sec empire space as a transition zone where you can be ganked by people who're angry that they've done such a good job keeping you out of the PVP server.

I wouldnt mind a non PVP server.
Personnally im not one for PVP in MMORPG games, because it is never balanced. One person always has the advantage, be it from skils, modules or whatever.
But a non-PVP server would transform 0.0 space totally. I would no longer be a place for alliances to form, but a place that you and your friend occasionnaly go to do a missions that lasts for hours, kinda like a huge complex, with mega rewards at the end. ----------------------------------- My IBIS is knowed as "The ultimate power in the universe".

Bubba Fett is essentially right. High security space already is the PvE server and low sec is the PvP server. ThereÆs no need to separate them further.
Besides, Eve is a building game where you try to improve your character and increase your wealth.
Improving your character is little more than an exercise in time management. Having 20M+ skill points just means youÆve been playing a long time and thatÆs all. So, whatÆs the point?
Improving your wealth is fairly easy, just afk mine or run some missions. It might take a few months but affording the best ships and equipment in the game wouldnÆt take too long. So again, whatÆs the point?
There really isnÆt a point, until you add PvP.
With PvP there are two points to all of this. First you actually built yourself up while facing human opposition. Second, you can test your abilities against other people instead of computer AI.
PvP is what makes Eve. Some games (EQ) may do just fine without PvP but they have a different dynamic being designed from the ground up for group oriented PvE. Without a complete redesign Eve never can be a purely PvE game.
Maybe some of the ganking tactics need to be changed so that low security space is safer. Maybe Empire space should be more dangerous. Maybe the emphasis should be on corporate wars instead of random PvP. Maybe things are fine the way they areà
But thereÆs no way that Eve can ever work as a PvE game.

I'm in favor of making 0.5+ safe for even stupid, lazy carebears who are not at war, but not of eliminating pvp. Eve without pvp just would not work.

the arrogance of the populace of the PvP server would make it implode in a firey ball of egomania.
and the PvE server would eventually get bored and die as well when they realised that having the best possible setup was not neccisiary anymore.
In all seriousness split servers would kill eve, one server where both styles of gameplay are adressed and seen to is a nessesity, anything less will lead to eve's ultimate destruction. this here's mah sig': My Quote: "You can call me a carebear all you want, but your still an arrogant slimeball" |

Benefits of a single shard game like eve, with pvp:
1) Reputation matters. It doesn't even need to be in stats... And that helps your character development a lot, especially in RP. You're no longer a nameless character on one fo the zillion servers.
2) PvP is what thrives the game. No PvP means no risk/reward. No PvP means 0 market and economics management, except a permanent and rapid inflation. Shutting PvP down would be hazardous to both "griefers" and "carebears", to use that terminology.
3) Single server means higher population, which is a very good thing in EVE. Even with 100k players playing, that is, in the future when all space is opened and 0.0 empires are up and running, it'll be a blast. At the very least. That's how it feels like anyway..... Don't look at eve as it is right now in this situation!
Pretty much sums it up. I can think of more reasons, but they're all part of the 3 i mentioned already. So, flame away at wanting more servers than this one. You won't get any. Practically the 4th reason - the devs don't want to split the game up :)

As much as I dislike certain types of PVP I would have to say life would be less interesting on a NON PVP server and Eve would not be Eve without PVP and all the hassle and risk that brings.
They may as well make a single player version of Eve with cheat codes and games saves before NPC combat, etc.
Remember E&B, no PVP, no more E&B.
I guess it would cure lag with regards to fleet battles and you could type Ctrl followed by N E R F to make the NPC's blow up.

Its always amazing in these threads that its mostly the diehard Pvp players that complain that "carebears" whine, ruin the game, etc. The PvE players seem to actually play the game while the bored gate campers post in the forums.
The only people I feel sorry for is the forum moderators due to the incessant amount of posts.
As another poster said earlier- we already (in effect) have 2 servers- Empire and 0.0 whether the devs eventually publicly acknowledge that or not; I'm sure they realize it.
That's the beauty of Eve in that it allows anyone to play as they like. NWO and Cosmos will move some players around but most will stay on their side of the fence where they are already.
