This is where the EVE adage, "don't fly what you can't afford to lose" comes in. There's a nice big popup that appears when you attempt to enter lowsec, you should pay attention to these warnings in the future :)
In the meantime, please accept my condolences on your loss. Hopefully you can learn from this to become a better pilot!

Listen, stop considering yourself a rookie. I know you are new cause you just started, but there are no special privileges really. It's a game, it's pixels, you win some you lose some, not a big deal.
If you go a month with no implants you lose 15% = 4 days, guy who cancels for a month loses 30 days. People stop their subscription all the time; I've cancelled for years.
Enjoy the game and don't fret the character; it can get "messed up" in more ways than just a couple fewer skillpoints, and if you're afraid of losing its virginity you're going to keep yourself from experiencing some of the better parts of this game. Implants in your head = you try to avoid PVP, and that's where some of the fun is. |

I'm a newbie and dont know for sure how well this works, but I saw a tutorial from one of the forum members explaining on how to save your pod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1ly4qN5lxs - Try to do that when the future does not look so bright next time, I know I will, well, try... At least ;) |

A tip that i always remember for getting your pod out alive 99% of the time is when you know your going down i.e on 10% Armour or hull even just align to something then as soon as you come out your pod is mostly facing that way then in the moment of lag between ship going boom and them being able to lock you again you should be able to get away, I've only ever been caught in my pod a 2 times times using this measure.
wont work if your stuck in a warp bubble though lol

Welcome to EVE! Sorry for your loss of stuff. I know it bites. But see EVE for what it is: The risk is what makes the blood sing. Without the consequence the game would be nothing.
The irony is, you will actually GÇÿlearnGÇÖ a lot quicker now, than someone who stayed in hisec and kept his implant.
Practically though: Use loyalty points from missioning to replace it with 4x +3 implants (DonGÇÖt bother with charisma). And get a jump clone with no implants the next time you want to go to low or nul. And as our esteemed colleague already said : Stay aligned!
Whats the corp you can join for the day and buy a jump clone?

and it's not like the lost time/isk are recoverable... Hi!
Welcome to EVE. This isn't meant to be facetious we are truly glad you are in the game and trying things out.
As posted above, you should be able to petition for the boost implant and get it back.
But, apart from that, one of the hardest lessons in the game is that you can die at any time. Even in high security space it is possible that someone will try to kill you. So always be aware and play heads up in that regard.
I hope this experience doesn't drive you away from the game but rather gives you a target to get even with later - the person (or people) who attacked you and podded you. You can get even with them down the road. You could kill them back, you could find a more creative way to get them back, and, seriously, give it some thought. They were jerks so put it in the back of your mind to get them back some day - maybe even a year from now.
In the meantime, write the petition, and learn the niceties of the game mechanics with an eye (if you want) towards revenge.

If you play chess with a friend who's better than you, he will take your pieces and check-mate you, not because he hates you but because that's the game. If you play chess on one of the online chess sites, you can get into the novice ranked games, but people who are better than you will consider it fair game to take your pieces and check-mate you, to the best of their ability to do so.
Your ships and your character are pretty much chess pieces; everybody gets access to the same pieces, no one piece is special or unique, and the point is to pit pieces against each other and win encounters, ISK, whatever.
You want to stay away from the whole "heartbroken" part. Everything is just pieces/pixels, no need to get attached. |

1) Never fly something you can't afford to replace. 2) Never fly something you can't afford to replace. 3) When you lose something (and you will, some day), convo the person who got you and see if they're willing to give you advice on what you could do in the future to avoid the situation, or perhaps what you could do to come out on top. (Side note: If they decide to be a jerk "lolumadbro?" close the convo and just go on with your day. That said, there are a LOT of people in Eve who are more than willing to chat with someone they just blew up. It's a little known fact that even the hardest pirates have a place in their cold, black hearts for people looking for ways to make themselves a more difficult fight.) 4) Welcome to Eve Online! I generally run the cheaper implants for that very reason. I'm self-sustaining ISK wise, but that can change quickly if I start flying around with an additional 500mil ISK worth of gear. To me the difference between the 2 mil a pop implants and the 20+ mil a pop implants just isn't enough to justify the additional loss if I get podded. |

1. Train Informorph Psychology and get jump clones with EACS. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=8574 Use naked clones if you're doing something high-risk, at least until you can afford to replace the implants.
2. There are a number of PvP-oriented training corporations that will give you skills to reduce your risk of getting ganked, and give you some baby teeth. I liked OUCH, but there are others.
3. You'll lose ships anyway. Don't fly something you can't replace or do without. It's all about the ISK. Cheap, profitable, and sneaky is better than expensive and dead. |

Additionally, chances are you're going to lose a few weeks of training in the first half year to a year to:
-- Forgetting to click "apply" after inserting your skills -- Doing something else while fixing your queue, putting something with 3 hours in instead of 3 days like you thought it was at the end of the queue. -- buying implants, forgetting to put them in -- just being kind of apathetic about the whole thing at times
I'd also add that I've found that +3 implants take me essentially no time to replace, a single L4 mission or a FW plex or a couple of hours of exploring and I'm back again. And the time difference between +3 implants and +4/+5 is something that only gets significant over the course of years, at least for your primary stats since they're high anyway.
Basically, don't worry too much about it.
All that said, though, no, don't go into lowsec unless you're willing to lay both your ship and your pod on the line. When you leave the 1.0 to 0.8 systems, you're declaring yourself no longer a rookie, and while there are certainly people that will let a pod go just because they don't feel a need for killboard padding (I haven't podded anyone for years despite living in lowsec, null and w-space or some combination thereof for some time, though since I don't post to KBs unless my corp hassles me about it you'll have to take my word for it ).... the people that aren't going to let you off easy are completely legit. It's a PvP game, and PvP will happen. |

Looking at your killboard, I can say that this was not so much a case of "avoid lowsec", but more like "avoid Rancer". The reason you died is the same reason pirates love to camp that system. To the blind eye it looks the same as any other lowsec system, but it is in a prime location. It requires situational awareness to identify a system and add it to your avoid list - something that many people lack, both newbies and veterans alike.
As a side note, I do not see the implant you speak of on your lossmail. Are you sure you plugged it in? |

Low-sec can actually be a really safe place if you know how to fly through it. Telling people not to go there because it's dangerous, or hard, isn't entirely true.. it is, but it doesn't have to be. Just read up as much you can on how to fly "safer" in low/null sec. Odds are eventually you will get popped, but if you do some research, you reduce that chance. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rookie_Lowsec_Survival_Guide http://eve.wikia.com/wiki/Guides:Traveling_in_Low_Security

Cerebrals don't show on killmails AFAIK
And as for rancer...The worst place to be, specially for a new player with low skills and low knowledge about how to fly around in low-sec.

This is incorrect, and a myth that won't ever die when people repeat it (like this) without knowing the game mechanics.
Ship facing has exactly nothing to do with align time.
The facing of your ship before it's destroyed has nothing to do with your pod's direction.
Pod's instantly warp regardless of vector; due to their insane align stats.
You save your pod by hitting warp the second you're able to. Nothing else has any bearing on it at all. Having an overview tab that only shows warpable objects may make hitting one easier. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual, issued in the 1930's |

That isn't exactly correct. Pods have an align/warp time which is how people are able to catch them. That said, that time IS very short (~1 second, maybe), so it's not as common unless your opponent is prepared (or you're in a bubble, or lag...).
However, what Khanh said about the pod's facing IS true. The pod has no facing when your ship is destroyed. It's the same concept as coming through a stargate. While it looks like your (cloaked) ship is facing a specific direction, it actually doesn't have an alignment to anything until you start moving.
At speed 0 in this game, an object has no alignment to anything. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. GǪ" |

The fastest lock speed I have been able to theorycraft in recent times is a 0.9 second instacane, followed by a 1.1 second keres. Combine that with the slight delay after killing a ship, and there is no reason to ever lose a pod in lowsec after losing a ship unless the ship was destroyed by smartbombs or you lag out.
One thing that I always, always, always teach newbies is to set up and get comfortable with overviews. Newbies continue to venture into lowsec and continue to die. What many of these people do not understand is that EVE is not a run-and-gun, offense oriented game. Anybody can point and shoot. But can you survive? Defense-minded players are often much more successful.

I'm not sure the bolded part is a good idea, anymore. I think that'll actually cause UI lag due to how commands are queued since one of the recent expansions.
