I've used lotsa WCS if I'm going up against high numbers of enemy on unprepared ground but generally I don't fit any.
Lo-slots are too handy to waste.

Personally, I find nanofibers more useful than WCS. Who needs WCS when they never even get a chance to lock you? Plus, they make travelling just generally quicker.

Let me summerise.
You entered a space claimed by someone alone and you thought you may make it in a thorax combatfitted? Why again was your thorax combatfitted?
Sorry but anyone who will let a single thorax bypass their security, yeah for you it may be coward pirate gank, for other it may be just another day they patrol their space, than they should really think about how secure their space is.
I dont care if someone call me coward ganker. Sometimes i have the mission given my my "Agent" CEO, to patrol some system and kill any ships iam able to or to report back any ships bypassing me. The fact that you normaly wont be engaged by only one coward pirate ganker is that they dont wait therer for you single thorax, but for the possibility of a bigger gang to enter and engage their patrol.
If you are the defender you normaly dont have intel, if you will get attacked and if you will be, than with how many ships you have to count with or the size.
Thats why the coward pirate ganker dont move alone. If you are a soloplayer and want to explore 0.0 your own, than Sir you have to deal with the coward pirate ganker in mass.
Dont take such action personal, at the end of a day i just killed someone not blue, not somenone called "Derisor". Iam pretty sure, you will remember the guy or corp who killed you, but i can asure you most wont remember you.

Without instas, 0.0 would be ruled by gate campers.
"When someone scrambles"... is the mistake there.... If you come prepared, you don't get scrambled or shot at in the first place (ie. scout ahead, use the scanner etc.).
If you don't plan on coming prepared, then you need warp cores + instas. (incase you meet someone at a gate)
When you don't plan at all you need your wits, luck, and/or a good clone.

Being in 0.0 is very different to empire mainly because of gate campers - when I first joined an alliance it was right before the start of the Xetic/[5] war - I was in Xetic so as you can imagine we were up against some very experienced pvpers and gankers extraordinaire.
I quite quickly lost two BS to gank squads trying to solo fly them back from empire to Impass - I had a full loads of stabs and instas but was caught coming out of the gate and aligning by a group of interceptors and within a few seconds BS/HAC appeared.
Now at the time I was pretty p**sed off because to my mind it wasnt a fair fight, i.e. I got ganked - now I know that I was defeated by (i) my own stupidity for not having a scout ahead of me and (ii) their superior tactics - but it still wasnt a lot of fun for me as there was no way I was going to win that fight or anythnig like it - mind I am pretty sure they enjoyed it
Anyway, my point is this - since those early days (and I am only talking about 6 weeks ago or so) I have adapted to 0.0 and have not lost another ship (whilst travelling at least) despite having made the run from Impass to Empire many times.
The most important things are to not go alone, or if you do go alone, go in a very fast frigate which you are prepared to lose.
To be honest, and I think I have mentioned this in another thread, possibly of yours, there is nothing in 0.0 for you unless you are in a BS (preferably a Raven) to kill rat spawns or you have permission to be there so you can mine/do complexes in peace. In a cruiser you are going to get killed by the decent rat spawns and there is no point in mining as you would make more just grinding lvl 4 missions in empire.
If you were making instas, why bother - just buy a complete set from the forums.

Actually Im not sure it really was a mistake. It was pretty suicidal, ya. But a mistake? Hmm ... i wonder. ... what did I lose ? A ship and some modes. I also lost the implants but losing them is rather more of a blessing than a curse. Now I need not worry about loosing them anymore and I can go into 0.0 without so much trepidation.  I had avoided 0.0 because of my implants and perhaps that has been what has kept gameplay booring for me.
So you see that Im not so sure anything has been lost. I did learn what tactis they use and that has given me more motivation to try and organize some butt kicking myself. I just need to find people on when I play.
So you see I am far from a carebear.  Im more interested in forming gate camp *****ing squads now than doing missions and that is likely a positive move for my gameplay time.

No luck mate. You have to get in there to see what it's like though.
And sod not going there without permission. Go all over it without permission as no-one actually owns it and anyone who really thinks they do will be in constant fear of losing what they "own". You probably generate a lot of worry by your casual flying as they have no idea what you are up to.
Try taking as fast a frig as you can in and just fly around a bit. It's hilarious how you get attacked constantly but should be able to escape OK. Also the number of players that will come after you sometimes is a joke.
I've been told cruisers are a bad idea but I've been in with a mate, both of us in cruisers (blaster setup)and we ran into gate ganks but avoided them OK. Also almost killed an apoc (it escaped - bah) and got hunted down by about 8 players but they failed to get us. Not saying this was my skill, I was expecting to die but it never came - we did stick to the instas that we had though as it would indeed have been suicide without them.
Never killed anyone but it was dashed good fun.
A freind has had the same thing happen to him though. Gets all setup in a cruiser to jump out and see what 0.0 PvP is like only to die and get podded on the 1st jump in 
I hope you can get your revenge on the lying podder one day.

Sensor boosted raven piloted by "Kickass" ( dweeb of a name anyway) Locks my thorax in less than a second and then blows the ship up in another 2 seconds. Gotta love gate campers ... lol ... the same people that post on the forum that they should push more people into 0.0. Of course, gives them more targets. At any rate, he blows my rax ... fair enough ... but im ready for it and my pod warped away.
So Kickass says that I can come back through and jump back into empire giving his word he and his cronies wont kill. My fault, I was stupid enough to believe him. Gone are the days of trusting a person to their word I guess.
LOL ... well ... now I can have fun in corp wars without worrying about ruining implants so all is well that ends well. Kickass and his crew got a pod kill on a newbie frig and will probably be celebrating their famous fleet action victory all night so dont make any loud noises around them.
I, on the other hand have gotten over the dreaded first pod kill hump!!! Coolness ... fitting out a frig to tackle now. With any luck some of Milennium will run across him.
Post Scripts:
1) Stacking of sensor modules really has to go. Somehow I dont think the devs intended a battleship to be able to lock frigs in 2 seconds and a cruiser in less.
2) I was bummed .... no cut scene when killed? Anticlimatic. I need a T-Shirt that says "I got pod killed and they only gave me this lousy email."
3) Instas have to stay or gate campers rule the galaxy.
4) If "Kickass" tells you water is wet, check for yourself. Pirates I dont mind. Bloody liars are worthless pieces of trash.
5) I didnt log ... like some other cwards.
6) I checked the map for pod kills and ship kills before jumping in so dont lay that tired old line on me. Im not *****ing ... just laughing mostly. The only thing that ****es me off is liars and broken game mechanics that are basically the equivalent of sanctioned exploits.
Let the flames roll in !!!!!

Instas make it so a player with the iq of a glass of water can come and go from 0.0 with just about 5 seconds of thought. Just stop whining and play eve,,,,

Actually, I keep thinking that without instas, campers might have a chance to stop people at gates and ransom them instead of just blowing them up with ships fit for fast locking and maximum damage.
Campers are oftenly not pirates, they are often there to destroy and dissuade, not ransom.

This is true. On the other hand, you're the one who started this thread about your experience.
