If anyone of you have done a rogue drone hive strain mother, the end item at the end of a 10/10, then you know what im talking about
The strain mother has a very tough actively repping tank. ive read every 10seconds, 40% chance at 5000 hp gain. Its a real real beast, it took 2300 dps, about half hour to kill earlier today, 2900 dps for another one, about 12 minutes.
When your facing something that has a tough tough tank and you only eat into its armor or hull after reaching a certain low point in shield or armor, would it be beneficial to ungroup your guns. My macro example, would be if i were firing large artillery. One shot every 14 seconds, all the damage i inflicted would already be healed up by the time i fired again. The micro example would be, right now i have 7 turrets all firing at once, inflicting a large volley damage, but my window to inflict damage on the armor or hull is lower, cause i have to wait to fire another volley. If i had 7 individual turrets firing, i might hit 2,3,4,5 times while into the low region of shield or armor to inflict damage on the lower end.
If anyone else has a lot of experience with this please let me know.

The rate at which damage is applied would be unchanged so in real terms there's no advantage in swapping your groups. The difference would only be that the enemy would stay at roughly the same level of hp rather than going up and down. |

Grouped guns would result in a faster kill due to the 'lag' time at the beginning of the encounter where you're waiting to stagger your guns, some are firing, others are not. Damage applied per second once all the guns are firing would remain unchanged. The quickest kill would depend on how quickly you could fire your first shot. |

unless your volley damage damage is bigger than the HP of the lank layer you enemy is tanking, dps is the only thing that matters.

I would say it's easier to burst through a tank with grouped guns, if you can get through some of the tank each time it will add up to a kill. |

This is incorrect.

No personnal experience with 10/10 complexes, but back in the day, Rachen Mysuna in the Vengeance mission had a tank kinda like that, and indeed ungrouping your launchers (on a Raven) and timing them allowed you to have a semi-constant stream of damage that could beat his/her shield boosting.
Now, with better skills and T2 Fury Cruises, I swat that particular NPC with 7 volleys at the max, but I guess the principle is still sound ... doing less damage per hit, but having constant hits could work.
Since I don't do low/null sec, you'll have to test that theory yourself, tough. |

Ungrouped guns work better. a simpler example is a mobile bubble which regens shield quite fast. you will kill it much faster with ungrouped guns. |

now were just getting silly,
the idea was how to ensure you dont miss your small window between massive reps, to get as much dps as possible to seep into the armor or hull. some people agree, some people who have never had a situation like that, talk out of their ass.
