I am considering fitting Dual 150mm Carbides on my Ferox to do some lower level Combat missions against mostly frigates and those dam drones. But comparing the stats against single 150mm's and 200mm there doesn't seem to be any advantage. Plus you are stuck using Medium charges.
Do they actually shoot two rounds at once? Basically I want a way to hit small fast targets at close range while taking advantage of the Ferox's built in Medium Hybrid bonus.

yer theres a differnce, take in to account the dmg of the medium ammos youll see its greater than the smaller ammo so by useing it your getting more dmg..

medium ammo does 2x the damage of small ammo, making the dual 150mm Railgun about 18% more damaging (excluding skill bonuses etc.), that coupled with the increase in range, due to ship bonus make it better than a small 150mm Railgun. However if you want to hit small fast targets at close range you'd be better of with blasters, exceptionall damage on the medium blasters compared to the small 150mm railguns. ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

but you fail to see that dual 150s have a lower mod than single 150s. The dual type railguns are borderline useless, dont use them you are only gimping yourself pritty much, they have a lot heavier fittings than their single counterparts with very minimal (at best) bonuses. They do hold lots of ammo tho!

Duals have their uses, but their name kind of does not suit them. They do not use the same ammo (x2), and they do not really have any relation to the original stats / fitting requirements of the single variety...
They are often quite effective on Grid-challenged ships like the Vexor and the Dominix. -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

Thanks for the info, looks like I will be sticking with my 200mm rails for now and maybe fitting a pair of 75mm Gattlings for drone missions.

usually they have the best tracking which matters a lot
dual 250 s on a mega or domi will hit frigates as easily as single 250 s but get all the ship bonusses as additional benefit for example.

I used to do pretty good hunting .2 systems in a thorax with 5 dual 150s. Advantages over a single 250 or 200 are: Much lower powergrid req's so you can replace the reactor controls with damage mods. Better tracking. Higher rate of fire. Hold more ammo so less combat reloads.
Disadvantages compared to 250: Lower damage modifier Shorter range
Advantages compared to frigate 150's: Ammo does more damage offsetting the lower damage modifier. Guns get a bonus on cruisers or BC's Longer range. Hold more ammo so less combat reloads.
Disadvantages compared to frigate 150's: Take more power. Slower tracking.
Also, because dual 150's are less popular, you can get named guns for reasonable prices. Add the extra damage modifier of these to the addition low slot damage modules you'll be able to run and the ship bonus you get an you're far more effective with dual 150's than frigate 150's.
Of course all this assumes your ship is primarly a gunboat. It you use mostly missles then you probably won't be using hybrid damage mods and don't have any powergrid problems. In that case your choices would be 150 rails for closer range frigates or 250 rails for long range sniping.
