Heres an idea...
Create a new ship class for use with Jump Drive tech. This ship is a large hull but weak in terms of armour and sheilds, the large hull is to accomidate a jump point projection unit.
With this ship it could create a jump point that would allow BS's, Crusiers and frigates to jump with the ship to another system, allowing for fleet movement but without sacraficing a slot for a jump drive.
The jump point should only be active for say 20-30 seconds before it collapses and the Jumnp ship automatically jumps once the worm hole is created. Other ships should be able to right click on the worm hole and jump as long as it is active, similar to a normal gate at the moment.
This would allow raiding cruiser and frigate fleets to exist using this jump ship to move them quickly in to position.
As a down side, and as part of the JumpDrive tech, there should be a recharage time which this ship could have say a 2% reduction per level before it can re-open a jump point. Also jump points should be randomly in to the selected system but visable on the normal scanner as a space annomaly. Distance's between systems should have a fuel penalty or maybe even a time delay on the jump point before it could be used.
Jump point would appear but because system is say normally 5 jumps it takes the jump ship 5 minutes to stabalise the worm hole, the worm hole would be visible at both ends as mentioned above on the scanner during this time, once stable the worm stays for 30 seconds then collapses.
This would allow for ships in the target system to see and react rather than just ending up as a surprise gank fest.
Well my 2 isk for the time being...

Great .. then we can just reduce eve to one jump and pay off our titans by playing stargate for cash ?
Teleports kill games. <== note the period.
Jump drives are a VERY bad idea in my opinion. I would rather see the ability for player to construct stargates. --------- The words "Exciting" and "Safe" are mutually exclusive; pick one. |

I think the jump is going to be a bit expensive...or actual its going to cost a lot I think..
lets say..2mil pr jump distance..so..10 jumps could be 20mil..I called that expensive...
at least with my wallet size.

I think your doing a chicken little dance, jump drives will start out heavly nerfed so please do not fear teh sun you may like having a tan compared to yelling at cave drawings that the sky is falling

Jump drives should merely be an alternative to gates but you still have to use the jump routes that exist now. The only advantage of a jump drive should be that they let you jump to two systems that are connected on the map but that don't actually have gates.

I agree that my first thought on jump drives is that they will ruin the game.
But then I guessed that perhaps jumpdrives were just a storyline device because titans were so big. So I supposed that a titan would have to pull up to a regular gate, lets suppose within 60km, and then use the gate's "signal" to jump drive to the next system the gate was connected to.
But I just had an idea based on a game tactic I once saw used in another mmorpg. Create an "endpoint" device of medium size, so that it must be carried as cargo by a cruiser or larger ship, that must be taken to the final destination point.
So perhaps you load a titan up with some of these devices. It then uses a special method to eject them into space. So now they are linked to this titan. A couple of cruisers then grab up one device each and start a run for the agreed upon destination. If and when one makes it to the destination, it is ejected, anchored, and a jump wormhole can then be created by the titan to it.
That way no one can just magically appear inside another alliances territory. They have to get at least one ship inside with one of these wormhole devices.
But how long should they last? Perhaps they only stay active for 1 minute before going dormant. At that point it would require the massive energies of a titan (perhaps with the appropriate mod) close by the endpoint device to reopen it. You could even make the energy drain so big that the titan would become temporarily vulnerable everytime it chose to perform this action.

I'd like to further expand on my wormhole device idea.
I just found a problem with my idea. For a wormhole to be reusable it would also require a wormhole device (WHD) anchored at the originating location as well (lets call these WHDBegin). So perhaps this first WHD is ejected and anchored by the titan. Then some method is used to connect endpoint WHD's (WHDEnd)to the first one. Perhaps they need to be anchored within 5km of the WHDBegin to link to it. Then the various WHDEnd's could be unanchored, loaded into ships, and taken to a destination point. The first WHDE anchored would become the endpoint and the rest would reset. A WHD that had been reset, or never used before, would refuse to anchor in the first place.
Because the wormhole is an anchored object, it could perhaps be easily destroyed. So if a group wished to use it for an eventual escape it would need to be protected.
Also, it would require the originating titan at the endpoint, and with enough cap, to reactivate it. I suppose if an alliance was big enough and clever it could have multiple titans, each with their own WHDBegin anchored. When the first wormhole opened, the other titans could send thru cruisers of their own to quickly anchor their own separate WHDEnd devices. This would create a measure of insurance in favor of a safe withdrawal in case one of the WHDEnd devices was destroyed by an enemy.

I don't have a problem with jump drives. I just hope they use allot of power grid, say a a titan has a 100,000 power grid base. The Jump drive should use 125,000 power grid. You'd have to turn all your devices off to bring the jump drive online. Jump drive distance should be capacitor based just like warp drive. That way it would take 30 mins + to jump. Advantages would be a titans could skip past 15 jumps but it would take another 15-30 minutes to do another jump. Also after each activation of the jump drive, it puts itself off line.
Now player built stargates could be an interesting idea.
